Excellent; thanks! Love the high mountains and the gorgeous lakes! If you've never; try, landing a lake trout into ready, hot fry-pan! Nothing fresher; lifetime experience! Thanks for the great video!
I'd say it's more of the single speed version, it's fun but not going to be for everybody. I also think its funny there are people that think their method of catching fish is "cooler" than other peoples... when at the end of the day you're throwing a line and fly to a fish, just to catch it and let it go. Cheers!
That was so great. My first Tenkara rod comes tomorrow. The Sierra. Have a packing trip into the Sierras planned for June. It’s going to be just that kind of fishing. Stoked!
Shoutout to you guys for at least trying to maintain a low key spot, most large channels suck at it but I appreciate you guys trying. May have to buy a rod as your rods are practical for the narrow creeks ive been exploring.
Ya we understand that its hard to keep places completely secret these days but we are definitely not trying to blow up any spots. Hopefully everyone just gets out there and finds their own spots because that is half the fun.
Ain't NOTHING better than tenkara for a food-getter as well as entertainment on a hike if you don't have to be somewhere at a certain time...... AND.... my entire fishing kit including rod weighs in at under 5 ounces.....yup....as good as it gets
Had a day like yours at a high lake near Mt Lassen, some bushwacking and some using all four going up. Caught lots of nice cuties. You guys must be vegetarian, I always pack lemon pepper. Nothing wrong with a couple iceout holdovers sizzling on a stick. Short lifespan for most of those airdrop planters.
Great video guys ! I hope I can hook into a few that size with my Sierra rod. It’s great to see what the rods can handle. I’m extremely happy with my purchase from you guys btw. I will finally get to fish with it for the first time this weekend in Colorado. Thanks 🙏🏼
Thanks Andrew, I still get a little nervous watching those rods in action when they're bending in half but we've been able to land some nice fish. Good luck out there!
Welp guys ....... I got out there and fish a high mountain lake in SoCo and hooked into some cutties just like in this video. My Sierra rod performed sooooo good ! Unfortunately a day later I fought a big 15” 🌈 and the rod broke at the #6 section. I think I fell on the rod during the fight causing it to break. I caught at least 50 trout in 3 days with that awesome Sierra rod. I absolutely love it ! Take care 🤙🏼
I wish I had buddies (Into fishing) to go fishing and hiking in a landscape like that with. Very lucky. America has a lot of country to play in. Uk is not so wild.
Typically on a high mountain lake I will do 13 ft. line with about 3-4 feet of tippet. But sometimes I might go smaller or longer just depending on if I can reach the fish or not!
why don’t y’all say which of your rods you’re using….and flies. looks like the Sierra rod fir Tuna, and the Sawtooth for Drew? I just got these two, but have not used them yet. Nice to see they can bend quite a bit without breaking
Cool video and gorgeous fish!!! Which rod would you recommend for a long hike (350 miles) mainly off-trail at Tierra del Fuego where weight is pretty important? Thanks, Fede
@@tenkararodco thanks for the info! I thought the Beartooth was going to be the best option, but I already heard great things from the Sawtooth and I hope I can try one :)
Hi@@cycloneranger5354 I took Tenkara's Owhyhee which was great for the rivers but there wasn't much I could do at lakes... if I had the possibility, for a similar trip, I think I would choose a travel fly rod from REYR gear. If you're only willing to use tenkara rods, then even the tiny Beartooth will be a great choice!
Tenkara? Heck looks like my Grandaddy's cane pole but with a fly line instead of mono and bobber. LOL No, seriously, it's something I want to try. What state was this in? It would be that much lighter hiking the Beartooth lakes without carrying a reel. Well, slightly lighter.
Awesome video guys, always enjoy your content. Do you have any suggestions on how to fish stillwater like this in terms of the action on your fly? I'm still learning but have been so focused on getting a good drift on streams that I haven't even tried Tenkara on a lake yet!
With this lake and most high mtn lakes the fish are cruising the shore so they like to hear the splat of the hopper, beetle ant or whatever hitting the water, sometimes a little tiny twitch helps as well!
The senery was amazing ! And the fishing wasn't too bad either. What rods were u using ? Some of the leaders seemed pretty long, do u try to use the length of your rod as a guide for line and leader combined. Thx again for sharing
Yeah its beautiful up there! We were mostly using the Sierra, Teton Zoom, and testing out a new model we have coming out. For lakes, sometimes you'll want to use a longer line and just know it'll be harder to land fish. But luckily here, the fish were super close so we were fishing 8 ft and 10 ft lines with about 3-4 ft of tippet tied on.
This looks like the seven devil's in Idaho but it could be near stanley Idaho. He mentioned Idaho in a comment but mostly above a certain elevation in the mountains. Not a reservoir but a natural lake.
This was in Idaho but there are thousands of great high mountain lakes all throughout the Rocky mountains so the fun part is just trying out different lakes during different times and seeing what is best!
Great video/content! Just ordered my first Tenkara…Live in CO and have been fly fishing for a long time. This is new to me. Flies…standards terrestrials for the lake or were you using Tenkara flies?? Heard you say parachute and beetle.
Stoked for you good luck! For the lake in this video we were just using standard dries. Probably a mix of terrestrials and stimulators. The cutties weren't picky!
We don't ever disclose the exact places of where we fish to avoid overcrowding these special places. We do highly recommend checking a map and doing some scouting for good places near you, thats a big part of the fun!

Backpacking is the jelly to our peanut butter. The baguette to our cured meats and cheeses. Agree?
The union of hiking and mountain fishing is truly incredible.
Nothing better!
I identify wolf tracks for a living ...that one looks pretty legit.....Nice fish 🐟
Yeah those tracks were a long ways off trail so it’s unlikely that it was a domesticated dog. That area is know to have lots of wolves!
What area is this with wolves?
Beautiful lake.. beautiful fish! Nothing better than fishing mountain high lakes
You got that right!
I just bought two Tenkara rods after watching this. Moving to Colorado in three weeks so cant wait to use them..
You are going to have a lot of fun with all of those lakes and rivers in Colorado! Good Luck!
Man, that was fun to watch over lunch! Thanks for beaming some outdoors into the home office.
Thats what we are here for!

Thanks for the great video!
Thanks for watching! And ya we do occasionally eat trout when backpacking very hard to beat!
yup that was a beautiful trip! the reward was worth every step of bush whacking
Tenkara is like the fixed gear bike of the fishing world

You guys are living the dream. Wish I was there. Awesome. Great video.
Thanks Danny! Just trying to show people how fun Tenkara can be.
Dude, always bushwack to the next lake. Fun video!
Always!
Awesome video! This place meets my #1 requirement for excellent fly fishing ... go where there's lots of fish!!!! Thanks for sharing and tight lines.
Thanks we had a fun time up there!
Such a great break from all the crap going on. Beautiful lake and beautiful fish!
So nice to get away to where no one is around!
What rod are you using. I’m looking for something Versatile. Thanks looks fun!
Sweet, looking forward to giving my Beartooth a try soon.
Beartooth is so fun to backpack with, good luck!
That Teton net has put up so many fish for you guys! High mountain lakes at its finest thanks for the adventure fellas! “Killing it like always” 🙌🏼

Complimenti, video molto suggestivo e bellissime catture👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼💯💯💯💯👌👌👌👌🎣🎣🎣🎣
That was awesome. Those are some really nice fish and a great example of Tenkara lake fishing. I'm suriuos about what mountains you were in.
Thanks for watching! High mountain lakes can be hit or miss. Luckily we got this one at the right time! This lake is near Mccall, Idaho where I live.
Great Video! Thanks for sharing. Can't wait to see more 👍
We are putting out new videos every other Tuesday thanks for watching!
Great video!.... looks like a super fun time
Thanks we super appreciate it. Definitely a good time.
You guys KILL IT!!! love your videos! Mountain lakes and streams are my favorite to fish!!
Thanks, yeah it's so fun to explore and get away from the usual spots that get loads of pressure all summer.
Great video guys. Wonderful scenery and good fishing. Feel envious of your wilderness places. Thanks for sharing 👍
Thanks for watching
Nice! I can’t wait to put my bear tooth rod to work out west- from South Carolina.
Good luck!
Very cool and relaxing!..thanks!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Right on, I’m gonna pick up a poll seems efficient and light weight.
Really easy to use and extremely lightweight and portable.
Lee Wulff, landed a 150 lb. Tarpon on Tenkara!!! And at a another time a 300 lb. Marlin!!😃🤠

Lucky buggers
Awesome video guys
Wish I could fish these waters!!
Amazing so beautiful and I am obsessed with tenkara. You guys inspire keep it up.
Thank you so much 😀
It's surprising such a small rod but a full sized net.
Drew, nice fishing - had a flashback to when we were all up there together a couple of years ago. Fish on!
That lake does not disappoint!
Fun to watch!
Glad you liked it!
Loving it fellas. It’s funny being stationed in Japan, because I use the Tenkara rods, but the locals here use fly rods.
Yeah haha thats what he always hear, maybe Tenkara is bigger in the US than in Japan at the moment?
Well... that was fun.
Glad you liked it!
Great video bud 🤙🏽
Glad you enjoyed it!
I'm interested in your Tenkara fishing and the landscape.
Its pretty fun!
Outstanding
Great vid guys! Quite possibly the only thing better is bikepacking!
Thanks! Agreed, we had one of our bikepacking trips cancelled earlier this summer, hoping to squeeze one in September.
Looks fun
Hard to beat backpacking and tenkara!
That was a great video!
Glad you liked it!
Great video of AWESOME fishing!!!
Looks like Wyoming...maybe Wind Rivers?
Anything is possible!
Great Video!
Thanks Matthew! Backpacking x Tenkara is hard to beat!
Love it.
That looked like an absolute blast. I don't have any mountain lakes near me, but I'll be camping near some streams this fall. Can't wait.
It was definitely a blast, camping near any fishy water is always a good time!

Great video!! Motivation for my videos. Big up!
Thanks a lot!
Great video! Are you guys using level line?
I think we have the crossbreed on for this video its normally our go to for lakes in the Summer
What rod length and leader length did you use? What an awesome video!
Typically on a high mountain lake I will do 13 ft. line with about 3-4 feet of tippet. But sometimes I might go smaller or longer just depending on if I can reach the fish or not!
Rad!
🤟👌👌👌
You are using nylon line?
Seems crazy to catch such perfect fish and not even eat a single one…
We definitely eat fish sometimes but that is usually not the goal.
why don’t y’all say which of your rods you’re using….and flies. looks like the Sierra rod fir Tuna, and the Sawtooth for Drew? I just got these two, but have not used them yet. Nice to see they can bend quite a bit without breaking

Superb 👌

I can't remember anything after the huckleberries...
I think we ate too many!
Is the yari going to be available again in 2021? I missed the first preorder
Maybe! It definitely seems like people like it!
Beautiful. But who hikes 12 miles in without his own net?!! I won't ever fish without a net, but that's just me.
Haha exactly! To be fair we did have one net though.

Mainly using the Yari rod in this one (the red one) but also the Teton Zoom.
