    A thought on the tax added at the till and why the displayed price does not include the tax. I think you had a good thought in that each company can display their price of the item which can help people make purchasing decisions. As the taxes vary from province to province the final price will be different depending on which province you are in. Many provinces in Canada have a provincial sales tax, PST, and then there is the federal sales tax, GST and these are added together to get the final price for the item you are purchasing, if it is something that is taxable. Now, Alberta has no provincial sales tax at this time so only the GST is charged in that province.

    • @robertbreedon9137

      Here in Ontario we have the HST which is 13% I think. HST is the GST & PST combined so if a pair of pants is 29.99 on the tag at checkout that 13% is added to your bill. When the GST came out it was and still is very unpopular even funerals are subject to GST so they get you coming and going. We Canadian's can thank Mr. Wilson and Mulroney for this tax. No federal government will ever scrap the GST it is a cash cow for them.

    The tax isn't added to the displayed price because the government didn't want people to think they were trying to hide it from them.

    If you go to northern Canada in the summer the sun is up almost 24 hours. In the winter it is the opposite, almost 24 hours darkness. It is because of the location. You should research this. Also it is becoming more expensive to build houses. If you want a brick, cement or other type of house you will have to research that also. Different provinces and territories have different sales taxes. In Alberta we pay GST but we do not have to pay PST.

    Two weeks after one year employment is the law and that is all they have to ever give you. The company I work for gives me 5 weeks paid holidays but that is because I am in a union and it is our collective agreement. Next year goes to 6 weeks till I retire in 6 years. Mind you I am in Ontario it could be different in other Provinces of Canada. Now that being said it depends on the company you work for they may give you more holidays as your time with them increase my friend gets 4 weeks and he has been there for 15 yrs. But the law in Ontario states Two Weeks is all employers legally have give you.

    Businesses post the price without the tax because of game theory. They actually have the option to post prices with or without tax, as long as it's made clear to the consumer. Even though it makes more sense to post the price with tax to the thoughtful, the prices of the businesses not including tax would always appear to be lower. No one would take the chance that the thoughtful might be the majority.

  • @ericgeorgetruckgrilling
    @ericgeorgetruckgrilling 3 года назад +2

    You probably already been told this but the majority of a house price here is property value. You mentioned Oakville many years ago it had the highest income per capita for Ontario mainly because of the Ford plant. Now I think it's Nepean (near Ottawa). Also Ontario has one of the worst vacation allotments in Canada. I think by law a company needs to only give you two weeks even if you are there 20 years. Thankfully not a lot of companies follow that law. This is why we have unions to negotiate for us. The lack of wood in houses in S.Africa is that because of termites or exteme weather? Here in Ontario we really don't have either. Our last hurricane was in 1954 although we are in tornado alley. The two lakes affect our weather a lot especially in the winter if they don't freeze over. By the way welcome to Canada hope you enjoy life here.

      It’s around 3 months where I am in Ontario. It’s definitely not cold year round but the Autumn and Spring season here can feel like a mild South African winter period, it’s not the same as Autumn and Spring in SA. When you’ve acclimatized to the weather here, you’ll find Autumn and Spring are not cold, just cool but I know it’s temperatures I would have considered as winter while living in SA.

      Hi Chris, yes that’s correct, we didn’t have a problem finding work in the same industry we worked in before moving to Canada.
      You might have to start off in a role a bit lower than what you had in your home country then look for something else when you have a few months of Canadian work experience but that’s not always the case for everyone, you could just start off in a similar position or higher, people’s experiences are very different.
