Thanks to both for these amazing old-school dinner recipes, we followed each of them and made them too. Our lads who are in their twenties now can't believe they were this good. Do any of you remember the butterscotch tart they used to have. A big thanks to you both again for sharing your memories, too. Mike jones, Abergele, North Wales

Ann & Norm Overton My hubby had school dinners, I did not, anyway he wanted me to make a jam coconut sponge which I made today, using your recipe, we had it for our pudding tonight plus I'm afraid a tin of Devon Custard and hubby said the sponge from you recipe was just how he remembered it in the 60's , my neighbour who is 80 had some too & said it was delicious, thank you Sharon
Enjoyed the video Martin and Sharon this was my favourite school pudding back in the 70s me and my mates always went back for seconds after everyone had finished some times we were lucky good memories.
Lovely! This goes on the list! I'm from the same era you are Martin, only the Pacific Northwest in the United States. So that's how you say blancmange! You don't want to know what I was saying. American phonetics. Another great recipe! Thanks so much for sharing and please continue to make some of the things that are familiar for you to have. Most of them I've never seen, only heard of. Thank you! And, please pass a piece of that cake!
Talk about a time warp this take me back a good few years. I was never a fan of school dinners but this was one of my favourites. Great video Martin and Sharon.
I have been hunting the stores down for Anjelica, ffor old school fairy cakes that had Anjelica and glaciér cherries. would be great for christmas with the colours. Also, in our school in the seventies, we had home economics, and was told, (Blamange) was a milk jelly! maybe they wanted to seem posh lmao x LOVE YOU GUYS!!!! x (Anjelica can actually be found on Amazon UK)
Now that brought back good memories from school. :) I think you should make a nice retro Cornflake tart as I remember that was also one of my favourites at school... Thank you both for yet another fantastic video, My wife told me to tell you Martin that I now have the habit while eating doing the Arrrr bit lol :)
Hi, I really like your youtube and loved watching you make jam and coconut cake with pink custard. I wanted to know what the yellow custard was in the 70s as it was really nice. I have tried many of the packet brands in the supermarkets but cannot find one that tastes the same as the custard we had at school. There is nothing on the internet about yellow school custard & I wondered if you knew?
My mouth is drawling as my taste buds remember. I will be making this soon.I still enjoy bacon-roll for sunday dinner or stuffed marrow and spottydick with custard for pudding.
Great video Martin and Sharon, these cooking videos are excellent and I really enjoyed it, it's a thumbs up to you both and I look forward to the next video
Jam Coconut Sponge with Pink Custard All in one bowl: 6 oz sugar, 6 oz self-rising flour, 6 oz butter or margarine, 3 eggs, 3.5 oz dessicated coconut, 1.5 tsp vanilla "essence" Pour into a greased and floured 10" x 8" tin (American= jelly roll pan) and bake at 160 degrees C for 20 to 25 minutes till done. Turn out the "sponge" (cake) when cool, spread with jam and sprinkle with coconut. Cut into pieces and serve with "pink custard." Pink custard is apparently "Raspberry Blancmange," which Sharon and Martin made from a mix from the company "Pearce Duff." I certainly don't remember anything like this at American, Dutch or Canadian public school. In America, if we were lucky, we got a 4 oz cardboard container of ice cream with or school lunch.
Looks great. I don't so much remember that at junior school. Remember chocolate cake with choc custard though. How about trying to make turkey twizzlers? Your reaction to all the receipies when you try it makes me cry with laughter. Great video. Take care.
Nice job Sharon, that looks better than the picture on the box. Martin! Love that shirt, and you are wayyy wayyy overdue for a Rant Video. I'm holding my pee.....
