I'm so glad to hear that my tutorials are helping you navigate Audacity more effectively and understand its features with clarity - keep up the great work on your music projects!
Can you create a tutorial in which you will show us how you edit your voice to sound similar to Jon Bailey (Screen Junkies/Hones Trailer Narrator). I know it's a hard challenge but it would be interesting. Thank you!
Thanks for getting me up and running! This helped a lot with my new audio hardware. I got a Samson Q2u dynamic mic and M-Audio M-Track Solo interface. The gain was too low and I felt like getting something to boost the signal. In this case, I was able to "fix i in post" and get the gain to a good level. Also, to delete a section, I was able to simply select the range and hit "delete" on the keyboard. It got rid of the selection and closed the gap -- if you want that result. The method you suggest allows us to keep the timing, but getting rid of the unwanted sections.
I'm thrilled to hear that the tutorial helped you with your new audio gear! It's great to see you're already mastering post production techniques and finding solutions to enhance your recordings effectively.
I recently watched an Audacity tutorial that was about 45 minutes long. His video had a couple of details that your vid did not include; however, his video was FORTY FIVE minutes long lol. In 8 minutes you covered just as much info with better polish too. Great job!
Thank you for the tutorial, it's my first introduction to Audacity, not sure if it's just on a Mac but incase anyone else is affected I found that to find my 'project sample rate' I had to click 'Audio Setup button > Audio Settings' as it doesn't appear in the bottom left of my screen as it does in yours :)
Great tutorial, thanks! How would I remove special sounds, like inhales or smacking the lips, but without removing the whole section (because I obviously want to leave the space there in between words)?
You can use the spectral repair tool or the paintbrush tool in the frequency spectrum view to target and remove specific frequencies associated with the unwanted sounds while preserving the rest of the audio.
Is there any current audio editing software which still allows individual selection of edit points during playback, instead of forcing you to choose both the starting and ending edit points with the same action?
hi Mike. great tutorial, one of the better videos ive seen. im an Audacity newbee and a recorder player (what some call a block flute). id like to enhance the audio of videos of my playing. ive figured out how to modify the audio from a recorded video with Audacity. is there any way to get the modified audio paired with the original video so i could upload to youtube? i cant seem to find any information on this and you seem to be about the best source of info i can find on Audacity. any help would be appreciated. (from Herb)
Hi Herb, to pair your edited audio with your original video in Audacity for RUclips upload, you'll need to export the audio file separately and then re-import it as an audio track during the video editing process in a video editor like Adobe Premiere Pro or OBS Studio. Let me know if you need further assistance!

@@MikeRussell please help me. I have create a spectrum txt file with Audacity, the voice (in wav) is very very good but i don't remember my preset applied. It is possible from this spectrum.txt file, make another rec and apply this preset? i have the final rec in wav (very very good), but i don't remember all steps performed. I have no idea if I'm just losing my hearing or what, but I hear maybe ever so slightly deeper lower tones and literally nothing else changed in my ears. What I learned: just do some basics to the audio that are best practice as shown here and then leave it alone and focus on the video and flare. As long as it's not extremely muddy or extremely tinny, or drowned in too much background noise, the audio is more than good enough for hobby videos. 👍
I'm glad you found the tips in the video helpful for achieving balanced audio in your videos while maintaining focus on the visuals - it's all about finding that sweet spot!
Sorry Mike, but what's the idea behind that dip in the EQ at 8 kHz? I'm totally lost on that :) the rest is easy to follow - thank you for the tutorial!

Your editing guide is very good. I have a problem: playback, the sound bar is moving, cant get any sound. Setting up it's the MacBook speaker, Rescanned Audio Devices, still no sound. Can you help?
I'd recommend checking your MacBook's audio settings to ensure Audacity is set to the correct output device, and also try restarting both Audacity and your MacBook to see if that resolves the playback issue with the sound bar moving but no sound. Hope this helps!
There really is no substitute for proper recording I'm afraid. We can always work with what we have but we can't work with what we don't have unfortunately.
The optimal sample rate can vary, but 44.1 kHz is commonly used for music. However, if you're happy with 48 kHz for your affirmations, that's perfectly fine too!
Thanks mate. Just a question though. Why would you edit a sound file with audacity? I mean the only use case i can think of is music, but I believe you would use something more sophisticated for that. Otherwise audio for videos is mostly handled in the video editor too right?
Great question! While Audacity might seem basic compared to more advanced software, it's a free, open-source option that's great for simple audio editing tasks. You may require more if doing detailed video work like you mention.
Hi mike, this is my first time using audacity and i have multiple sections for my audio and want to quickly normalize and compress across all section. Currently its having me do each section even though i selected snap.
Hey there! In Audacity, to apply effects like normalize and compress across multiple sections, you can use the "Apply Chain" feature which allows you to batch process your audio edits. Hope this helps!
Yes, in Audacity, you can navigate around your project without moving the tracks by holding down the "H" key on your keyboard and clicking and dragging with your mouse.
Hi there! Absolutely, Audacity is a great tool for singers to record vocals and add music for a complete audio production experience. Enjoy exploring the possibilities!
Thanks a ton. But I have somehow picked up the Pencil Icon and it has stopped me from recording. How can I get rid of it? I triedtoput ib back in the the pencil icon on the menu bar. But it won't stay there.
Brother, I hope you read all my comments I tried to start creating content with voiceover, and I bought a Boya M1 microphone and tried recording and editing audio with Audacity, but I did not reach the desired result that I see with other RUclipsrs. I also applied many explanations on RUclips, but with no result. My question is, can I really achieve what I want to achieve with Boya M1 and Audacity, or should I give up and accept the fait accompli? Thank you
Absolutely! You'll want to export your audio file from Audacity as an MP3 or WAV, which can be directly uploaded to RUclips without needing to convert it further.
To add music to your Audacity project, you can import audio files by going to File -> Import -> Audio, then place them on separate tracks and adjust their volume levels accordingly!
Hi Mike. When I am trying to edit the audio track, the sound is so weak even when wearing the headset, that I can't know where to make the cuts. I can see the gaps. But without sound I can't fine tune the cutting. However, when I download the track to my computer, .it is loud and perefectly audible. What is wrong? How to I increase the level for editing? Secondly, every time I delete a space in the track, a message appears saying: "Select the audio for Delete Key2 to use (for example, Ctrl + A to Select All) then try again. I haven't the slightest idea what this means and I don't have any Delete key2.
Hey! Sounds like your audio is playing tricks on you. Just crank up the levels in your editor, and make sure to click on the track before you try to delete stuff. You got this!

The "tempo" display you're seeing is likely due to the default settings in Audacity, which is designed to show tempo rather than the project sample rate, but you can easily change this to display the sample rate in the project settings.

why do i see "tempo" instead of the Project rate (Hz) thing in the bottom left corner
The "tempo" display you're seeing is likely due to the default settings in Audacity, which is designed to show tempo rather than the project sample rate, but you can easily change this to display the sample rate in the project settings.
I just downloaded Audacity a week or so ago, and there is no Project Rate section at the bottom left. Hopefully, that doesn't matter too much.
Audacity's interface might have slight changes over versions. You can still edit without it. Just ensure you're using the correct rate when exporting.
