    Looks nice, thinking to build a Waiex turbo. if you were to do it all over, would you still do this vs. something like an RV?

    • @kyqx
      @kyqx  6 лет назад +3

      If I did it over again, I would install the latest Jabiru 3300 in a Waiex. My airplane is just too practical. I'd rather put the money saved over an RV into second airplane because one airplane does not do it all.

    • @kyqx
      @kyqx  9 месяцев назад +1

      Thank you. I can't speak from experience but if you have the "lowered seat mod" you can likely still fit. Try to find a local flyer to take a trial fit.

    What engine do you have? Curious that it doesnt take mogas...? And is your plane IFR certified? Looks like it is, but unsure what radios you have installed. BTW, this is an awesome video!

    • @kyqx
      @kyqx  4 года назад +1

      Thanks. It's a Jabiru 3300. 100LL is the best fuel for a number of reasons. VFR only. IFR equipment would be heavy and expensive for a 700 lb. sportplane.

    how does your butterfly tail work? is the elevator/rudder mixer connected to your rudder down below? or do you control the v-tail with your stick at the same time?

    • @kyqx
      @kyqx  3 года назад +1

      There are pushrods that activate the elevator inputs via the stick and are mixed with cable operated rudder inputs via conventional pedals. The mixer is located about 2/3 of the way aft in the empennage.

    • @kyqx

      I'm about 5'10". I'd say 6'2" might be near the limit before the canopy might be an issue. Seat thickness can be adjusted too. I'd find one to try on for size.

    Amazing video! Thank you for posting this!
    I was wondering if anyone knows if using a plane like this (or the Onex) is a practical means of traveling long distances regularly (like twice a month on clear days/daytime only). For example, if I lived in NV and wanted to fly regularly to CA, could that be done? I know it technically can; but that doesn't mean it's feasible. MojoGrip's YT channel claims that a Sonex can go for 24k used and according to the company's website, it can achieve 155 mph TAS @ 44.25 mpg and a range of 535 miles. Putting aside the 5k needed for a pilot's license, does it make more sense to fly yourself than buy a plane ticket?

    • @kyqx
      @kyqx  5 лет назад +3

      Weather is the key. My Waiex has been quite reliable and could be used for such a trip as described. I'd much rather be in my airplane going 150 mph than with the masses at 500 mph. I can serve myself a drink!

    • @lynnkramer1211
      @lynnkramer1211 2 года назад

      If you factor in the true cost per hour of use or per mile traveled, it is not a cost effective alternative. Check on the rental rate for a plane in your location wet and you can soon begin to understand the true cost of ownership. Rental expenses are when you want to do them, but ownership eats while you sleep. Another factor, is 'get there-itis' using a LSA to commute is prone to canceling often for weather.

    • @Mike-tt8wi
      @Mike-tt8wi 5 месяцев назад

      Sonex ownership should be much less than typical rental- and you don’t have the flight school breathing down your neck to get the plane back at a certain time.

    An amazing aircraft. What's the fuel economy at cruise speed? 16 gallons capacity right?

    • @kyqx
      @kyqx  2 года назад +1

      I run about 140 mph which is an "economy cruise" resulting in a 5.2 gallon per hour fuel burn at cruise altitudes of 6000-8000 feet.
