    Nice video! I always loved trains. The summer of 70 my Dad treated me and Mom to a first class train trip from San Diego to Iowa to see relatives. Dad specifically wanted me to experience the whole train ride thing because he was afraid the next year all passenger trains were becoming the new Amtrak Govt run deal and most people thought that the glory days of passenger trains was coming to an end. So, we left San Diego on the old local SD/LA Santa Fe passenger train to Union Station where we connected to our Union Pacific train and our nice compartment then off to Iowa on whatever that route was back then which was actually a LA to Chicago route that stopped in the lower part of Iowa. Well anyway it was the trip of a lifetime for this 11yo boy at.the time. I remember eating in the nice diner car with Mom as it traveled across the desert which was blowing up dust devils all over. It was all so first class I even learned what finger bowls were LOL! For those who don't know they're little ceramic china bowls of water to clean fingers. I remember me and Ma sitting up in the dome car late at night watch the engine's headlight hit against the mountains. It was one of the nicest things Dad ever did. 😊

    Great video...thanks for posting. My mother's house in SW La is 100 feet from the former Southern Pacific
    Sunset Route. Grew up watching the Amtrack Sunset Limited go by our house. When I go check on her, I still wait to see the Sunset Limited go by and wave to the passengers.

    Your video is fantastic. It is just like being on the train. We don't need commentary just the subtitles you provide. Your video is the best Amtrak vid I have seen. I hope the rest are as good. Well done my man.

    I just discovered your videos and have been watching all week. I'm going one station per evening. I love it! I just did this train trip (from Chicago to Emeryville) a month ago and spent most of the time staring out the window - love to watch the scenery go by and follow along on a map. For this video I followed along with Google Maps and Bing Maps - they each have different strengths. I also want to tell you that I am impressed with the detail that you included with the pop ups. Even small villages were mentioned and that really helps in following along. I'm looking forward to watching the rest!

    Well mate, this one seriously great video. I drive Amtrak Locos in Train Simulator, and have the Donner Pass scenario which goes from Roseville CA all the way to Sparks NV. But its just not quite like the real thing, but hope to do it in the not too distant future.
    As for your heavy breathing bit. Well, its something you can't help, and so its understandable. With regard to the commentary part... Well, yeah - nah; just dunno about that bit.
    Gave it a like, mostly because its really interesting to watch. Sometimes beats TV any day of the week. So cheers and have a good one.

    Looks like this trip was done before Amtrak imposed its mask mandate during the pandemic. My husband & I are planning to do a round trip (both directions) on the CZ next year (when we'll both be eligible for Amtrak's senior discount). We just signed up for Amtrak Guest Rewards, so we can get emails when Amtrak runs sales.
    How close to on-time was the CZ when it arrived in Chicago on your trip? We'll need to catch an Illinois Service train to get home when we return to Chicago, and we've heard plenty of warnings against making tight connections involving a long-distance train, because they so often run late. (I used to ride the Empire Builder to and from college back in the day, and it would consistently run 3 hours late!)

    • @ushwy395
      @ushwy395  2 года назад +1

      As best as i can remember the train started out late but made up time along the way so it ended up being fairly on time. This trip was in 2018. I heard this train can run pretty late sometimes. I rent a car at the Amtrak station in Chicago as it is cheaper than the airport and is open until 7pm on the week days. Does the Illinois service train leave at different times? If not how much of a time window do you have? It seems to me like it should be ok but I would definitely have a plan B. Great scenery. Have a great trip.

    • @DOSBoxMom
      @DOSBoxMom 2 года назад +1

      @@ushwy395 The Illinois Service has several trains; however, the latest one which stops in my hometown leaves at approx. 6:45PM (and it's the only one stopping in my hometown which leaves after the eastbound CZ arrives in Chicago). There are other Illinois Service trains which skip my hometown, but do stop in towns either N or S of my hometown; I'll have to check the Illinois Service timetables to see if one of those would work in a pinch.

    How come we never hear the defect detector's conclusion? We hear it announce itself, but then never hear about "No defects", axle count, temperature, train speed, "detector out" or anything else it broadcasts. I'd find that information interesting.
