Huh.. I remember this episode really vividly actually. The Tiny Toons staff really had moments where they felt ahead of their time. You can tell it was a good crew behind this cartoon.
One of my favorite episodes of DEXTER'S LAB (one of my favorite animated shows) was "written" by a 6-year-old. He recorded himself narrating a story and doing all the voices... and they animated around it! You can even hear his mom a couple of times.
For those of you curious, yes the Nostalgia Critic and the Angry Video Game Nerd did indeed appear as a sight gag in anime, the show was called THE UNLIMITED Hyobu Kyosuke and its on Cruncyroll at this time. It was part of the Winter 2013 anime season and coincides pretty closely with when Doug Walker brought the Nostalgia Critic back. The show itself is actually pretty good, something of a sequel to Zettai Karen Children, but you don't need to watch that for it to make sense.
I remember it. I thought it was the worst episode ever when it aired, and that whoever made it didn't understand Dexter's Lab at all (I mean, Dexter calling a computer stupid, over and over again, was very out of character). Now that I know it was made by a six year old, that makes perfect sense.
It was said the kid won a contest to write an episode for the show. I feel like he sent in a videotape or audio recording of his story to Cartoon Network and the show's team probably thought it was so funny and adorable that they decided to use his voice recording for the episode. That one woman who popped up in the episode a couple of times was probably his mom.
I'd like to know about the Dexter's Lab episode that was written by a 6 year old. "Yew are stoooopid, yew are stoooopid, and don't forget, yew are stooooopid!"
I was so jealous of these 3. I kept trying to write my own for Animaniacs (since the joke credit said to submit your script to another show) but never had the guts to send it in. Congrats to the three & thanks for the follow up!!
What an amazing story Renee! I was 11 when Tiny Toons happened, and it was the best thing EVER! Of course with Animaniacs sitting next to it on it's own throne. I loved your story, and being an artsy kid myself. I"M TOTALLY JEALOUS! I would have killed for an opportunity like that at such a young age. Hell maybe I'd be drawing, and writing still instead of installing floors. If that would have happened to me. Now I sit here at 36 (Just turned that number 13 days ago.) And your story has inspired me to pick up the old pen, and paper again to start drawing, and writing again. Perhaps I'll wind up on a cartoon show, and I'll bring up the idea of bringing 3 random thirteen year olds into the mix once more. SEE YOU ARE INSPIRATIONAL!
He may have actually video interviewed her, but NC's questions/reactions in this video have obviously been edited in. I hope he had her permission to do it this way.
I guess this kind of stuff still happens. There was an episode of adventure time that revolved around a character made by a little kid, this tiny cat assassin named Me Mow. It was really cute :3
The character was voiced by Kyla Rae Kowalewski, the same girl who voiced Anais from The Amazing World of Gumball. The fan who created her was named Gunnar Gilmore.
Doug, this probably hands down the best video you've ever made. This is going to inspire so many kids to follow their dreams at a young age. Parents, please show this video to your kids so they can be inspired to share their creativity with the world. We really need it now.
Thank you for doing this, Doug! Back in 1991, 20/20 (mentioned at 7:10) was on after TGIF, at 10pm. When my brothers and I saw that this story would be the last of 3 segments on the show, we forced ourselves to stay awake til 10:45. It aired before the actual episode, and it was the greatest news story 3 little kids could hope for. The episode, of course, is legendary.
I was a few years younger than these girls when I saw it and I honestly was mindblown. It's still my favorite Tiny Toons episode to date. We got this episode on a VHS tape.
This was actually so interesting! So cool for a crew to bring these young girls ideas to life! Bravo to Spielberg for not only inspiring, but actually encouraging young people!
Fox Kids was so fun when they had cartoons like Tiny Toons, Batman, Animaniacs. Also it's similar to Arthur episode "The Contest" in which kids wrote the episode and they use the winner of the contest for an episode.
It was released DTV in Early Spring 1992. And aired in its entirety on Fox on May 21-22,1993 as the series finale. It was later broken down into 5 parts in Syndication. Discovery Family/HUB reaired in its entirety for the first time in 20 years on May 24,2014.
Well, not too long ago, a 15 year old fan named Teddy Antonio wrote the premise and outline to an episode of Friendship is Magic. (Keep Calm and Flutter On)
The problem is, you got more selfish directors in the world of animation these days, around the globe these days when it comes to adult animation. Little Witch Acedemia becoming a Netflix-only series was only accomplished by fans, a rare feat.
Hey commercials next week: I got suggestions the Japanese snow tire commercial, the screaming monster commercial, the commercial where giant ants and rats invade several homes, the commercial with the laughing doll, the original Kermit commercials.
His 4th Commericals special featured Don Bluth, but also had some of my personal nostalgia covering the old Macho Man Randy Savage Slim Jim ads Ooooo, yeeeeah!
Ever since I first found out some kids had helped write an episode I've wanted to know more about it. This was even better than I could have imagined. I love all the details but especially the fact that she fell in love thanks to the experience. This makes me love Tiny Toons so much more than ever. Thank you, Nostalgia Critic (and thank you Renee
Because humans live on average for about seventy years. Seventy < One Century Twenty-five years is one-quarter of a century, meaning about a third of the average human's lifespan.
Imagine NC reaching out to more past kid actors and people who contributed to memorable episodes and commercials from our childhood, I'd like to see more videos of that.
I think that tiny toons was ok it was definitely the better of the "baby years" you know the shows link Muppet babies, Baby Looney Tunes and stuff like that. I think that at sometimes the comedy shined through like that batman and robin joke and other times not exactly. Now I would defiantly believe that it was written by kids, just in the way the episodes were made and written you'd think that maybe that was the case but then you would wonder why and how they would let that happen. Well it did excellent video as always Critic always bringing us either thought provoking stuff or strange but awesome information with your editorials. I think that my insight on things on the editorial spectrum is ok but it could use some work but I do do the research and always make sure that what I'm saying is important and interesting. On the subject of shows being written by kids or we think are written by kids if I didn't do my homework and haven't already made a couple videos on it I would swear to god that Teen Titans Go was written my like 3-5 year old kids because that is how smart that show is in fact I'm pretty sure infants could write something better than that show's comedy so it pains me to know that grown adults with high paying jobs write that shit. If you like my insight or want to see what I'm all aboot well, Hey I'm NC JR I remember ABOOT it because I need reassurance that I'm not the only one EH. Wishing NC senior would review things from your generation(1999-2010s) Well then Never Fear your friendly Neighborhood Canadian Critic is here. LATEST REVIEW TEEN TITANS. Please subscribe it would honestly make my day.
I totally agree and TTG is an awful show that is actually one of the leading causes of the death of Cartoon Network. I can't wait to see the commercial special next week they are always a sort of event for me. Keep of the great work JR I love your vids man.
I know right I love the commercial episodes before each one I always rewatch the series in preparation. I also love how he names them differently then he titles the videos. It is hilarious how they are like the sub titles you'd put in a movie like Dawn and Rise.
I am familiar with the fact they are new characters like babs bunny and all that and I know that there was and actual Baby Looney Tunes show so that is me saying things wrong by bad sir.
+Doyle Holloway "TTG is an awful show that is actually one of the leading causes of the death of Cartoon Network." First off, I'm assuming you're referring to Teen Titans Go! Second, that was pretty random of you to bring up, since the OP was discussing the 'characters being portrays as kids' shows. Third and most important, you should know that Go! is actually Cartoon Network's most profitable shows at the moment. And yes, this is considering Steven Universe, Adventure Time, and Regular Show. Go! is a cheaply made cartoon that get a LOT of views. The show is crap, but there is a reason it's still airing. Kids are eating this shit up and Cartoon Network is happily producing more of it... it's the essence of easy money.
Funny story. there was an episode of My little pony Friendship is magic that was written by a 15 year old fan of the show. He wrote an episode about the most powerful villain in the show becoming friends with one of the main characters and stops trying to cause chaos for her sake. the episode was called "Keep calm and Flutter on"
I'm probably one of the few people my age (19, going on 20 early next year) who remembers watching reruns on TV back in day, because you know, it ended years before I was born. It was my favorite show.
I remember this happen in Arthur. When I think there where doing a contest were kids could write an episode and would be made if they win. Ironically the one that won was the episode where Arthur and his friends enter a contest to write a cartoon, and they parody south park, Dexter Lab, Bevies & Butt Head, and Dr. Katz. And at the end they thank the kid who wrote it.
People bag on the new one so much, I'd kind of like to see NC do a comparison just for my own curiosity; I'd like to know just what everyone hates so much.
Technically it was Tom Ruegger who created all Tiny Toons, Animaniacs, and Pinky and Brain (and Pinky, Elmyra and the Brain) (He was a writer/Executive Producer/Senior Producer for Freakaziod). If you want another series like these ask him.
Alex Paulino Wow. Didn't knew that part. Then again, nobody will let him do something like that because now kids are interested in stuff like that horrid atrocity that is Teen Titans GO...
Ok, that was pretty cool. Being a story writer since age 7, that experience would have been a dream come true for me! It also makes me happy knowing Speilburg is that nice. Looking forward to another commercial video as well! :D
You know what would be cool? If nostalgia critic reviews modern video games of today. Sure, he has reviewed some video games, but what if he reviewed the more popular ones? Grand theft auto 5, super smash bros, zelda, ocarina of time, you know, high selling and popular games of the 2000s to today?
Honestly I´d enjoy this video more if Doug would have shot it as himself, I understand that there is a demand for the critic amongst fans, but it comes off as too tryhard to be funny, while a relaxed video with Doug talking about something interesting would have felt more informative & natural. I may be in the minority, but outside of the sketches & comedy I prefer their real thoughts in terms of criticism.
I'm from the hometown as the girls who wrote the episode, Waynesboro, Va! I was in second grade when this aired and it was a BIG deal to everyone around school to see the "Waynesboro episode" of Tony Toons. Also, my mom taught piano lessons to Sarah Creef, one of the girls from the episode!
Interesting. I always wanted to present an idea For Disney, like a Disney movie with every Disney character, If she can write a script for Tiny Toons, then I can write a movie script for Walt Disney Animation Studios Thanks, Doug!:)
+Aubrey Ezzo I agree follow your dream. But you should contact a Disney agent before you hand in that script, also you should get some type of patent, or trademark. That way if Disney doesn't accept they can't steal your idea. Also if Disney doesn't accept it you can still use the idea, maybe turn it into an animated show. But good luck, with the script if you're going to do it.
Landon Hood ditto. I was going to ask in a comment until I thought "wait, someone else has probably already asked." I really want to know about NC anime.
Great story and congrats to Renee! I wasn't exactly a major fan of Tiny Toons but it was the show that consistently aired right before X-Men where I grew up, so I was glued to the TV.
It's not really a glitch. It's just that before 301 views, views are generated by how many times the page is loaded. After that cap, the server takes a little bit of time to switch to views by IP.
Thanks for showing those Fox Kids promos. Seeing those again definitely brings back memories. I used to watch Fox Kids all the time when I was a kid growing up. I miss those times.
OH MY GOSH!!! OH MY GOSH!!!! Okay, not even kidding, I JUST finished marathoning all the Nostalgia Commercials in order. I'm so looking forward to the next episode!
I have been on a huge Tiny Toons nostalgia trip for the last month or so and I just learned about this. Awesome video! Also aside from a few dated jokes the show holds up incredibly well. I forgot how many real life issues the show actually tackled as well. Easily one of the best cartoons of all time imo.
Was there ever an episode of a crossover between tiny toons and the animaniacs?? sooooooo long ago I don't know if I just imagined it or was it something that actually happened....🤔
Animaniacs featured Tiny Toons cameos from time to time. One of the best had Elmyra attending one of the Warners' sessions with Dr. Scratchandsniff, and proving to be capable of annoying even them,
Huh.. I remember this episode really vividly actually. The Tiny Toons staff really had moments where they felt ahead of their time. You can tell it was a good crew behind this cartoon.
Hi PhantomStrider! I'm a big fan of your vids. Keep up the good work! :)

John John thank you for spreading awareness of my favorite anime!
Remember that Dexter's Laboratory episode that was thought up by a six year old, "Dexter and Computress get Mandark?"
mallrats4000 oh yeah I remember that one
i was thinking of that to lol
GoldFusion Productions
In a good way or a bad way? xD
I remember it. I thought it was the worst episode ever when it aired, and that whoever made it didn't understand Dexter's Lab at all (I mean, Dexter calling a computer stupid, over and over again, was very out of character). Now that I know it was made by a six year old, that makes perfect sense.

Did you know that the script for TMNT: Out of the Shadows was also written by a 13-year-old?

Benjamin Abramowitz you mean Michael bay
Too true
Ayyyyy
Plot twist: Michael Bay is 13

The Unlimited Hyobu Kyousuke.
Can you tell me in what episode he is in?
Episode 5

It's my second favorite anime! It's really good, you should watch it, it's only 12 episodes
Autobot-Jedi-Iron-man it's on kissanime
Yeah that would never work now. Kids would just get a form letter saying "we don't accept unsolicited material"
Nice video Doug. We're looking forward to the next commercial special.
shadowlinkbds I know, I've watched all of them to increase the anticipation.
I hope there are more PSA's. Critic's reaction to the Canadian ones are burned into my brain.
Afib4u isalie4us CANADA
Afib4u isalie4us honestly, it's where I learned about assault and how common it is. I think YTV aired the commercial

"The conspiracy of course that the internet didn't exist yet."
Yeah it did.
Steve Perrin It didn't officially. The illuminati hadn't allowed its public release.

The Illuminati doesn't exist anymore.
Steve Perrin yes the Internet existed. More importantly alt.tv.tiny-toon existed!
He should of said 'social media' didn't exist yet.
I believe one of the hallmarks of conspiracies is that they're consistently false.
I remember you saying once that Critic does commercials when he needs a break. I feel him this year.
I guess this kind of stuff still happens. There was an episode of adventure time that revolved around a character made by a little kid, this tiny cat assassin named Me Mow. It was really cute :3

zeto kenshi It's a screenshot from Zettai Karen Children: The Unlimited.
zeto kenshi I believe you can find a clip of it on RUclips

I think the deadline for submitting commercials has passed, hey you're a Jets fan too
MorrowindGaming I've seen the giant ants one, but I don't know if it's common. My favourite one is the car commercial where killer snowmen attack
MorrowindGaming I have a bunch the video is already pretty much done lol
It's probably already filmed
Then this can be ideas for next year!

The artist intentionally referenced NC and the nerd yes, but they didn't know about it until someone said it to them on social media.

And at the end they thank the kid who wrote it.
Awesome interview if I had that chance to write or story board a episode I would be so happy to do that! ^^
Do an old vs New on Teen Titans
O L D
L L
D L O
-the universe
Isaiah Wilson as much as would love that 1 no contest old wins 2 he didn't watch teen titans
Benjamin Johnson Yeah but it's a great excuse to just completely tear "Teen Titans Go Fuck Yourself" to fucking shreds.
Old would win by a curb-stomp.
People bag on the new one so much, I'd kind of like to see NC do a comparison just for my own curiosity; I'd like to know just what everyone hates so much.
I got so f**kin' hyped when he pulled out that shirt at the end. You sure know how to excite people, Doug.
Ok 2 things:
1. Unshaved Doug looks weird
2. NOSTALGIA COMMERCIAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAALS!
*shaved
Oh my god, I remember this episode so well. Now I get why it felt so off.
So do I. I'm an 80s kid.
Exactly, even as a child I knew something wasn’t right
When will Steven do another such cartoon?
Tiny Toons, Animaniacs, Pinky and The Brain, Freakazoid...those were gold.
Technically it was Tom Ruegger who created all Tiny Toons, Animaniacs, and Pinky and Brain (and Pinky, Elmyra and the Brain) (He was a writer/Executive Producer/Senior Producer for Freakaziod). If you want another series like these ask him.
Alex Paulino
Wow. Didn't knew that part.
Then again, nobody will let him do something like that because now kids are interested in stuff like that horrid atrocity that is Teen Titans GO...
I know right, he's know a writer for the 7D it seems. It's a shame I'd really would love to see him back with a new show.
Alex Paulino
We'll need to wait and see what will happen later.
Doug, you are unbelievably amazing. It astounds me that you put this all together. :)
Aw yes! I remember this episode :D I loved this show :) It's awesome to hear about her experience.
So do I. Aired 5/17/1991.
That's really cool that it wasn't a contest or gimmick but a random solicitation.
PAUSE. WHEN WERE YOU AN ANIME
Zash of The Kyobi 2013! In the Unlimited Hyoubu Kyosuke! Which is an amazing anime.
Ok, that was pretty cool. Being a story writer since age 7, that experience would have been a dream come true for me! It also makes me happy knowing Speilburg is that nice.
Looking forward to another commercial video as well! :D
I have a plushie of Plucky Duck! I got him at a yard sale a few years ago for 25 cents!
I always love Tiny Toons to this day
I gasped when I saw the shirt at the end!!! The commercials are my favorite, I've seen the whole series way too many times. I can't wait!!!!
Interesting. I always wanted to present an idea For Disney, like a Disney movie with every Disney character, If she can write a script for Tiny Toons, then I can write a movie script for Walt Disney Animation Studios Thanks, Doug!:)
Enjoy Disney's response telling you they didn't even consider looking at your script because they don't accept unsolicited material.
Aubrey Ezzo you should totally go for it!!
I about flipped when you brought out the donut shirt. I freaking love your commercial episodes. XD
When was Nostalga Critic in an anime?
I'm replying to this comment so that if someone actually has an answer it will show up in my notifications.
Landon Hood Some time ago, both he and the AVGN cameod in it
Landon Hood ditto. I was going to ask in a comment until I thought "wait, someone else has probably already asked." I really want to know about NC anime.
the unlimited: hyoubu kyousuke, in the fifth episode.
Landon Hood it happened almost 4 years ago actually
Great story and congrats to Renee! I wasn't exactly a major fan of Tiny Toons but it was the show that consistently aired right before X-Men where I grew up, so I was glued to the TV.
Please bring back Tiny Toons!
With Joe Alaskey(voice of Plucky Duck) having passed away earlier this year, chances are slim.:(
One thing I recall about THAT episode was Plucky and Hamton swapping personalities.
it's my dream to create a source of animated entertainment and she was able to do it as a child omg I envy her.
Actually semi screamed "YAAAS" When I saw that shirt. Super excited Doug, you keep on making SO MANY people happy every single week.
Sooooo, does this mean another commercials episode is next? One that hopefully won't get taken down because of copyright?
Headset Guy None of the individual ones were. Only the compilation was
My point still stands.
I wonder why? How can a compilation be copyright infringement?
I literally jumped out of my chair when I saw the shirt in the end of the video. YEEEES!
When I saw him in that anime it really shocked me!
Well, how did it feel once you realized that the person standing behind him were none other than James Rolfe, a.k.a. The Angry Video Game Nerd?
What's the name of that anime?
Name the anime please wtf i want to watch it
Hell yes! Waynesboro, VA up in the house! Harrisonburg native here, 540!
I lived in Chesapeake,VA at the time.
Charlottesville currently going to Uni in Lynchburg! VA residents united!
Ummm why is the 301 glitch back
Yeah... WTF RUclips?!
you know what that means? :)
It's not really a glitch. It's just that before 301 views, views are generated by how many times the page is loaded. After that cap, the server takes a little bit of time to switch to views by IP.
It's a "'feature.''
Thanks for showing those Fox Kids promos. Seeing those again definitely brings back memories. I used to watch Fox Kids all the time when I was a kid growing up.
I miss those times.
Oh my god, more commercials coming, yes please.
The Wonder Boner
You said it, bro. Cannot wait!
You said it, bro. Cannot wait!
Thanks, Doug! Because of you, I got to interview Renee for my author blog! :)
Cue the "Ahhhh! The goatee!" posts.
OH MY GOSH!!! OH MY GOSH!!!!
Okay, not even kidding, I JUST finished marathoning all the Nostalgia Commercials in order. I'm so looking forward to the next episode!
Wait so the movie studio just gave a random fan the address of a 13-year-old girl?
I have been on a huge Tiny Toons nostalgia trip for the last month or so and I just learned about this. Awesome video! Also aside from a few dated jokes the show holds up incredibly well. I forgot how many real life issues the show actually tackled as well. Easily one of the best cartoons of all time imo.
Well that's a cool story, wait COMMERCIALS!!!!!!!
MORE COMMERCIALS! YAAAAAARGH!!! and seriously, this was an awesome video!
Was there ever an episode of a crossover between tiny toons and the animaniacs?? sooooooo long ago I don't know if I just imagined it or was it something that actually happened....🤔
There was a cameo of Buster and Babs getting on Noahs ark in a Hip Hippos episode
The original MRjguill Plenty.
Scott Sandler I have to check this out
Made_In_Heaven88 interesting....thanks 🤔
Animaniacs featured Tiny Toons cameos from time to time. One of the best had Elmyra attending one of the Warners' sessions with Dr. Scratchandsniff, and proving to be capable of annoying even them,
You really should do more of these. Interviews are AWESOME
NC: *takes out the i donut donuts t-shirt*
Me: AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
Everytime he does something that's actually nostalgic he has to make another nostalgic commercials episode, we should really get used to it by now
