Hi! Do you feed your turtle just pellets? I was told that was too high in protein and could cause pyramiding. I have a turtle myself and have been doing some of my own research. I may think some of your facts are wrong. Turtles need lots of veggies. I don’t know about your turtle types needs but, red ear sliders do need veggies. Maybe the next time you do a video like this add the veggies part? And please mention live food little bit more! This is giving the impression that turtles only need a pellet diet. Which is wrong. :(
Yes! They absolutely need veggies. I offer my painted romaine and red leaf lettuce (although he doesn't really eat it). Diamondback terrapins are more carnivorous, and mine is a juvenile at that, so I haven't started him on veggies yet (though he has tried a little duckweed). And as for live foods, I've actually done several videos on the topic, but I'll be sure to be more clear next time 😄 I appreciate your feedback!

All your videos are amazing! We just got an albino red eared turtle for Christmas and I am trying to educate myself on care. How often do we feed a baby red eared slider? And how often clean tank? Also, after we clean the tank so we need a new calcium tablet? Thank you 😊
Hi guys 🙌🙌 I recently bought a red eared slider and I read that we are supposed to feed baby sliders food everyday but also to be careful not to overfeed (protein/calories) them as that can lead to pyramiding of the shell or turtle obesity. Hi, hope your turtle is doing well. About how big is it now? I find my baby turtle does best with pellets daily, and a few treat mealworms or shrimps occasionally. Baby turtles are normally more carnivorous so it’s okay if that’s what they prefer. You can still offer veggies. Hope this helps!

I might be muddling all the research I've been doing, but I'm getting the impression I should feed veggies on a separate schedule from pellets? I would feed my adult yellow bellied slider 3 times a week or so the amount of pellets the size of his head, but every day offer him greens? Or should I include the greens in the 3 feedings a week?
I just saw long white poop that came from my red earred slider. What is it and do I need to take her to the vet. Have had her for a year and haven’t seen this before
Sooo... I have a yellow belly slider, her shell is 6" in length her age is unknown. Would it make sence to feed her veggies daily and reptomin pellets 3x a week? The pellet directions say you should feed 2x a day? I'm sooo confused 😩. I did change her off of the "growth formula" which seemed to cause her to start pyramiding. 😬 any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated, I want my turtle to be healthy.

HI i have a baby red eared slider Should i feed its food at a time or can i give it three times a day keeping the quantitiy same i.e. his head's space?
I feed my turtles 1 time a day like 2 for one and 2 for the other but when I got of vacation for 3 days I feed them like 8 or 12 pealets and then they still hungry and they eat half of a fish
So im getting a baby turtle and we are keeping some live plants. If my turtle is eating plants should i be feeding them less or keep the same amount of pellets/ shrimp/worms or whatever theyre eating ?
Thanks Maria! An adult turtle is one that is a) sexually mature and b) no longer growing physically. Typically they become sexually mature pretty early, I want to say around a year, but don't quote me since that is off of the top of my head! Usually, they stop growing anywhere between 1 1/2 years and 3 years. But certain species grow slower than others etc.
So... I've had my baby turtle (RES) for almost a whole year now... and I'm pretty sure turtles are supposed to grow a little bigger after a year, but my turtle hasn't grown. I sometimes feed her pellets and some turtle diet food or whatever, and I've been feeding her some dried up baby shrimp and krill. What do I need to feed her in order for her to grow?? I know she needs more protein, for sure, but what are the best foods for turtles with protein????
for adults, could you just feed them daily but at 1/3 the amount you would feed according to your system? if you divided the feeding by the amount of days it's the same quantity of food, but in intervals. will that keep them healthy?
Besides the homemade basking container, where do you like to buy your basking docks? I have a Yellow belly slider that's a year and a half named Squirtle😊
I have inherited my daughters turtle who is a little guy. I feed him every other or third day and on the second day of no feeding I give him a small amount of lettuce. Is this OK. I feed him dried shrimp and these green turtle dried little stringy things. I am not sure exactly what kind of turtle he is however he was purchased at the boardwalk at Daytona Beech four years ago.
I have a juvenile res turtle lil over a year long I still feed her everyday because she destroys the tank looking for crumbs in the rocks. She’s 7” long and eats maybe 35 pellets in 15mins
Hiya, we bought our red ear slider when he was very young and tiny. We’ve had him for 2 months (in about a week) and he’s growing really really quick!! He seems to want to eat ALL the time. We feed him about 20 tiny pieces of food 3 times a day but after watching this I think it’s too much? Would appreciate any advice!!
Hi great videos I recently got a baby turtle he is a stinkpot and he's super tiny I feed him like about the size of his head but he seems to eat some but leaves some behind should I feed him less and if so how many days should I feed my baby turtle?
Hi The Turtle Girl! I first wanted to say that your videos are helping me so much! I have never owned a turtle but am setting up a tank for a baby Razorback Musk. I feel prepared after watching yours and some other RUclipsrs videos. So I was wandering if being on vacation for a week still applies for hatchlings or younger turtles? You said that you have left for a week before but would that still apply for my baby Musk? The thing I am most worried about is that I won't feed my turtle enough or I will feed him to much, so I was wandering if anyone can tell me if this feeding schedule for a Musk hatchling woukd be fine Sunday: 1 Tsp Pellets, Some Lettuce Monday: 1 Tsp Pellets, a few Mealworms Tuesday: 1 Tsp Pellets, Some Lettuce Wedensday: 1 Tsp Pellets, Some dried Crickets Thursday: 1 Tsp Pellets, Some Lettuce Friday: 1 Tsp Pellets, Some Dried Shrimp Saturday: 1 Tsp Pellets Do you think that would be to much food or is that enough? I was also thinking that 1 or 2 Saturdays a month I would go to the pet store and buy 1 or 2 Misquito Fish or something as live feeders.
Hey Sofia! That schedule looks perfect for a baby. Also i wouldn't worry if your baby doesn't eat the lettuce, since they sometimes won't eat it as hatchlings. if you could get someone to come over halfway through the week to check on the turtle and feed him, that would be best....adults would be fine, but with a baby i wouldn't want to leave them unattended for that long.
Natural sunlight is always best. I take mine out for 45mins a few times a week. I started this when I first got him since I didn't have the lights in his tank just yet. But now I still do it cause I feel it's healthy.
Could you please help me, I have a genuine problem:- I have a red eared slider who is 3 years old. He is very small in size for his age (idk why) . I feed him turtle food which comes in the form of sticks. I feed him 3 times a day ( about 6-7 sticks each time) . He keeps eating as much as I keep giving, and always begs. Am I overfeeding him?? Cause lately I have noticed he has started to put on a lot of weight. We keep him in a box ( made for turtles) and I rearly take him out( like once in 3-4 days). I don't understand what to do! Could you please please help me.?🙏🙏
Hi Turtle Girl, I have been feeding my Yellow Belly Hatchling that is 2 months old 13 baby repto pellets in the morning and then 13 baby pellets in the night Every day.... Then, every few days i add turtle dried shrimp treats mixed in with the pellets... My turtle seems to be very hungry so I am wondering if I am feeding it too much? I am feeding twice a day a total of 26 pellets 13 in morning and then 12 hours later at night another 13 and he eats all of them within 3 minutes is what the directions say on container.. Am i feeding him too much? Please help. Thanks

I was thinking about letting him go because I could never get him full.. lol thanks for the info its a good thing iv only had him a week. hes eaton over 100 earth worms already..
Hey I know I'm late to this a video. But Can you over feed your turtle. Or can a turtle be greedy about food and just wants to keep eating can this harm my babies. Please help
They sale automatic turtle feeders maybe you can look into it, so you could have one when you go on a vacation . I seen them at Walmart and online. I'm thinking of getting one when I go on vacation this summer. Love your videos 💗💗🐢🐢🐢🐢❤
My turtle is about 3 inches so he's somewhat a juvenile I guess you could say... I just got him and I'm not sure on the amount I feed him. I give him at least 8 pellets in the morning and a little snack like veggies, fruit, dried shrimp or worms on the afternoon with 3 pellets.. is that okay?
What do turtles do in the wild? Do they eat every other day and do they only eat the amount you recommend? Or, because they have an abundance of area to swim/ travel would they be okay eating daily? My turtles just turned 1 year and I've been feeding them daily, should I start feeding them every other day right away? All four of mine look great and are going through losing their scutes. ( I wish they could stay little, they're so cute as babies)
I love all your videos, I have always wanted a turtle. I am finally getting one after 15 years of wanting one, all your videos have helped me. I'm looking into getting a mini dwarf red eared slider- because they're on the tiny side and I have limited space and I just think they're so adorable. Is a ten gallon tank big enough for one or two of these? And do you have any vids about mini dwarf red eared sliders? I've been watching a few of your basic vids already and have learned a lot- like the 10 gallons to 1 inch of shell suggestion/rule of thumb. Any info you could give about mini dwarf red eared sliders and specifically their care/environment/feeding/handling would be greatly appreciated. Thank you so much in advance.

How do I know when they reach “mature” age and I can start feeding them every 3 days? My turtles’ shells are about 4 inches long, and the previous owner said they are 4 years old.
I would say that is mature :) it's really based on your own observations of growth and how much they seem to be eating. And keep in mind you can also feed veggies to offer on the "days off"
Can u please tell me how to feed my res vegetables..he is 2 yrs now n he resists veggies..i have tried everything..stil he doesnt eat veggies ..just pellets n live foods.
I've been feeding my baby brazilian red-eared turtles dried river shrimp, and twice a day. Is that too much? I'm a turtle beginner (lol) and I just discovered your extremely helpful videos. Thanks!
I would try some pellets for a more balanced diet especially since he's a baby. I fed my baby red earred slidder zoo med hatchling turtle starting food. And he's done well with it.
i have 4 northen dbts.. 1 2015, 2 2016, 1 2017... all live together and eat together too... i feed mine properly every two to three days (sometimes i forget or lazy ehh whatever) giving them fish or shrimp mixed with calcium and vitamins..and then every day (even few times a day) i throw in few pellets (few like 10 ish). if they want they eat, if they dont fish will, if they dont.. well filter will sort that out. how much you should feed your turtles doesnt really matter once they get something to eat once a while...what they do in the wild.. look for food everyday, nibble here and there (that why i throw in few pallets everyday) and once in a while they catch or find huge meal and get full..does every 2-4 days giving them a full nutrition meal. direction from people compared to the wild is always wrong...
And that's totally fair Mikey! Occasionally I do the same thing, but I've just found that having a schedule keeps me consistent and actively engaged with caring for the turtles. Plus most people prefer to have just a general guideline or outline to fall back on or draw from. Thanks for sharing your opinions! 💙
I have a problem feeding my turtle. I just got a baby red eared slider turtle three days ago. I just got his tank and the other necessities such as the lights, basking area, heater, and filter. The problem is he wont eat. He hasnt eaten anything the past three days and I'm really worried. How do i get him to eat?
Hey Jake! Typically, most turtles won't actually eat after your first get them. This is simply because they are stressed from the change of environment. I would give it two weeks before your start worrying, they can go quite long without eating. Once they realize there is nothing to be afraid of, they'll be constantly begging ;)

Hello, I have a baby turtle and I am going to travel for a week. Can she go this long without eating ???
No wt
Your so informative love ur insight
HI
i have a baby red eared slider
Should i feed its food at a time or can i give it three times a day keeping the quantitiy same i.e. his head's space?
I would do it all at once for the sake of not stressing out the turtle multiple times and also convenience ;)
thank you very much :)
I feed my turtles 1 time a day like 2 for one and 2 for the other but when I got of vacation for 3 days I feed them like 8 or 12 pealets and then they still hungry and they eat half of a fish
Thanks for the info!
Love the turtle swimming behind
haha always!
THANK YOU THANK YOUUUU, I looked it up and I couldn’t find anything. This helped a lot.
Same!
So im getting a baby turtle and we are keeping some live plants. If my turtle is eating plants should i be feeding them less or keep the same amount of pellets/ shrimp/worms or whatever theyre eating ?
Love your videos, always so helpful. One question, how old does a 🐢 have to be, to be considered an adult?
Thanks Maria! An adult turtle is one that is a) sexually mature and b) no longer growing physically. Typically they become sexually mature pretty early, I want to say around a year, but don't quote me since that is off of the top of my head! Usually, they stop growing anywhere between 1 1/2 years and 3 years. But certain species grow slower than others etc.
Thank you I’m definitely thinking about getting me a turtle 👍🏾
I have a baby painted turtle & to keep the tank cleaner I take him out of the tank when he eats. Saves on cleaning the tank sooo much more.
yup! it's a very helpful trick!
My fiancé just adopted a malnourished turtle that had no UVB which is essential for them and since he’s had one he’s grown quite a bit!
Thank you so much this helped me so . Thank you I wanna thank you again!!
for adults, could you just feed them daily but at 1/3 the amount you would feed according to your system? if you divided the feeding by the amount of days it's the same quantity of food, but in intervals. will that keep them healthy?
Besides the homemade basking container, where do you like to buy your basking docks? I have a Yellow belly slider that's a year and a half named Squirtle😊
I have inherited my daughters turtle who is a little guy. I feed him every other or third day and on the second day of no feeding I give him a small amount of lettuce. Is this OK. I feed him dried shrimp and these green turtle dried little stringy things. I am not sure exactly what kind of turtle he is however he was purchased at the boardwalk at Daytona Beech four years ago.
i love the turtle at the backround hehe
I have a juvenile res turtle lil over a year long I still feed her everyday because she destroys the tank looking for crumbs in the rocks. She’s 7” long and eats maybe 35 pellets in 15mins
Thank you. That's what i needed. Woo!
Food loves me and I love it too. Lol great advice! Great information! Great video!!!!
LOL thank you so much! You're so sweet
Hi great videos I recently got a baby turtle he is a stinkpot and he's super tiny I feed him like about the size of his head but he seems to eat some but leaves some behind should I feed him less and if so how many days should I feed my baby turtle?
I have a red ear turtle that is like 10 yrs old. Should I still feed her ever 2 days?
Yes💀💀😭
Hi The Turtle Girl! I first wanted to say that your videos are helping me so much! I have never owned a turtle but am setting up a tank for a baby Razorback Musk. I feel prepared after watching yours and some other RUclipsrs videos. So I was wandering if being on vacation for a week still applies for hatchlings or younger turtles? You said that you have left for a week before but would that still apply for my baby Musk? The thing I am most worried about is that I won't feed my turtle enough or I will feed him to much, so I was wandering if anyone can tell me if this feeding schedule for a Musk hatchling woukd be fine
Sunday: 1 Tsp Pellets, Some Lettuce
Monday: 1 Tsp Pellets, a few Mealworms
Tuesday: 1 Tsp Pellets, Some Lettuce
Wedensday: 1 Tsp Pellets, Some dried Crickets
Thursday: 1 Tsp Pellets, Some Lettuce
Friday: 1 Tsp Pellets, Some Dried Shrimp
Saturday: 1 Tsp Pellets
Do you think that would be to much food or is that enough? I was also thinking that 1 or 2 Saturdays a month I would go to the pet store and buy 1 or 2 Misquito Fish or something as live feeders.
Hey Sofia! That schedule looks perfect for a baby. Also i wouldn't worry if your baby doesn't eat the lettuce, since they sometimes won't eat it as hatchlings. if you could get someone to come over halfway through the week to check on the turtle and feed him, that would be best....adults would be fine, but with a baby i wouldn't want to leave them unattended for that long.
Love your videos very helpful like always 😊
Thanks Julie!
Why does this video have dislikes😂
honestly idk! lol
Lmao, they may be shrimps.
Or maybe triggered turtles that want their owners to keep feeding them
Because if she breaths, SHE A..
@@dankmeee2730 whitch because she knows stuff even tho women are most definitely smart
is it okay to feed a 2 years old razorback mask 4 times a week with 3 times mazuri and 1 time guppy?
Yea shuld be fine, however do mor research just in case as i keep diamond back terrapins and painted.
Hi. Can you please tell me if I can take my turtle out of her tank everyday to put her outside where she can get sunlight.
Natural sunlight is always best. I take mine out for 45mins a few times a week. I started this when I first got him since I didn't have the lights in his tank just yet. But now I still do it cause I feel it's healthy.
Ik im l8 but just fyi its always best to do so, In summer I take the entire tub outside for it to absorb sunlight
Could you please help me, I have a genuine problem:-
I have a red eared slider who is 3 years old.
Thanks

I have a... about 6 year old yellow belly 🐢& have been feeding her Mon Wed Friday & Saturday the round pellets & on Tues Thursday Sunday the sticks along with some dried shrimp...should I now this later in her life change up the feeding schedule as per your video? 🐢 Or will the feeding schedule I have going on now hurt 🐢?
Oh my god I have been feeding my newly found gluton baby midland painted turtle three times a day and way too much each time.. I was thinking about letting him go because I could never get him full.. lol thanks for the info its a good thing iv only had him a week. hes eaton over 100 earth worms already..
Hey I know I'm late to this a video. But
Can you over feed your turtle.
Definitely Rosalinda! I actually have used one before ;)
Does it matter what kind /brand of pellets you feed? I just feed reptomin brand floating sticks?
What about greens? Do you just feed pellets?
Excuse me, I don't understand very much in English , but I feed my turtle wild with vegetables 3 times a day his age 1-2 years old , is that ok??
Explains why i fed my RES yesterday and she devoured it but havent touched her pellets today!
I love all your videos, I have always wanted a turtle. I am finally getting one after 15 years of wanting one, all your videos have helped me. I am getting a African sideneck turtle so excited can’t wait doing a lot of research before he comes in two weeks. Keep up the good work, thanks for your help.
How exciting! Best of luck!
I have a Mississippi map turtle and I got him in January, but idk how old he was when I got him.. Can anyone help me? He was around 4 cm and I'm preety sure he is a male
i feed my turtle 2 a day early in the morning when she starts to beg to turn her light on and than i feed her after nine at night but based on your knowledge i dont need to feed it so much but i still dont know the gender clearly
Sara K this will results in overfeeding your turtle. Turtle will always beg for food even they are full. U only need to feed them once in 2-3 days. Just look at the claws, male is longer
I presently have 4 turtles all of different ages. Do u recommend that they be kept in the same container? I have a very large container pond.
i have a baby turtle and i am trying to figure out how often do i feed my hatching turtle? should i feed her once a day or twice a day? i only feed her in the morning, however i leave kale in the tank .
Good advice. I try to explain to my friend he shouldn’t be feeding his turtles so much food.
I got 4 baby turtles, how much should i fed them a day or a week with dried shrimp ?
I'm not sure how old my turtles are . I got them from a neighbor. He said he feed them every night. So I should feed them?
How do I know when they reach “mature” age and I can start feeding them every 3 days? My turtles’ shells are about 4 inches long, and the previous owner said they are 4 years old.
I would say that is mature :) it's really based on your own observations of growth and how much they seem to be eating. And keep in mind you can also feed veggies to offer on the "days off"
Can u please tell me how to feed my res vegetables..he is 2 yrs now n he resists veggies..i have tried everything..stil he doesnt eat veggies ..just pellets n live foods.
Your videos have more information than Google search..
So how much should I feed a 5 month old yellow bellied slider?
Hi what time would u feed it at like does it matter and if its a musk turtle do these rules still apply
Thanks for the help. I'll wait and see what happens.
