So many of the flaming lips songs, like 'do you realize', are so profoundly sad yet somehow incredibly reassuring. Its an intense feeling I don't think any other music I've listened to really captures in the same way.
Wayne Coyne is the Jeff Goldblum of music and I mean that in the most loving way. Maybe it’s a Pittsburgh thing. I realize Jeff Goldblum is a musician and is therefore the true Jeff Goldblum of music.
It's cool to think that Wayne made "Yoshimi Battles The Pink Robots Pt. 1" simply thinking about someone actually battling a robot. But everyone took it to such another psychological level. It really shows just how genius this band is.
I think that often happens with music lyrics; they can mean many things at the same time and for different people, and many interpretations are acceptable. The vagueness of many lyrics allows for that, I think. Also I think it was Thom Yorke who said sometimes his lyrics are interpreted by people in different ways than what he meant explicitly, but he finds them acceptable interpretations because he might have been meaning other things subconsciously, you know
This album feels like the musical equivalent to antidepressants to me. It helped me through very dark times, and it's so simple, layered, reassuring, pink, comfortable, weird music. I love it.
Flaming Lips at Bonnaroo changed my perception of live music performances and i was already really deep into jambands, etc. It was a magical place that only the Lips could pull off. Thank you for you!
@ 6:32 amazing to see him express this very profound truth... He is part musician and magician who gets to play his life away in a beautiful dance with the universe... And we get to watch ..
It occurs to me I've never once listened to a Wayne Coyne interview. Yoshimi Battles The Pink Robots totally changed my reality, listening to it on 2 grams of mushrooms(In The Morning of the Magicians being particularly powerful). Just like, damn. A true psychedelic masterpiece directly from Oklahoma City's own? I think its great. Thanks,Wayne. From the year 2024(i realize this is an old video) Edit: i didnt realize Wayne was born in Pittsburg, but i think Oklahoma might still consider him a favorite son
I've been lucky enough to see them live 3 times, and I'm not exaggerating when I say, experiencing Yoshimi and Do you realise live is as close to a religious experience as I'll ever have.
Who is Yoshimi? And who are the evil-natured robots? And what are the vitamins? Nothing really. But wow, you can metaphor chase all day! Love this song. Love these guys.
It makes me really happy that Wayne found success in the Flaming Lips. I can't imagine him surviving in the real world. It would have been such a waste
Wayne didn’t even graduate high school and worked menial jobs for a long minute busting his ass before the Lips. Not to mention he got a gun stuck to the side of his head and robbed after a long shift at said working class job. I think he’s just fine out in the “real world”. Oh, did I mention what his older brothers are like…..
What??? Half decent what do you think is so great by them I'm curious? And you don't think War, embryonic, the terror, all their experimental and cover band albums are what not good. I challenge your musical criteria.
@@joker-mo8cb LIPS were my 2nd favorite band. I started to lose interest when they turned into a bunch of sappy shits. Back in the day before Bulletin they were a real rock n roll band. Now they are just too cute
@@MENFUSSMIKE yeah come talk to me after you listen to embryonic, the terror, 7 skies high, strobo trip, even their as you call it sappy shit is still really good music. I mean to each their own but you need to listen to the albums I just mentioned and you will be like holy shit that's far from fucking cutsey. It's really kind of dark and very serious shit. And a song like waiting for Superman is one of the most amazing beautiful songs ever.
The world is a better place thanks to the flaming lips.
I had no idea that wayne painted that cover. My appreciation for him has improved!!!
Me too that is amazing!
One of my all time favorite album covers. So good.
He’s a great visual artist.

Case in point, My Cosmic Autumn Rebellion....so stuck on that one right now
A lot like Radiohead. Listen to Let Down and No Surprises.
car seat headrest lol
its optimistic without being unrealistic or too saccharine. things arent gonna be alright in the end - but thats alright
It’s Summertime has this effect on me greatly

lol it really is, even if it wasn’t in the title I think we’d still describe it as “pink”

every interview this guy just cements why he is one of the coolest to ever do it.
I am always in love with Wayne Coyne.
Gluing sequins to your face looks nicer than tattoos
birsay123 evidently so. I wonder if they make them glow-in-the-dark
A lot less forever, too
Yeess, Birsay123!!!!!! I agreee!
And way, way, more original and interesting than dime-a-dozen tattoos.
This record saved my life
Great interview! That's awesome that they enjoy playing songs that people really like even after hundreds of performances.
What an eccentric but fascinating guy
Wayne not only gives insight; He also gives us all Optimism! I love The Flaming Lips! 😊
What a good guy. Fantastic band.
Such a nice and interesting chap, just like I thought he would be....
Morning of the magicians.....beautiful

Go see them. You won't regret it!
What Aimee said....it's unforgettable
Their live show to me was like if Willy Wonka had a band and went on tour!!!🍄🌂🦄🎩⚡️🎉❤️🍭🍬🍫💥🤘
The 2 shows I went to during the Yoshimi & Mystics eras will both forever be in my top 5 concert experiences
❤so enjoyed them in concert

only a lovely mad hatter-ish artist would make such awesome music + wear bedazzled stickers paired with a bowtie so simply tied. love him! 💗

The most beautiful album ever
This is a great album. Love the spacey guitar sounds in some of these songs, reminds me of Pink Floyd and David Bowie.
Wayne Coyne is a real life Mad Hatter

Yoshimi is amazing!!!
To me, it really feels like a continuation, a logical continuation to soft bulletin, and then "at war" was a huge departure...
They're certainly together an epic trilogy.
I think American Head is the the third album in the trilogy with Soft Bulletin and Yoshimi
It is a magic song .... other worldly
True artist!
Luv him
I prefer the 90s era Lips, but Wayne himself is awesome in any era. Long live Wayne
Awesome album.. it totally worked!!!
I just realised Wayne Coyne is a Platonist. Good times.
He resembles an older Mark bolan ! ....especially with that
Lovely pink shirt. He's magnificent.
lovely
love this album
Great album ❤
I have long appreciated the wisdom of “Momento Mori”, but the powerful twist here is externalizing to all of humanity.
this is so cool
Wayne is THE COOLEST man on Planet Earth. Right?!?
awesome

why cant it be both ? sex fighting a robot sounds kinky

I don't take anything Wayne says seriously when he got them bedazzles on lol
agree to disagree. it makes me appreciate him as an artist even more!
If he was pulling my leg I'd toss my arm upward. But I actually believe all this. So I won't.

The Grammys have no correlation with musical talent, there should be no pride felt by the Grammys recognizing you.
