My dad's uncle has his 1983 Turbo Coupe Manual Transmission Ford Thunderbird which he got brand new. It possesses only 14,000 miles & still got the original tires.
Watched it comin' up Winslow Down South Park Boulevard Yeah, it was looking good from tail to hood With great big fins and painted steel Man, it looked just like the Batmobile With my old man behind the wheel Well you could hardly even see him In all of that chrome The man with the plan and the pocket comb But every night, it carried him home And I could hear him sayin' "Don't you gimme no Buick Son you must take my word If there's a God in Heaven He's got a silver Thunderbird You can keep your Eldorados And the foreign car's absurd Me, I wanna go down In a silver Thunderbird" He got up every mornin' while I was still asleep I remember the sound of him shufflin' around Right before the crack of dawn Is when I heard him turn the motor on But when I got up they were gone Down the road in the rain and snow The man and his machine would go Oh, the secrets that old car would know Sometimes I hear him sayin' "Don't you gimme no Buick Son, you must take my word If there's a God in Heaven He's got a silver Thunderbird You can keep your Eldorados And the foreign car's absurd Me I wanna go down In a silver Thunderbird" Down the road in the rain and snow The man and his machine would go Oh, the secrets that old car would know I still hear him sayin' "Don't you gimme no Buick Son you must take my word If there's a God up in Heaven He's got a silver Thunderbird You can keep your Eldorados And the foreign car's absurd Me I wanna go down In a silver Thunderbird Me I wanna go down In a silver Thunderbird"..........................ruclips.net/video/t_BGv0bVfA0/видео.html
With acceleration just barely better than the NA V8 and fuel milage just slightly better than the V6 automatic one wonders what the could have done by putting the blower and 5spd on the 6.
They drive better than the numbers suggest, and the turbo had production variances. I think I had a better sorted example, judging by conflicting accounts. The super coupe in 1989 would agree with your line of thought.
If ford had turboed the 3.8 the Thunderbird would have been Ford's Grand National. Would have been even better than the GN if Ford offered a 5-Speed manual in addition to an automatic. But damn. Back then Ford transmissions were weak sauce
I had a 1985 Cougar XR-7 turbo automatic.. Was fun
What a Handsome design!! This thing looks as good today as it did so many years ago!! Just like the ageless one John!! Long live the king 👑
A little over dramatic, wouldn’t you say? Keep clowning

If you know the reference, you know. lol
These were the best driving cars. They were just silky smooth
Had an 84 Cougar, nat asp V6.
Watched it comin' up Winslow
Down South Park Boulevard
Yeah, it was looking good from tail to hood
With great big fins and painted steel
Man, it looked just like the Batmobile
With my old man behind the wheel
Well you could hardly even see him
In all of that chrome
The man with the plan and the pocket comb
But every night, it carried him home
And I could hear him sayin'
"Don't you gimme no Buick
Son you must take my word
If there's a God in Heaven
He's got a silver Thunderbird
You can keep your Eldorados
And the foreign car's absurd
Me, I wanna go down
In a silver Thunderbird"
He got up every mornin' while I was still asleep
I remember the sound of him shufflin' around
Right before the crack of dawn
Is when I heard him turn the motor on
But when I got up they were gone
Down the road in the rain and snow
The man and his machine would go
Oh, the secrets that old car would know
Sometimes I hear him sayin'
"Don't you gimme no Buick
Son, you must take my word
If there's a God in Heaven
He's got a silver Thunderbird
You can keep your Eldorados
And the foreign car's absurd
Me I wanna go down
In a silver Thunderbird"
Down the road in the rain and snow
The man and his machine would go
Oh, the secrets that old car would know
I still hear him sayin'
"Don't you gimme no Buick
Son you must take my word
If there's a God up in Heaven
He's got a silver Thunderbird
You can keep your Eldorados
And the foreign car's absurd
Me I wanna go down
In a silver Thunderbird
Me I wanna go down
In a silver Thunderbird"..........................ruclips.net/video/t_BGv0bVfA0/видео.html
