Clear and informative, good job. I don't use a lot of photography software but I'm surprised that as you point out you couldn't move multiple layers at the same time in the older versions
Looking forward to these changes! I don't use GIMP for any serious image manipulation, just occasional pixel measuring and meme composition, but especially (kinda basic) features like multi-layer select will probably benefit everyone! Obviously there's still a long way to go, but as more tech debt is cleared and the foundation is improved, I hope GIMP will really take off!
Some humans are just too bloody fussy: I actually like the logo and prefer the GIMP UI to those of Photoshop, Krita, Affinity Photo, etc., just like I prefer the UI of Microsoft PowerPoint. So there!
I'm not sure if you've ever worked in software development, but here's a simple concept: maybe they're a (relatively) small team, and are working on more immediately important features. A full UI rewrite like what you're probably hoping for is a GIGANTIC project, I doubt you can even imagine that. Or maybe they just don't have any dedicated UI designers yet, which yes they should change, but like... can they? Hiring people costs money y'know. Or you get lucky and find someone who'll do it for free, and good luck with that! Point is, there are A MILLION reasons why "they do not handle it". Reasons that I think the team is more aware of and frustrated by than you could ever be. The criticism of "the UI is (still) bad" is valid, but the way you're presenting it makes you sound uninformed and entitled.
@daddoesdigital they shouldn't lower the bar tbh. That's how you get MuseScore looking like crap, until someone comes in who doesn't lower the bar, and now it looks great! That said, critiquing the icon for not being "serious enough" is just nitpicking. Nitpicking we might take seriously, but there are also people who have good reasons for thinking that NOT overcorporatizing your logo (like every other generic app seems to do these days) is better. I don't even think it's that ugly!

I was shocked too!
I want gimp to have this splash screen forever and ever. I will make it happen on mine. Enough said.
Omg 😳

as a long time Gimp-believer I hope they do well,
Thanks mate good vid.
No problem 👍

can you make shapes?
Lol that splash screen
Lol it is something
UI still trash! Why they do not handle it?

They should start with the simplest thing. Change the logo. This ugly dog is not fit for use in serious software.
so you're not lowering the bar because its free? :)
@@daddoesdigital yes. I prefer pir*@ted photoshop that also free.
