  • Today we welcome Orin Davis to the podcast. Orin Davis earned the first doctorate in positive psychology, and is a self-actualization engineer who enables people to do and be their best. As the Principal Investigator of the Quality of Life Laboratory, he conducts research on flow, creativity, hypnosis, and mentoring. Dr. Davis consults for companies from startups to multinationals on hiring strategies, culture, innovation, and employee well-being. He is the author of Team Flow: The psychology of optimal collaboration.
In this episode, I talk to Orin Davis about the new science of flow. A lot of people are familiar with the concept of flow, but according to Dr. Davis, the experience of it is not very common. We discuss Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi’s work and how Dr. Davis is expanding the research of flow by studying it at a group level. He talks about how we can increase the chances of experiencing flow for both individuals and teams. We also touch on the topics of microflow, hypnosis, absorption, positive psychology, and self-actualization.

Very interesting. As a creative who has lived her life in flow ( meaning I do not go/slip in and out of it, but instead it’s always on) I have some thoughts on the subject. And yes, Scott, I am a positive Schizotypal. As I believe my great uncle was. (He called it tapping into the Universal mind) I personally feel it’s more like asking and receiving info- I can tell the more important/novel ideas by how my body feels. But all ideas feel good. Of course, it might all be my ‘magical thinking’😉
If you haven’t already, Dean Radin would be a good source of info to consider. 🧠🤯🥳

eg. what do you mean by “tell the more important/novel ideas by how my body feels”? what all kinds of novelty can you detect? any examples?

@@prayaanshmehta3200 Who are you, exactly? I don’t know if you are a real person or AI, a scam or something, I am happy to explain. But how, in this day and age, does one prove they have only good intentions? Of course, being Schizotypal I am very skeptical as a rule. But, I can tell you what I feel is the best way to get ideas flowing. Simply ask the Universe- loved ones who have passed- God- spirit guides, or random energies who would like to help with whatever you need, then let it go. Got to let it go to flow…At least that’s how it works for me. Forcing it blocks the flow (causing interference) As for giving you an example? Not sure what you are looking for. Could you be more specific? By novel I mean, putting together things that one wouldn’t think goes together. Or for example, wondering why Bill Gates would put money into ‘carbon capture plants’ which cost $$$ to build, run, etc. while using energy and water resources, when Mother Nature already has the perfect carbon capture plant in Hemp, which instead of costing $$$, is a money maker. A plant that every bit of it is usable. Needs little water to grow, is pest resistant, so no need for pesticides. And is used in over 25,000 products and counting… But that’s not innovation, that’s just common sense.

What a wonderful episode, Scott! I found that one interesting assumption is that in order to optimize our lives, these “interstitial” periods should be tapped for greater productivity or at least utility. Aren’t our brains better optimized by rest, even sleep? It’s possible that this unstructured pause could itself be performance enhancing. 😀

Now, I have a few questions for you. Where did you get this timeline? Did you create this on your own? If so, why? Are you AI, simply curious, or already understand flow to an extent? While listening to this podcast, my first instinct was to create a similar timeline, but let the thought flow on through and didn’t act on it. If I had, you wouldn’t have. Depending on if you are a scam or AI, or an actual human, will help me with perspective. 🧐

Also; did I happen to mention, Schizotypal’s are very gullible?

@@SchizoCrankyCrafter hey, i’m a human being here and i created this on my own. i love playing with ideas and doing this to the content i listen to helps me build onto what i already know and don’t know. i do understand flow, but i guess not that deeply and wanting to understand more with whatever resources i can get. chances are if you had made a timeline, i would have still made my own, i find comments awesome for notetaking.
