- The NBA MVP award is only for those who are the best of the best. It's not always given to the player whose currently the best in the world, but who contributes most to their team, makes an impact upon the league, and is without question the biggest difference maker. Some would believe that these 12 guys should've been named the #1 in all of those categories, but unfortunately they never officially claimed that spot.

I can not believe the disrespect that John Havlicek gets. He averaged 29, 9, and 7 for a season, as well as winning 8 rings and being the all-time leading scorer for arguably the greatest sports franchise of all time.

John Stockton? Dude averaged 16 points 13-14 assists while shooting over 50% FG with almost 3 steals for 8 straight seasons (also playing 82 games all but 1 year (78)). I know Karl won it twice, but he should've been mentioned.

The 16 points is why he never won one. That's my biggest knock on Stockton...he wasn't aggressive enough offensively for a guy who could shoot so well. He even said himself that he regretted not being more aggressive offensively. It especially hurt them in the finals. They didn't have much on offense, and Malone had to do most of the scoring

He leads the NBA for all time assists and steals and those records will NEVER be broken, yet he gets disrespected left and right. What did CP3 and J. Kid do that he didn't? - He was in the all-NBA 1st or 2nd team seven times, at a time when they strictly chose positionally. (Versus say, 5 times for Kahwi when there are two spots for forwards, or the same times for Howard who peaked when there were no other dominant centers)
- He was in the top 5 MVP voting 6 times. (Vs three times for Kahwi, 5 times for Paul or 4 times for Howard)

John Stockton (perhaps with the exception of Magic) was the greatest PG to ever play the game. You could make the case that it was Magic, but Magic played more than one position.

I’m not a AD or Giannis fan but I can’t believe people are saying this… no way in hell is AD better than Giannis, that’s absolutely ridiculous.
In no world should Isaiah Thomas have won MVP when prime Magic Johnson or Michael Jordan were playing during the same time. 19 ppg and 8 apg is not going to cut it, when Magic is having equal level team success but averaging FAR better stats in 22 ppg, 13 apg, 8 rpg on better efficiency. And MJ is just on another planet statistically nearly doubling IT's scoring with 35-6-6 or 32-8-8. IT is a great player, but there are levels to this, and individually he was just not in the same sphere as guys like Magic or Jordan.

That's a fair point. However, to me, the IT segment was making a subtle MVP case for IT. Maybe not to the point that he should have won over Magic in 89 or 90, but at the very least, he was making the case that he had a case for MVP as much as Magic. Notice, what he says... "Led a team of misfits to the best record," "while Magic had a star cast," "had the best record," "he would go on to prove everyone wrong by sweeping Bird, and later Magic..." Etc. Those aren't words that are ONLY saying he's one of the greatest players to not win MVP... He's implying that he should have won (or at the very least, he should have had just as much a case as Magic in those particular years). Which again, I'm saying, he does not have a case on the level of Magic or Jordan in the late 80s/early 90s. Is he an MVP-csliber player? Sure. But again, there are levels to this, and he rightly shouldn't have ever won the award in a world where he's playing at the same time as prime Bird, prime Magic, and prime MJ. At the very most, I grant he could have been voted higher, like in the top 10 or even top 5 some of those years, but not quite in the same league as the guys mentioned above.

No because the voters require the team to have a great record. Sometimes the require the team to have the best record but even when that doesn't happen. The team has to at least be a playoff team. In those situations though that player has to have significantly better stats than the stars that got the top 1-3 slots in the playoffs. The only exception that I can think of is when Westbrook win the mvp on a very mediocre team but that's because he had an alltime great season that prior to it happening no one would ever believe someone his size would avg a triple double. Facts!!!
