In my opinion, that scene and the ending swing of Spider-Man 2 are the most emotionally satisfying web-swinging scenes in all the movies. The one at the end of NWH is pretty good, too.
Fun Fact: In the scene where Kingpin sees Vanessa and Richard in the train, in one small instance Richard looks like a young Matt Murdock with the red glasses.
This version of green goblin looks wise is based off of the ultimate green goblins where instead of turning into a roided mad man they turn into a roided sometimes fire breathing giant green goblin
Even though going into the movie knowing the "Canon Event" for Miles, still hits so hard when Uncle Aaron gets shot even i cried my first time watching it. Then hes gotta go right back into saving the world like damn let a kid breathe 😢
I love how this movie embraces animation so much. It completely acknowledges that it's not restricted by budget like live-action and therefore gets creative as hell with all the shots, visuals and little details.
Absolute credit to Daniel Pemberton doing an incredible job on the soundtrack - the sampling, the turntablism, the use of OG analogue kits, making it fresh without losing the rawness, making it epic without reverting to typical Marvel audio tropes is nothing short of a miracle. He did even better with across the spiderverse bringing in new genres and celebrating them, cannot wait to hear what he does with the next film.
Its gonna be insane with him in dimesion 42 i can feel it. Im also excited for the next soundtrack, the entirety of the ATSV one is on my playlist to this day
Fun fact: at the beginning of the movie where Spiderman says "I'm the only one," there are six birds that fly behind him, one for each other Spiderman.
Another Fun Fact: The maneuver Miles uses to get to the button while Peter B. Parker and Gwen watch is the same maneuver Miles saw Peter Parker pull at the beginning of the movie when he originally tried to shut down the collider.
Omg lesss goo!!! This is in my top 3 animated movies of all time, as an artist, this movie is just beautiful from the designs for characters down to the way they chose to animate them and especially the cinematography it’s just *amazing* . ML James
Always appreciate it when you throw love to the artists who make animated films like this happen!! It takes SO many people, SO much time, and as you said a LOT of money (most of which unfortunately stays out the hands of the artists themselves). This film influenced the animation industry in such a cool way with its approach to 2d/3d blending and stylization. It’s rough out there for us rn, but hopefully with continued love and support for innovative films like this, animation can make it through this tough patch. You can’t make art like this without people!! Creative, talented, innovative people 😌✨
I still love how the What's Up Danger scene starts. The Prowler alarm was Uncle Aaron's until he passed it on to Miles, which is why his theme song starts off with that. Because it's his now, he makes it his own.
Spidey is in the top tier of strength among marvel heros. There was a run recently-ish where Doc Ock took over Pete's body. Went to punch Scorpion and literally tore his jaw off. Had a bit of a Moment realizing how badly Pete could've whupped his ass at ANY TIME in the past however-many years, and how much self-control he'd ALWAYS been exhibiting.

But other shorts he's made fully flesh out his animation style and he won an oscar in animation in 2022 for "The Windshield Wiper", and did an episode for Love Death and Robots "The Witness".

It didn't make the YT cut (so if you wanna see it, patreon on up), but the part where Doc Ock says "My friends call me Liv" and later Aunt May calls her Liv just kills me every time, especially since in the original comics, there was a storyline where Octavius married Aunt May. Probably my favourite moment in this collection of incredible moments is when Miles reappears to punch Doc Ock, Gwen and Pete both say “Miles!” But Doc Ock says “Spider-Man!?” It’s like the ultimate (no pun intended) confirmation of his transition into the full Superhero.
The score by Daniel Pemberton I think gets a little overshadowed with how stellar the animation is but it's an incredible mix of styles to fit each character and drive home the story
I have a question for you James. In the beginning of the video, when you ask how we are doing and then come back with how rude we are for not asking how you are back, do you think you subconsciously thought of that from watching so much Mr Robot recently in how he always talks directly to the audience?
10:14 Purely based on the design(it looks like the green goblin from the Ultimate universe) and the fact its a Miles based story(Miles in the comics came from the Ultimate universe and then later found his way in the main 616 universe) .Part of this more demonlike redesign is the fact this Goblin has fire powers and doesn't have the glider and gadgets.Other than that his powers are the basic more enchached strength, durability, intelligence e.t.c.His powers come from the OZ compound which was basically a failed attempt to recreate the supersoldier serum which is also what the spider that bit Pete in the Ultimate Universe was exposed to.
A cool factoid: When Miles is learning his abilities he's animated at a very low frame rate. Meanwhile, Peter and all the others are animated at full 60fps (48? i forget exactly). As Miles gets better, his frame rate is stepped up until finally he's the same as the others. The result is very subtle but makes him appear more choppy and clumsy while the others are nice and smooth. Very cool technique.

I reckon that both CG animation and games are now done with realism and are now delving into style which I reckon is a natural progression, like every visual artist even learns how to make realism before they start experimenting with styles like Picasso and Cubism, TNMT is another classic example of style over realism and reverting back to that child like art which is the mindset that invented cubism.
