The Todd McFarlane's Spider-man run is my childhood. My first one was spider-man #3 and then I stuck with it. To me his run is the equivalent to Batman Hush. Not the best written, but it's beautiful to look at and it draws you in.
just ordered this! Absolutely loved the McFarlane run, being born in the 90’s his art style of Spiderman will always be the Spiderman I think of when I hear the name A true pioneer that broke the ‘rules’ and changed the game forever, simplicity in his story telling was key but it worked with his gritty art style… McFarlane & Bagley will forever be my favourite Spidey artists 🕷
I might have to pick this one up myself 😎 I like the idea of spider man but I haven't found a gritty/epic fun depiction of the character I could get into 😔 this might be a winner for my taste! I like what zeb wells is doing but it's not consistent.
Todd is really one of the best to ever draw comics. Yeah, his faces aren't always the best, but his art is so detailed and creative, and his writing isn't bad at all. Dude has been entertaining me since I got into comics just before starting highschool.
It's great seeing how far Todd has come as an artist and entrepreneur. what are the chances of seeing his version of spidey enter the spiderverse? would love to see an cg animated story of multiple spider folk hunting down cannibals, I'm sure the kids would love it. Great video!
Agreed. I know Spawn has its fans and creator owned comics are a big deal, but I care much more about great dynamic artist working on the great established characters from the big two or at least great licensed properties like Star Wars, Aliens, Predator, Buffy etc...
@@maximusaurelius9906 yeah, exactly. Creator owned are great and all, but always sad to see them never return to the big 2. I get it though, don't get me wrong.
Todd Macfarlane and Sal buscemi are my favourite spiderman artists. Spiderman is great comic, peter parker is a great character, he had many flaws, like all humans. Spiderman is a very intelligent comic.
You always do a awesome video all the time this one is a great and awesome video about Spider-Man thank you for showing this book off for us and I hope you and all the loved ones are having a wonderful day and night thank you so much for what you do and including when you do live streams with your wife thank you so much
I just finished reading it for the first time and I hear a lot of people talk trash about McFarlane "you read for the art, not the story". And while the dialogue can be iffy at times, I felt the stories in the were real fun. The settings are a lot darker but he kept Spider-Man how he's supposed to be, lighthearted
I love that Calypso was the main antagonist it's rare for female Spider-Man villains to be main antagonists in a well known story plus cool to see Lizard
Yoooooo !! Dope!! I got the full run and still grabbed the Omni!! Art is crazy hot and story is good todd always gets a bad rap for that but it’s good 90s stuff!!
I have two copies of this awesome trade, my hard cover has the Black suit Spider-Man from the "Sub-City" two parter. Then my paper back copy is just the copy you are reviewing here, I got the paper back along with seeing Spider-Man NO Way Home film after finishing up my Christmas shopping!
Lol My dad bought me the very first omnibus of Spider-Man Torment when I was 6 years old. It was my first exposure to Spider-Man and it was... just not for my age. I was worried seeing Spidey all beaten up. Ah good days.
As usual, awesome to see Omni reviews. I loved this stuff back in the day, and McFarlane is great, but man, looking back, his art and anatomy can be pretty f'ed up at times. Side note, I live 25 minutes away from Hope, B.C. If you ever saw First Blood with Stallone, it was filmed there too. It's that towns one claim to fame as a location.
Todd was also prophetic when he drew the World Trade Center with a huge hole in it on his last comic in the series. Anyone else notice that? The guy didn't even mention it. Maybe because the image is burned into our psyche and he didn't even think of the fact that this was ten years before 9/11.
Got one for myself and another as a gift. This is one of those books that can win you over with the art if not the story. Plus, the run, what came just before it over in Amazing Spider-man and what came next with the great Marvel super artist exodus to launch Image comics make it a historically relevant book to own.
One of my favorite spidey runs, A lot of people dunk on the narrative but I loved every second of his run, it's cheesy 90s fun with some of the best spidey art to date IMO. I honestly wonder what the timeline is like where todd never made spawn or image and kept drawing spidey for ten years. Not saying i want to live on that timeline, but I'd love to read a 100-issue Mcfarlane spidey run, his voice for the character and art were one of a kind. I truly believe we'll never get a run like this again.
I definitely prefer the darker Spider-Man stories such as Kraven's Last Hunt, Cosmic Spider-man, and the stuff in the Lifetheft Epic Collection, so I found this for 50% off on Instock Trades and decided to order it and give it a chance. I have the X-Force crossover in the X-Force epic collection, and that was a pain in the ass to read and had a lot of gutter loss so I didn't enjoy it too much, but the other stories definitely seem like something I could be into. I'm also glad in general that you're doing more reviews again. I've missed them. I like how you don't just shit on things just because it's cool to do so, whether it be 90s comics or current era comics, but you don't just blindly gush about everything either, but instead give your honest opinion on what works and what doesn't work within the collection.
922 It is funny to go back and see stuff that dates the time a comic. At this point when this issue would have been released was during the big say NO to drugs era. Most likely why a marvel comic aimed at kids would push the same message.
You can tell Todd had Spawn on his mind during his run on this series. I picked up the black costume variant from cheapgraphicnovels, and they sent me the book with the Wolverine variant cover on it, and the black costume variant cover dust jacket bagged and boarded on the side!
💎 Another great video Gemmint 💎. I love Todd McFarlanes Spider-Man 💎. So many iconic covers from him 💎. I am currently looking for the Spider-Man vs venom omnibus 💎. Hopefully it gets a reprinting one day 💎. Keep up the great content Gemmint 💎.
People criticize his writing on this series, and it is flawed in areas, but I honestly really like the direction MacFarlane took on his run. You never really saw Spidey in horror-like stories such as the ones in MacFarlane’s run, so I understand why some people didn’t like this side of the Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man. Torment was a legitimately intense story. For me the writing on his run was a 6.5-7 out of 10 but the art was 10 out of 10 for me.
Do you / have you read any 2000AD runs, as a Brit I grew up on that and it definitely shaped my reading choices later in life. Love Allen Moore, Pat Mills. The dark stuff is great like Nemesis the Warlock, halo Jones, and of course the Judge himself. Can’t recommend enough.
Gem I see your ad for Dynamite, Priests Vampirella has just relaunched in Vampirella Unholy #1. You should pick it up for next week, it’s a very good run, Dynamite have some great comics, Barbarella is my favourite comic of all the comics that I get, Vengeance of Vampirella, & Vampiverse are also good. Then Invincible Red Sonja is a really fun comic, and Sheena, Jennifer Blood, Red Sonja, NYX. I’m having more fun with Dynamite than any of the other publishers at the moment.
The writing is not great of course But wow….. That Art is just absolutely jaw dropping and SPECTACULAR . It’s a real shame that he has moved away from art and now just occasionally writes and acts as a CEO because no doubt about it- He was one of the best Comic Book Artists ever!
So this run by Todd issues 1-15 is an isolated continuity correct? After his run on the original amazing Spider-Man he was given his own separate story which was compiled into this omnibus and there’s no volume 2 or anything of this continuity afterward correct? Brand new to comics and looking for somewhere to jump in.
Got my tickets me and the Fam are going tonight at 1145. Great review. Hey if I start buying more marvel omnibus. What would you suggest to buy as my first big marvel Omni?
Great review! A classic worth to be in every collectors archive. Do you know what edition was released with the uncut scene with shatterstar acually stabbing juggernaut in the eye? I've heard about it just wasn't sure if it was true.
Your shelves are what I want mine to look like eventually. Can anyone recommend some affordable low price-per-page omnibuses? All I have right now are JLA, Batman (Synder/Capullo) and Spawn Compendium Vol.1.
I’m wondering if I should get the amazing Spider-Man epic collection vol 1 or the Todd McFarlane Spider-Man complete collection. Please if someone could recommend which one I should get :)
so where is issue #15? think missing is it one to buy any connected story?? they did thid to the other too i had to buy 4 issues for the 3 tpb now all in omnibus form im buying both omnis now!....$135 new guy wants both deal i think...

Fantastic art. So much detail. McFarlane was firing on all cylinders. Gritty, gritty.
Such an iconic run. Wish we got more from Todd on Spidey.

My favorite art of all time.
The definitive Spider-Man look as far as I'm concerned. Great vid.
Hahaha! Mortimer and Randolph! Trading Places with cameos in Coming to America! 🤣

Bought this a few weeks ago as my first spidey omni. It is a very good book.
I can’t wait to order this book! I love McFarlanes work!
My only problem with this is the page count. Marvel needs to realize an omnibus should have 750+ pages. This isn't even 450

do you think this is better than the one with larsen or michelienie?
The bubble booty cover 😆 made worse (or enhanced?) by the placement of a leaf on each cheek
Going thru this…we need better art in our comics these days…ASM art has been weak lately
