Washington State Governor proclaims April 13 - 15, 2024 as Lao New Year (Pi Mai) days. This is signficant for the Lao community of Washington State (Lao population approximately 13000)!
This video is a vlog covering Lao New Year celebrations at Wat Mixay, a Lao Buddhist temple in South, Seattle. Much of the vlog is participant led as attendees took command of my camera from time to time as I took photos of the nang sangkhan and festival goers.

There are so many Laotian in the west cost. That's totally awesome 👌 looks like there's a lot of things happening there. Lots of high spirits and happiness going on there. I really like that thank you all for not forgetting our culture and traditions. Brother you've been to many places that is great. Keep up the good work we need more Laotian to spread more love around the world. We've been hiding for so long it's time for us to show our culture to the world. Growing up people had asked me where I'm from when telling them I'm from Laos. Many people scratched their heads. Now I'm not holding back I'm gonna go out there and represent our Laotian brothers and sisters. Like it or not we are LAOD and PROUD!!! I meant very loud!!! @@truthseeker4740 Look at how it’s spelled at most Lao temples in the U.S, it’s wat not vat. But neither is how it’s pronounced if you want to be technical.
@@LaoOcean NEW Lao generation has the tendency to misspelled and mispronounced Lao words. Absorbed too much Thai media and most of the highly educated people just doesn’t care to correct any mistakes fearing of offending others. As for me, my parents made sure not to expose me to the Thai media ever since we immigrated to the USA about a little over 4 decades ago. They were making sure that I speak/ write Lao language correctly and properly. My family were from Vientiane. The original spelling was Viengchan, pre-communist Laos.
