Great job with the invisible zip. They are so tricky. Kenneth D. King has an outstanding method of installing invisible zips. He did a video on it for Threads Sewing, here on RUclips. It was an absolute game changer for me. ❤️
Thanks for the tip I will check that video out. It’s great there are so many different methods x
Great sew along. The look fantastic on you. I passed this pattern over but I’m rethinking it now. Your fabric choice is what changed my mind definitely do not look like Jammies. Thank you. Val ❤️🇨🇦🇬🇧
Yeah when I saw them at first I thought they weren’t for me but then the more I saw them pop up on Instagram and saw how nice they looked in other people I just had to give them a go 👍 x
Love your tutorials, so thorough and always have a cat interlude ❤️😍😎
Haha yeah I thought it may be a cat free sew along until I heard the door squeak open 😂
As a newbie to sewing I find your sew along so informative. Thank you.
Ahh thank you so much! That’s lovely to hear 🥰
Love the pants! I like to use Swedish tracing paper. It's paper with a consistency like fabric. You can actually sew on it, so some people use it to make toiles. It's available from lots of different places (I got mine on Amazon). Especially nice for patterns that you plan to make more than once because it's so sturdy.
Yeah I have heard a lot about Swedish tracing paper, I may treat myself to some for my go to patterns when the paper gets worn out x
Michelle, they are beautiful. I’m not a trouser person anymore (put on far too much weight), but I love these. You suit them and they look so comfy. Love the fabric too. I still haven’t made anything with mine from the SHJ box yet. Still thinking. Thank you for another great tutorial. X
Ahh thanks so much for watching! Hope you find a suitable project that you want to make out of the fabric 😁👍 x
Fab video. Definitely summer chic. You look great in them 🙂
Thank you so much 😊 x
Just waiting for my pattern to arrive, thanks for the sew along - I think I’m going to be able to manage these! Fingers crossed xx
Ah that’s great 😁 have fun making them x
Lovely trousers, great fit! 🚴♀️🐝
Thank you 😊
I think they’re fab and not at all like pyjamas! You look great! 💜👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Yay!! 😁👍💖
Definitely summer chic! Think I'll have to get this pattern. They are lovely.
Thank you! I really enjoyed this one and I was shocked that the pattern fit so well out of the packet for me x
Hi Michelle, Your Nina Lee pants look amazing & the fit is perfect. Definitely show them off & not pjs 😀👍. Love your choice of fabric it flows beautifully. Thanks for your sew a longs!
Aww thank you so much! I can’t wait to wear them out when the weather gets warmer 😁💖
Well done Michelle. The trousers looked lovely. I’m quite inspired to make this pattern now. It’s been hanging around since last year. 🤗
Yeah go for it 😁 I was really pleased with them x
They look great Michelle. They will be great for summer. I love it when you mention if something isn’t quite perfect like the width of the waistband. Makes me feel much better about my slightly imperfect makes lol. Your overlocker is so much quieter than mine. Mine sounds like a tractor lol. ❤️❤️❤️
Haha do you want to know a secret 🤫.... I put the volume down to only 20% on the overlocking noise bits when I was editing 🤣🤣🤣 mine sounds like a tractor too!!! X
@@SewingBunny oh lol ok 😂😂😂
Another wonderful sew-a-long. I love the trousers!👏
Thank you so much xx
They look fantastic! Love the video.
Ah thank you so much 😊 x
Hi Michelle love, the trousers look fabulous! Mum xx
Thanks mum 😘
Well done Michelle, really inspiring vlog, as you said the fit is perfect 👍
And summer chic for sure ❤
Ahh thank you so much! Yay glad you see summer chic ☀️👍
Those little green flowers remind me of a 🍀 clover leaf 😁
Ahh they are a little bit aren’t they 💚
Great, Michelle! Perfect timing, because I recently started making the Palazzo Pants from the Great British Sewing Bee book and I am using the same Sew Hayley Jane fabric (mine was the burgundy colour way). I was going to attempt putting in the invisible zip with the Kenneth King’s method. I haven’t tried it yet, but apparently it avoids that ‘bump’ that sometimes happens. Can’t wait until mine are done - yours look fabulous!😃
Ahh that’s great you are using the SHJ fabric for trousers too 👍 yeah a few people have suggested that zip tutorial I will make sure I give it a watch x
I really enjoyed your sew along, it can't be easy sewing whilst holding your camera. I thought your trousers looked really nice and the weight and drape of the fabric was a perfect match. Regarding your waistband puzzle, I think maybe you pressed the interfacing onto the 'wrong' half, so if you make them again, check where your notches are before placing your interfacing? Also the zipper insertion technique that many here refer to by Kenneth King I haven't seen yet, but I have seen an excellent tutorial I highly recommend recently, by Lucy from Sew Essential, based on Kenneth's method I think, where she used a pair haemostats to pull the zipper tab through as well. A really easy game changer for invisible zippers.
I really admire your open and honest style and your sunny personality, so inspiring, thank you.
Ahh thanks so much for the tips and about the zip! I will be sure to check that out 😁 thanks so much for watching and the feedback too 👍 x
Thank you Michelle, enjoyed your tutorial! Loved watching how you did the zip, very informative ♥️🥰
You are very welcome! Thank you so much for watching x
Another option with the zip installation is to use a zip that is longer than what you need and just cut it off after installation and sew over the end a few times to secure it and stop the pull from going off the end. Hope that makes sense!
Yeah I have seen that method! Looks like a good idea 👍
Love these! They definitely look like fun summer trousers rather than pj’s. Thanks for sharing!
Yay! I just need the sun to be here now 🤣
Love this! i want to have a go at making these!
Yeah you should give them a try! 😁💖
Fantastic sew along as always Michelle 😊 they look gorgeous and not at all like PJ bottoms. I'm sure they'll be lovely to wear during spring and summer. Lovely to see your gorgeous babies joining you too 😘 xx
Aww thanks so much for watching 😻 xx
I love watching your sew-a-longs. You are so good at showing all the steps. Definitely not PJ’s.
Ahh thank you so much 🥰
Hi Michelle. Fabulous trousers! You’ve really made me want to sew a pair. Perfect sew along, you made it so easy to follow. Thank you so much. Xx
Ahh thanks so much Sandra 😁 yeah I really enjoyed making these x
They look great on you!
Thank you so much 😊
You do such a great job at explaining what you're doing and why. I think a beginner would be able to follow your example easily. If someone wants a closer look at how you sew a particular part, for instance that outside seam around the pockets, they can tap the three little dots at the top right. Tap playback speed to slow down the video, then repeat to return to normal.
I've never seen an invisible zip installed with a regular zipper foot before! But it turned out flawless. I use that tape too and it really helps keep everything lined up.
The darts and pleats take the pants out of the pajama realm into summer chic! They are adorable on you and yes, the fit is perfect.
Good job!
Ahh thank you so much! I didn’t know about that function to slow down (learn something everyday!) I do have an invisible foot for my machine but i just never use it 😂 yeah that tape makes it so much easier to install a zip for sure! Thanks so much for watching xx
Love your trousers! I loved when you said about them looking like pajamas, "But I just don't care"! Love it! Great job😊❤👍
Haha! Yeah I was so proud of them 😁
Definitely summer chic! The trousers look fab! 👍👍
Yay! 😁👍
Love your sew alongs and what terrific trousers you have made!Always a treat to see your gorgeous cats.🌹
Ah thank you so much for watching 😻
Definitely summer chic!! Absolutely gorgeous....well done and thank you so much for sharing.
Ahh thank you! And thanks so much for watching 💖
They look really comfy. Thanks for the sew along Michelle.
You are very welcome thank you so much for watching x
I really enjoyed watching your sew along. You have really inspired me to have a go at making trousers.
That’s great! Yeah you should give trousers a go! 😁
Absolutely brilliant at explaining for someone who is a beginner.thank you Michelle xx
Ahh that’s so lovely to hear! I feel I am always learning myself so if it helps anyone then that’s job done for me 👍 xx
Just got around to making my first Portobellos. Your Sew-along was so helpful thanks Michelle, especially for the pleats (for some reason I was trying to fold them at double the width 🤪) and for the zip insertion. With regards to the waistband, I think the interfacing should have been ironed onto the opposite side, but the instructions didn’t specify this - then the notches would have been on the correct side. I’m loving my new pants, even though I’m a different body shape to you (I’m 5ft 3” with a thick waist - “apple-shaped”), but they still look lovely 😊
Ahh great to hear you love your trousers 😁 yes you are probably right with my waist and cutting. I must make another pair as I did enjoy making them
Michelle, they are brilliant! Thanks for the sew-along🧡.
You are very welcome! Thanks so much for watching x
Love this tutorial!
Ahh thanks so much Jess 💖😁
I think they are adorable and summery. I live in Florida, and I want to give them a try. Thanks for you video!!
Ahh thanks so much for watching! Yeah we just need some sun here so I can wear them outside ☀️
Very Well done 👍
Thank you so much 😁
Love your trousers ... I definitely don’t think they look like pajamas 👖..🇺🇸🇺🇸
Ahh thank you 😊
Summer chic all the way Michelle 👌💝... fabulous tutorial and definitely ones to try soon...thanks so much 👍😁💝😘
Ahh thanks so much! Yeah I was a bit worried they may look like PJs but i love them so much x
Very thorough tutorial, thank you. You’ve inspired me to have a go! Nice to see you on Andrea’s sewcial catch up tonight xx (Kala)
Yes you too 😁 I love Andrea’s channel she is so good getting those sewcials set up! Thanks so much for watching xx
Hi Michelle! Thank you for another lovely sewalong!! I really enjoy your channel!!💕. (sorry, I couldn't see an email address for you..) just to say that when I attach a zip, I sew the seam (where the zip will finally be) all the way up to the waistline, then I sew on my zip [on to the wrong side], and then I unpick the seam to the length of the zip, perfect zip set-in every time.😄 I hope that makes sense! Thanks again for great sewing channel! Happy Spring!! 👍🌈🌻 Maggie x
Ahh thank you! Great tip on the zip insertion 👍 I have done that technique with just v neck blouses but not for zips so I may have to try that x
As always a great video Michelle
They look really lovely, they would be ideal for warmer weather, I think a plain pair would be fabulous as you could team them with so many coloured tops x
Yeah I am thinking of doing a plain pair maybe a navy or a tan colour may be nice x
Very nice Michelle, they fit you perfectly and I think the fabric is gorgeous. Love your videos. Xx
Ahh thank you so much! I am so pleased with how they turned out x
Fab fab fab Michelle thoroughly enjoyed this sewalong. Thank you 😍
Ahh thank you so much that’s lovely to hear you enjoyed 😁
Love these Michelle, definitely not like pyjamas😍
Thanks Sam! Xx
Definitely Summer Chic Michelle 👌 Superb fit and looking really summery. I absolutely love your sewalongs, they are so honest and the “head scratchy “ moments are just the way many of us experience sewing a new pattern, so bravo for including that and also your zip insertion technique. I know the various techniques for zip wrangling but crikey Michelle, the number of times the reality is so different 🤣🤣 Lovely to see Misty and Bentley too 🥰
Aww thank you so much! I am so glad you enjoy the sew alongs! It makes it so worth while knowing that they are enjoyed 🥰 yeah I was so pleased the zip went in ok, I was quite nervous doing a close up 🙈 xx
Love your videos your trousers look great on you even your cat loved them x
Haha yeah the cats have to put their fur on everything 😻
Great tip for overlocking around curves Michelle!
I’m so pleased you found that useful 🤩👍
Another great sew along. Love the trousers on you. Great fit! 😄
Thank you! Yes I am so impressed that they fit so well x
Love, love, love your portobello trousers💕 Perfect fit and absolutely summer chic! Another pattern to add to my ever growing list! I have soo many patterns that I haven’t even tried yet let alone buying more! By the way, I use Gateway Natural Translucent Paper from Amazon which I think is fab. It’s not too thick or thin (63 gm2) and over a meter wide so I can get most of my patterns along the width. Thanks for sharing. Keep them coming x
Yeah I know the feeling 😂 I have such a long list of patterns to try! Thanks so much for the tracing paper recommendation that’s great 👍
Fabulous Michelle, they look so great. I did giggle at your walking fingers when overocker your curved edges 😂 great tip though 🥰
Love love love the multi coloured overlocker thread too 🥰
Oooh and also, defo summer chique! 🥰💕❤️💕
Thanks so much Angela! Can’t wait to see if you make them 😁 I really enjoyed the project and found it a satisfying sew x
Love this tutorial and love those pants. I’m making a skirt with a waistband and zip at the moment so this is really helpful but I think I may buy that pattern too. Thanks
That’s great! Good luck with your project 😊👍
I think the trousers look great. Really enjoyed teh sewalong and will definitely consider making some of these for myself.
Thank you so much for watching 😁 yeah you should give them a go! I really enjoyed making these x
Ohhhh they look so lovely and so comfy! I may have to some for when I'm back at work in a few weeks :) x
Yeah they are really nice to wear! They would be really smart in a plain fabric x
I LOVE how they turned out and how they look on you. Very figure flattering I must say 😊
Ahh thank you so much that’s very kind of you to say 🥰
Haya. Wonderful sew along. Lovely seeing Misty :) Your pants definitely look like summer pants & NOT PJ's :) Considering the zipper is the most trickiest part I am suprized there is minimal instructions for it to install, they are my arch nemesis so I NEED all the help I can get. . . ha ha ha ha. I noticed straight away your tracing paper was different :) I am wondering as where you cut with your fabric right sides up, maybe that might of altered the waistband? Thanku for sharing. xx
Yeah I couldn’t get my head around the waistband piece, if I make another pair I will cut on the reverse and see if that makes any difference! Yeah I thought it odd not to include zip insert instructions as I gave seen a few methods and I like to see how the pattern designs recommend doing it. Thankfully my zip went in ok I was super nervous doing it on film so thankfully it turned out ok but they don’t always go in that well 😂
@@SewingBunny When you got to the zipper part, I was smiling, I was like. . . oh no zippers, as you know, they & me do not much get along, haha, you nailed it & everything looks wonderful :) x
They look great! Definitely not pj look-a-likes .... love your sew-alongs
Yay 🙌 thank you! 😁💖
They look awesome, and not at all pajama-like.
Ah thank you 😊 x
I love them! Defo summer chic! xx
Yay! Thank you 😊 xx
Thanks for posting.
🥰
I use a non fusible light cheap interfacing for tracing patterns doesn't end up ripping like paper
That’s a great idea 👍
Love the pants!
Thank you 😊 x
Lovely fit on you and love seeing your puddie cats 💜
Aww thanks so much 😻
I really enjoyed the video and the trousers look great :)
Thanks! so glad you enjoyed watching 😁
I think they are lovely not like pjs at all great tutorial x
Ah thanks so much! Glad they don’t give off a PJ vibe 👍
Great video Michelle as usual ☺️ I just been watching the sew along. I was wondering where could I purchase the pattern from please? And they suit you too. 😊✂️🧵💕
Thank you so much! I think the paper pattern isn’t produced anymore ☹️ however you can still get the PDF from the Nina Lee website x
I’m not sure if anyone already said… but could you have flipped over the traced pattern piece for the waistband? That might explain why there was that confusion. I’ve done it myself by the way! That is why I now write something so I can check which way up I have it
Great video, and making me want to go get another pattern ❤️
Yes that may well of been the case, I just could t quite work it out 😂
Love the pants. They look beautiful on you. 1 question, have you got the button & buttonhole onth wrong sides. That could be why it didn't make sense to you. I always have the button on th long bit.
Ahh thanks so much 😊 yeah the waist band was a bit confusing but the pattern said for the button hole to be on the long bit, I think maybe I was meant to flip the pattern piece or something 😂
Did you look at Wilma Woven Top Style Arc Sewing pattern 048 from style ARC. It will be nice if you could make a Sew Along for our beginner sewers because I heard that the style ARC pattern is not for beginner sewers.
I have only made 1 style arc pattern before but would like to try out a few more I’ll make sure I keep an eye out x
I think the pants are lovely. I don't think they look like pyjamas...depends what you pair them with.
Thank you 😊
Lovely summer trousers. Do you have a magnetic pin holder on your machine? If so where did you get it from?
Ahh yes it’s a Prym cat shaped magnet! It was given to me as a gift but if you google ‘prym cat magnet’ it should come up with shops - it doesn’t seem to be on Amazon
Thanks. Found one on Sew Essential website. Ones on Ebay were more expensive. I loved cats so have ordered one.
😀
🥰
How lucky are you to have them for you straight away?? I can only dream.
Haha yeah it was a nice pattern to sew up and dedicating a weekend to them meant i could focus on them a lot x
Summer chic for sure, Michelle! 😻 Would you mind sharing your table dimensions(hxlxd), please? I'm your height and want a table just like yours. Take care!
That’s great! I measured my table and it is H- 104cm W- 130cm D-70cm xx
@@SewingBunny Thank you so much!
Michelle, I’m a beginner and when you trace your patterns off are you tracing the colored line that coordinates with the size you need or are you making adjustments as you go along ? Do you do a tissue fitting ? Am I overthinking it? Lol
I just follow the line for my size and I didn’t make any adjustments for this at all. Certain patterns I do need to grade between sizes (if you look at my NewLook shirt pattern sew along last month I show how it’s done)
I don’t do a tissue fitting as it is very difficult to do on your own.
I just take the plunge and go with it especially if I have use certain pattern designers before and trust their sizing x
Well done good sew-a-long. Can i just ask do you always cut on right side of fabric and you don't measure your grain lines. susan Peach
Hiya yeah that’s right I always cut the right side fabric up and I go by eye for placing on grain. A lot of people do measure which is probably the best way but I have always done it by eye x
How do you mark darts through the paper please
Hiya, I use a pin to make little holes in the dart lines on the paper and use a chalk pencil to make markings into the fabric. I then join the dots up on the fabric 😁 hope that helps x
If I wanted to order some of the overlock thread what would I call it?
Well I have where I buy mine in the description box but if you just search for ‘rainbow overlocking thread’ you should see some come up x
Lovely clog Michelle, trousers look great. Did you have to lengthen the crotch at all? It’s something I normally have to do being 5’8 they’re never long enough for me xx
No I did need to make any adjustments on this one, I was really surprised they were perfect out of the packet for me! Which I know is very rare x
What is that multi overlock thread you are using?
It’s rainbow coloured thread that I get from Amazon x
Very nice. Definitely NOT pajamas!
Yay! That’s great 😁 x
