- The Laos New Year Festival, also known as Pi Mai Lao, is a three-day celebration that takes place annually in mid-April, and is one of the most important cultural events in Laos. The festival marks the end of the dry season and the beginning of the rainy season, and is a time for family reunions, spiritual cleansing, and paying respect to the country's ancestors. During this time, the streets of Laos are filled with people splashing water on each other, a traditional ritual believed to cleanse people of their sins and bad luck. Pi Mai Lao is also a time for feasting on traditional Lao cuisine, playing traditional games, and engaging in other cultural activities that showcase the unique customs and traditions of Laos.

I’m shock to see that people are standing while putting their offerings as the monks walked by. They should be on their knees on the ground. To properly accept the blessing from the monk, one should sit down like the man in a yellow shirt. 👍👍

Just a little pointer: The Lao flag with the three head elephant would be more appropriate on the thumbnail. :)
Why is that? Please enlighten me. Im still very much uninformed about Laotian culture and history.
Do that and you won’t get any respect from organisations based in Laos like Buddhist organisations. They don’t want to get on the wrong side of the Lao government
@@serandythats the old Lao flag that many Lao, Hmong and Mien last saw before leaving Lao to refugee camps then to the USA. The Flag with the 3 headed elephant was the original flag when Royal Lao was still in power before the communist gain control. After communist took over the new and current flag was introduced 🇱🇦. That's why in America you still see the 3 headed elephant flag because it's the last flag they saw and remember before leaving their country to USA. hope this helps.
