I got on at Reno and rode all the way to Chicago, in the beginning of November.... and in coach, but regardless of the cramped sleeping (I'm 73 inches tall), it was still the adventure of my life and I definitely plan on doing it again, but next time it will be start to finish and in the winter time, and definitely a roomette!
March of '18, you say. A few changes I'm sure since. The Rail City Casino now has a video message board. @15:35 when the Estes logo lines up with the yellow sign (Jack's Cafe which was in the movie "Hard Eight") my place was about a block further north. One thing has caught my interest since riding the Red Cars back in the day is the area on either side of the tracks in any town. Like it's own ecosystem, it's everyone's back yard or the far end of the company lot.
One of the things I've noticed is the harshness of the Nevada desert. It reminded me of the harshness of the Nullarbor Planes of Western Australia. The huge difference is that the Nullarbor Plains is as flat as a pancake (as in no hills and etc) and all you see is horizon. The good thing about this part of the journey, its not flat as a pancake. Talking about that, if you are really feeling adventurous, I recommend you travel on the Indian Pacific train, which is a four day journey from Sydney, NSW to Perth, WA (as in Western Australia).
Have property in Golconda, just east of Winnemucca. Nice place to relax is Water Canyon. Views from Winnemucca Mtn are great, especially at night! Looking down at the city. We see the trains to the north going by The Humboldt river..
Your videos are awesome! Interesting and relaxing. A train ride as it really is. Do you know, why this train makes an unscheduled stop at Sparks? I thougt, this station is closed. There was also a stop at Suisun-Fairfield in Part 1. Crazy.
Thank you for the feedback. I'm not sure but I think the train stopped at sparks to pick up some railroad workers. As for Suisun-Fairfield, the train made extra stops for another train that was involved in an accident that day.
I miss when the Reno stop was at street level, offering nice views of the Biggest Little City in the World sign. They trenched it, and views are few and far between.
10:45 Leaving Reno
18:30 Arriving at Sparks
21:00 Leaving Sparks

Great travelogue, straight forward scenery, minimum commentary. Good Job!
Thanks for the nice feedback.
@@ushwy395 No Problem, your moniker is my favorite highway, I have traveled it many times along the High Sierra.

@@ushwy395 Oh okay. Thank you for the information. Part 3 from Winnemucca to Salt Lake City is very relaxing.
I am still watching through Nevada. So glad I found these videos.
How’s the ride?
It was nice and smooth. Good view for a sunset.
Harshness is about, but in special
Places, trees, water, Antelope abound. And Mormon crickets !
Iam so glad that we got stare at the cement wall for the first 10 min of the video.
This is a full ride video as is. I did update the comments so people could skip ahead. Thanks for the feedback.

I agree
What month/year was this taken in? I can tell that this was definitely before COVID
March 2018
The odd commentary would greatly enrich the video. Also stating the speed every so often. More information on the towns being passed.
