Psycho II has a well deserved reputation as a very good sequel. Huge credit goes to Perkins for a very strong and sympathetic performance. There was also some good direction and stage piece framing on show as well. As ever, I disagree with Siskell who (as he so often did) misreads the whole film; the one thing it is certainly not is a retread / copy. It very much tells its own story which is distinct from the original
@@stopthephilosophicalzombie9017 Yep, very true. Whilst I didn't often agree with Ebert I at least understood some of his reasons....but Siskell? Jeesh....I lost track of how often I wondered if he had even watched the film at all 🙈😁
@@steelpatriot3683 I agree. He was a strange one. He did regularly like David Lynch movies which Ebert panned. I think he liked Cronenberg also. Two of my favorite directors.
its fun to see that, i don`t know Siskel and Ebert much but evry time i stumble over reviews they made i wonder how they could have been of any importance...the part were one says, the movie is a retread...its really questionable how much of the movie the guy has seen 🤔 Psycho II is an excellent sequel, but the Original hangs more over the heads of those two guys...
When I saw this movie in theaters in summer 83. It was crowded a lot people I guess wanted to see it. These film had a lot of controversy because it is sequel to a Hitchcock movie and the film critic's attitudes were how dare they make a sequel to his film. I thought it was really good sequel to a classic movie. I like the fact that you are feeling sorry for Norman Bates and you are supporting him to stay sane and not lost his sanity. Very well directed film as well as it's screenplay. A lot suspense and excitement a really good thriller.
@@TurbidTG1 The audience definitely got caught up into the film. The opening shower scene had two young women seating behind me one them never saw the original Psycho. She freaked out in opening shower scene. Another audience member was try guess who was doing the killing. He believed the sheriff was responsible. The audience was really getting into movie. It was fun watching it with crowded audience.
Yes this film DOES have the presumption and it is far more entertaining and rewatchable than 'Psycho' in my opinion, so pick the bones out of that Siskel and Whatsname.....
Just watched it. Its actually more interesting and layed than the original. As a film student, theres so much in it to unpack. Its a worthy sequel to say the least.
SINCE RUclips WOULD NOT LET ME COMMENT ON THE REMAKE OF PSYCHO ROGER THOUGHT IT WOULD HAVE BEEN BETTER IF THE PSYCHIATRIST WAS CUT OUT OF THE MOVIE. WHAT A MORONIC SUGGESTION?
@@JasonBagherian Btw, do you think we were supposed to conclude that Norman and Mary hooked up in the movie? I never could tell. They seemed to suggest some chemistry between them, but it wasn't clear.
One of the best sequels ever made.
The third one is even better.
Considering that it came out in the height of the dime a dozen Slasher craze, Psycho II isn't exploitative, which I very much appreciated.

Siskel and Ebert both had some really bad takes. They panned a lot of movies that ended up on a lot of top 10 lists.

I think Siskel & Ebert were tired of so many horror films getting made back in the early 80's
I love this movie.

it,s better movie than original if REAL truth be told...better...the last scene is fantastic when it comes to payoffs [ kissing 2 fingers ]

First movie is my fav all time movie
And somehow i love this sequel and even the third one
About this one i disliked the real "mother" part
Any chance you have their review for Jodorowsky’s Santa Sangre on your list of edits?
If I can get a copy of it in HD I will do it. Looks like a very interesting film.
@@JasonBagherian it’s out on Blu-ray. 🍻 Great film.
Meg Tilly is still hot to this day.
I agree Meg is beautiful in a really quirky way. Jennifer too.

@@stopthephilosophicalzombie9017 I would say Norman and Mary definitely had chemistry but I don't think they ever hooked up.
@@JasonBagherian Yeah that would have been too weird.
Better than the original.
