    I'm old enough to have witnessed the first 300 in the 1/4 mile (This was on TV), amazing to see them break 300 in the 1/8

    Absolutely awesome effort to Salinas, this is what I love about racing, constantly pushing to go faster. Now the race is on for the first 340mph pass at 1000ft.

    That was an incredible run by Mike Salinas! That's too bad for the struggles in the cooler sessions! Hopefully Jim O gets that figured out because running good in those cooler sessions would greatly help to qualify in the top half of the field and be able to run a lower qualified car in the first round and help win more first rounds. Wishing you the best!

    That 3rd pass, it bounced up off the tire, but they were hooked up till they rebounded straight up in the air. Then blew em off.

    I hope Jim O. figures out the cold track tire shake issue very soon. My own thought is that it may be clutch flow timing but I'm not a dragster guy.

    This is such a great channel Clay on RUclips. Seems like I just can't wait to see you on RUclips. It does brighten up everybody's day, and everybody does say that. People need people like you to reassure them and think positive about life in general we love drag racing and we love you clay. Thank you for being so positive and inspiring people. I found out I have some kind of a blood disorder kind of like cancer, and when I watch your channel, it just brightens my day. So thank you clay.

    I remember when they were trying to make it to 200 miles an hour they didn’t think they could do it or it could be done it’s amazing how far y’all pushed it I love your videos I like the maroon truck and dentally videos and the dragracing

    Clay, one thing I notice is that your burnouts are shorter than others. Perhaps on a hot track this doesn’t matter but might on a colder track?

    This just means they will cry that the cars are too fast for 1000' ft now just like they did when they stopped running the 1/4 pretty soon yall will only be running to the 330' .

    A question for the drag racing mathematicians out there... If a car runs a 300mph eighth mile, what would the theoretical ET and speed be at 1320 feet? (that's if 1320' was still a thing). I'm just curious.

    @20:02 Clay mentions the 'bounty' for a 300mph 1/8th mile lap,, that bounty is $30,000.

    Amazing a car pushing that much raw power. Massive amounts of fuel and air. Tons of downforce. 12K HP. And adding 3 grams to the fingers is the difference.

    It’s hard to believe that I haven’t been this excited about drag racing. Last time it was the King Kenny Bernstein double dipping in top fuel and funny car. Budweiser was the name that stood for a proud America and a great sponsor. As I understand, it’s even louder today. I remember getting a load of interstate batteries there in Bristol. The first time I heard thunder valley wake up, I had no clue what it was. It got loud and one or two times I could barely feel it.

    Indeed, those clutch application/management issues are very real. Hopefully, everyone will consider some testing because it seems like there’s an opportunity that’s knocking at the door. It seems that everyone feels that you’re very close to getting over that hump.

    Stupid, but a couple more lbs of rear tire pressure on the cold track may help it get through that shake issue and help the clutch setup you are running. Just my 2 cents. Running over the bottom wrinkles in the short burnout. They are not heating up the same, to increase the pressure the same. But run #2 was better. Especially if the clutch wear was reduced.
    Yes, I stayed at a Holiday Inn recently in my first test session back on a quarter mile track at Vegas.

    I love how no matter how bad the run goes,you never beat yourself or your team up over it. All you do is say ( let's try again) and keep pushing. If only more people was built the way a good ole southern boy like yourself is the world would be a much different place.

    Clay, I remember not long ago funny car teams were playing header games by changing the angle and slopes of the headers for better downforce and aerodynamics and it helped. Do dragsters change headers for any reason or are you mandated to run specific headers and what are the requirements?

    Mikes record run looked fast on tv. This has been a real enjoyable season. More tribute cars in 2024. The broadcasts have been so awesome. Slow motion camera shots are best in motorsports. Your car clay is my favorite has a classic look love it.

      The cars are limited as to what rear gear they can run and I'm pretty sure max RPM too. This gives an absolute limit to top speed.

    good thing top fuel doesn't run 1320 feet anymore, 1000ft really slowed the cars down.

    I really enjoy your channel, now a question I haven't been to a drag strip since the moved the engines behind the driver.
    I noticed that on occasion a crew member moves along the right side ahead of you opens a little door what's going on been a fan for a while at 75 years young

      We don’t do that other teams do. They are pushing a button to charge the air system for the clutch.

    300 in 1/8...wow...surprised it was not 340 in the 1/4.
    I think it is a matter of time until the 1000 foot race is changed to be the 1/8 mile race
    and leave more room to slow down.

    How loud is the car when sitting in it compared to when you are in stands or on standing starting line ? … what ear plus do you use ? Did they ever figure out what happened to mikes tire at maple grove when it blew out ?

      That’s a lot of questions. I wear custom molded ear plugs. Not as loud setting in the car. It was Doug Kalitta that blew a tire.
