- “When you’re playing organ or electric sounds on this action it’s funky, it feels really cool to play” Rudi aka Funk-Master Zarka
The V-Combo VR-730 delivers top-quality organ, electric piano, acoustic piano, and synth sounds in a travel-ready instrument with a 73-note waterfall keyboard. You don’t need to carry around that heavy vintage combo organ, rotary speaker, and traditional EP anymore-the VR-730 gives you the essential sounds and authentic playability you need while saving your back.

Can’t tell if the sounds are good or if his playing is just great
I think a little of both. Im stoked to start playing this baby live soon
@@ChrisCJJohnson 2/3rds his talent. 1/3rd Keyboard. (IMO). He's a beast, just listen to the style changes for each different instrument type.... Keyboard is very tasty though.
WOW! I'M dancing! Dude rips it! I could listen to this guy free style all day. Great instrument mastery. I seem to forget about why I'm watching the video and just space out when he starts playing. Thumbs up for the professional playing. I got to watch the video again to actually learn about the instrument.
A man with chops and knowledge, a real technician and musician, showing us what's possible! My favorite reviewer!!
great tone on that EP - exactly what I love
The man, the myth, the legend, Rudi Zarka
Roland had been my top leading board since the 70s.i was only 9 then. Im now 54 yesrs of age and own quite a bit now of Roland keyboards JV sound set JV1010 with SR-JV08-08 Keyboards of the 60s and 70s my organs are very useful all the sounds were tweaked on Sound Diver and has been set to bring more life to these sounds. I also use a boss GT guitar effects to make them sound more lively as well as editing all 255a and 255b thats 510 sounds on my sound card alone. Your demo has me sold on the VR730 but now in 2023 they are hard to find
i am also amazed by the price and quality of sounds, especially the organs, compared to other expensive keyboards. i might get one soon for my gigs.
George Kwesi Davis This is the type of Keyboard I’m looking for with very good Organ Patches and EP.The price today ( March 2020) is still 2,200 US$. I hope it will go down a little bit something around 1,800 US$.Waiting for the Sale this COVID Season.... OMG🤩😱🙄🙃
Edison Mirandilla that pretty expensive for an old keyboard.
Keith Emerson (RIP) would have dreamed of a machine like that! Very nice video btw.
Cheers! We do what we can...
Loving 'the lick' every now and again. Nice
Sweet Mother do the EPs and chorused pianos sound amazing on this
I like it. And to have a talented keyboardist with killer chops to demo it is the perfect icing on the cake.😎
This presenter is a very good player like Bob James. Less talking n more playing.. awesome buddy
This is 1000 dollars cheaper than the Nord Electro 5D 73 too. Amazing. And like the Nord, you can download sounds from Roland's Axial Library. Roland does it again!
Except that there does not appear to be any way to pull in sounds which use deep synth editing from multiple libraries, due to poor file-naming on Roland's part: every library uses the same filename, VRSYN001.DAT, so you can only have one on a USB stick at a time. Additionally, there is no way to move around the performance (UPG) and SYN.DAT components of a given sound together. This is very different from Nord and a serious short-coming from Roland.
RESPECT FOR KEYBOARD PLAYER! Honestly - this is intrument have a good key-touch!!! Nice design! Light Weight! For 2018-2019 quality of organ sound and emulation is not satisfayed! Piano & E.Piano sounds are cheap, sorry! Some synth sounds are good! In general if compare Roland VR-730 [2017] with Hammond SK1 73 [2011] - Hammond is much better. Roland please take in consideration Hammond is very good example how to make good instruments with good quality sound of organ, piano & e.piano! I'm shure if you will make good instrument, balanced, with sounds very close to original - people will buy! For me NORD is best instrument & example!
Wes Garland. Would you buy a Yamaha or a Roland? I'm confused.
No problem my friend. Buy cheaper and enjoy!!! If you will work on stage or studio this Roland no good, but is your choice
On Nord every sound like a record, is balanced and always sound good, and in live you can change sound instantly with very quality effects, is very flexible.
So talented! Killer chops!!! The VR-730 shines when a true keyboardist gets their hands on it! I think Roland did great with this, I hope they sell a ton! ;)
SynthgodXXX hey SynthgodXXX, do you know if the key size are the same as the VR09? The black keys I know are a little short like my Juno DS on VR09 but just wanted to know if 730 has regular size keys for how much they are selling it for? Thanks
Bloody good playing matey.......great roland product
I've been comparing the organ sound on this to the Hammond Xk 1c and actually laid hands on this axe in the music store. The organ dosent give you the tonal variety for creating all of the moods you would like to evoke in a church setting even with adjusting the drawbars, yet if you can only have one axe, the fact that you can go from Rhodes to acoustic piano makes this instrument one up on the Hammond. I was totally sold on picking up the Hammond until I saw this video, now I'm back to being undecided again. For what its worth, though some are very good and definitely usable in a live setting, I've still not yet heard any synth approximation that accurately captures the essence of the Hammond.
GREAT Demo!
Daaaamn my inner yacht rock lover is in love with your playing dude, so smooth
This guys has amazing chops.
Hyped at the idea of playing 73 semi-weighted waterfall keys w all the patches and effects laid out super simple.. This is a super keyboard made to excel in live performances. I need a real wah-pedal though. I like the V-autowah but I like the control of the real deal. Other than that ... Realtime B3 slides and the rotary effect runs stereo. Man. It sounds better than a BX3 and probably a third of the weight.
Very impressive, both the board and the player!
Roland doesn't make many new
keyboards with a metal frame.
The reason why I want this VR-730
is because of its quality build.
Made in China, if you go to a music store, look at the back panel, it is not made in the USA ot in Japan.
@@patricksaxon3983 so what? built quality is indicated by the geography? iphones are made in taiwan and china and indonesia etc
@@diom00 It could be built in America with same high quality, there is no reason to have electronics manufacturing in China or any country for cheap labor. I was an inspector to receive electronics components from China and I rejected many circuit boards due to low quality made in China.
@@patricksaxon3983 Man apple products are built in China. You get what you spend for.
Cool speaker system in the background !!
KILLER demo!!
I bought a VR-730 a few weeks ago mostly for the B3 emulation, but its EPs and synths are surprisingly stunning. Lot's of fun to be had with those! Basses and strings are superb as well, as is a GREAT distorted guitar patch (he demonstrates this at the 10:06 mark)
Acoustic pianos not so much. Yamaha is where you should go if you want the best piano samples/emulations. I personally think the effects options here are limited in what you can do with them and a bit lackluster in sound. Otherwise, this board is golden!
I also own one of these and would completely agree with your assessment. Organ (with a small bit of tweaking) is very good, EP's are very good (but I hope Roland add a few more of their integra 7/RD2000 EP patches some time soon - there are some excellent ones that aren't on the VR series at the moment). Acoustic piano is OK, but could be better. Synths and bass sounds were a pleasant surprise for me, as were some of the trumpet/sax sounds. The drum patterns just plain suck - forget about them being used beyond a glorified metronome for practicing (but you can just load your own backing track audio file on to USB stick anyway). Looper feature is really quite good and conducive to creativity. However, I'm a bit sad to say the FX side of things was a bit of a let down. They are completely OTT and digitally/synthetic sounding - not really what you want with vintage instrument sounds. Wish roland had just concentrated on a warm sounding tube drive type sound or simulating some classic amp set-ups.
Overall - a good feeling and sounding bit of kit capable of authentic sounds. Could have been a tad cheaper, but pretty good value. I'm sure this will be a very good solution to many of the working musicians needs.
Still rocking this man!!!
I'm late to the party but I really like the keyboard and will be getting one soon. This video is one of the better in depth demo vids on a keyboard. kudos
25 people didn't like this WTF! Superb keyboard skills and an arse kicking keyboard that will probably see me selling my beloved VR-09
German shepherd Lover Keeping my VR-09.
Are the sounds the same?
@@evankeal as far as I know they are
What a demo!! Wow!
I could listen to this guy jamming out for hours.
7:28 the lick
Benjamin Mjönes classic!
Also at 2:42
Definitely a good demonstration. Thinking of getting one if my VR-09 gives out on me. The only two setbacks are the price, which adds half of what I shelled out for the 09 and that they have not added the same vocal interface as on the Juno DS models.
Just imagine if I really wanted to burn a hole in my pocket. I would get one of each, a Juno and a 730.
You play very well sir...hats off to you...and you did roland good...ask for a raise.
What ??!!! Still rocking !!!!
this man swings!!
He has some serious chops
great choice on b-3 tone .... bought this today
This Guy Rocks!!
Excellent demo and bad-ass playing! Thanks!!
great demo - bought it today
I like that Roland VR-730 Keyboard got some sounds & drawbars
That's what sold me, that and the Hammond style springy semi-weight waterfall keys. This bad ass was designed for live performances 100%
Great player. Thank you!!
great keyboard
The organ is ok, but your playing technique is amazing!!!
Who is this guy ? He has a lot of soul !
Very Nice Cool Playing ! Roland VR all GOOD!
G'day Rudy, another excellent demo. Does it have combo organs, ie. Vox, and Farfisa? Now go have a cold one mate. lol
Love these things, I got to try a v-combo
I had always have had Roland . Does this new Roland have any Vibes sounds and Trumpet sounds and Saxophone sounds?
That intro, really awesome haha
Unbelievable How do you play. Coooooooool , Perrrrrrrfect
My next purchase for paradalusion productions!
Well played!!
great playing my friend but I just love some of these studio monitors behind you, especially the big brown one to the far left with the two large woofers and three tweeters, what is that one please ??
Glen B-)
This guy ROCKS!!
Credits !!!
isn't he swinging anymore?
I'll have one soon
This guy is amazin
This man is still rocking 😂
1:42 licccccc
OK, this is a keyboard with my name on it. I play in a blues-rock band and also a more traditional blues band. Often I am crammed into a corner of a small bar with my Hammond XK1, Korg Krome 73 and a bundle of FX. I hate setting up before a gig and breaking down afterwards. This keyboard has pretty much everything I need - great organ, super piano, a few pads and strings and such, all the FX - with the minimum of fuss... Guess what I shall be asking Santa ...
Ha! Same here. Dragging 2 or 3 boards to a low-paying gig is NO fun. One board to cover all the basics and a little more is what I need.
Dude.. U beastin!!
This man swings!!!
Please for the love of god Roland, add the feature to use the expression pedal as a wah control! Note to all buyers: this feature does not currently exist on the VR-09 OR VR 730
I was interested in this until you said that... dealbreaker
no big deal, you can buy a original wah for 50$ and the sound will be even better ..
A real oversight, but in my opinion, digital wah/LPF just isnt good enough, if you want to wah a digital keybaord, get a guitar pedal wah or a moogerfooger low pass filter
Throw a real wah in between the output and the amp. Problem solved.
Vilém Šáda that’s truth! Check out HAZ Laboratories Mu-Tron III+ Envelope Filter Pedal as well for that Stevie Wonder funky Clav magik!!!!
None of the demos I’ve seen have included pipe organ sounds. Does it have any. Sometimes you need more than just the B3 with Leslie. 🙂
7:28 cheeky
The guitar sound is crazy realistic
What's the name of that song?
This man is still swinging !!
1.17 to 1.50. What I wouldn't give to be able to play like that!!!!
Awesome player versatile ..groovy
Does it have PORTAMENTO function?
great playing but why skip the AP's. a lot of people have said they are weak.are they?
Amei o design!
Emanuel Victor O visual dele é show mesmo, bem vintage.
Great playing!! With the splits and Layers function is it still just 2 like the VR09 or have they upgraded?
Still just 2 zones... 8 zones would be good.
That distorsion is weird, to say the least. Otherwise, great board!
Is anyone here familiar with the Axial 'Cover Band Collection' that can be downloaded from Roland's website for the 730? How are the sounds? I can't find a demo of the Axial patches anywhere online. Kindly advise & many thanks.
Stephen Lennartz yes I have it it’s a total joke.
Thanks for your comment. In the 11th hour I ended up purchasing the new Yamaha MODX7. Super happy with it! I've been through a lot of keyboards over the years ... in general, can't go wrong with Yamaha or Roland. Thanks again.
7:29 you’re welcome
He plays that lick like 9 times in this video haha
Reply to comments ‘- difference from (VR-O9’ to VR-09 ‘ B - many more new sampled sounds’ added- more “PMC thus’ even better quality to final output etc’ , + more ! , on the “ B “ model ‘ you can find specifications on “Roland Chanel , cheers , & thanks for demo .
Wanna know what style of playing this is?? Funk? Jazz?
Where is the bass, backing, and drums coming from?
that thing looks and sounds sweet
i knwot htat its good yeah
Seriously great player, good sounds.
Synths and EPs sound pretty good. Good enough, certainly. Organ sounds leave a bit to be desired.
new piano sound?
Can it layer more than 3 sounds?
do u like the roland better than the nord 5D
I got a Roland VR-09 Combo organ, if I would had known that Roland was coming out with this model, I would had waited before getting my Hammond SK1-73 Stage Keyboard. I like the piano voices from my Hammond SK1-73 Stage Keyboard than my Roland VR-09 Combo Organ. But the organ preset sounds more fuller than the Hammond SK1, as I can add base notes are fuller when jamming on it. What is the difference between the VR-09 and the VR-09B?
The vr-09b is black
Hi, the 1' drawbar does not sound on its own, is that a normal feature ?
Yes, it's normal. If you turn on Percussion on an original Hammond B3, you automatically disable the 1' drawbar.
Are there speakers on the board ?
No.
8:43 "Accordions ... if you really want an accordion ...". That face! :D
Otherwise one of the best funky demos ever! :)
Yes! Not that it matters, but having accordeons actually makes more sense than having zillion of clavinet variations. Who plays clavinet these days besides a few funky tunes from the 70ties? Accordions on the other side are a folk instruments being played all around the world.
I am taking a VR-09 to a in two weeks where I will be playing accordion all night long! :D Last year I played the gig on a CP4...the VR-09 should work better.
The problem I see on Roland boards is that the sounds, especially the "extra sounds", are more quantity over quality. (played on F140 Digital Piano)
Anyone know if there's a new acoustic piano sample as well as electric pianos from the RD-2000? The original VR-09 piano patch isn't great and I don't think would cut it as a 'bottom board' piano sound, which kinda is the point of this keyboard.
"Electric pianos include a selection from the RD-2000".(Roland)
Great instrument. Very versatile.trying to decide between this and the Crumar Mojo 61, which is amazing!!!
Same boat, though also considering the YC61 or electro 5 or 6.
What the heck happened to 76 key keyboards? Everybody has switched to 73 now?
For most keyboards that center around Organ modeling/performance (though they have additional functionality, of course...) ESPECIALLY those with organ-like "waterfall" style keys...they typically go for the 73 key format. Most synthesizers or workstations will still go with the 76 key. Not all though, granted, they're becoming less common.
Good question - I’ve the VR-700 predecessor that was launched in 2010, which has 76 keys - and real drawbars...!
Dude, self-publish on Amazon. You need to let your inner groove out.
None of the keyboard demos cover the brass section much, if at all. Does anyone know how the brass ensemble patches are on this board? Does it have brass patches? Something you would use on stuff like "Hold On I'm Coming", "Soul Man", old funk stuff.
Rocco Fiero I built a patch using the Stack Tp/Tb sound layered in octaves for Hold On and it's passable in the same way most brass sounds are in a mix. Wouldn't choose it over the real thing for recording, obviously.
Brass patches are the same as all the rest of the synths in the mid-upper $ range. To me, nothing beats my Roland Rhodes D660 for brass sounds. Still have mine, over 30 years.
It's just downright weird how good this sounds **smh** lol
where the heck is that guitar sound?? I have been through every sound on this thing and I swear it is not there
This looks really cool, but imho the organ just doesn't seem to hold up to Nord's or Hammond's performance keyboards. Still a lot for the money though
Farfisa sound?
Can you layer and split
