I just shot my first registered targets ever in trap this weekend, I haven’t shot trap in close to thirty years in any kind of organized thing, probably a handful of trap rounds in the last ten years. I shot a 98 in singles and 94 in handicap. I was pleased, took a bit to remember how to shoot trap again.

Great format and information! I always say, the only thing you control is yourself. Not helpful to get upset and agitated at outside factors.
Thank you for sharing your thoughts to help me improve my shooting.

Britt Robinson, standing behind me during a lesson - "If you move the gun too soon, you'll get a size 11 boot in your rear." Wish I could always do that on every shot ha ha!

Great episode and format. I always say, the only thing you can control is yourself. Getting upset with outside influences is not a great way to shoot well. Thanks for sharing your thoughts to help us improve!

Before I offer my opinion let me say that I’m fully aware of the difficulties in hiring quality referees for all shooting disciplines. I applaud the Trap community for taking a positive step forward approximately 10 years ago and introducing the microphones. At first there were many bugs that had to be ironed out but today the microphones are much improved. But depending on certain situations they don’t always work right. Sometimes there are delays, sometimes you get no birds and almost always you have to adjust the microphone. Then you have battery powered remotes which work great, well, sort of great. If the remotes are not maintained and have older batteries they are atrocious. When you see a referee on a skeet field holding the battery powered remote above his or her head it is a clear indication that there is a problem. I’m a firm believer that the best and most precise pulls came from an experienced referee with a hard wired electrical cord.

Was able to buy to kreighoff shotguns. A kx-5 and a numbers matching K32, both for $2300 each.
The K32 has 30" barrels with UP and Full. The more I shoot it the faster I am hitting the bird. Was shooting my Browning 7 25 pro sporting with Rhino chokes and really liked it. But have shot it since getting on the target so quickly with the K32.

Great video once again!!! Guys, I’ve only been trap shooting about a year. I’ve had great coaching from Larry Sowers and acquired a good Beretta 687 combo. I’m a lefty with left eye dominance. I’ve hit countless perfect 2-5 rounds but then drop 4-5 on station one. Larry says it’s a confidence thing, but is there anything you can recommend to me to try. I’ve shot numerous 24’s. My miss is typically hard left on 1. Hard right on 5 no problem.

Keep working on your hold point and look point. Find the setup that works the best for seeing the bird. Then stay tight on the gun and lock those eyes on to the leading edge. You got this!

@@traptalk27 thanks so much! Hit me first perfect 25 round Thursday! It was an honor to have my hat shot up by my shooting brothers! Your advice was spot on and I thought about before every shot. Took a deep sigh of relief after smoking all 5 on station 1!

The fluorescent turkey sight really helped me.
Was shooting continental league and on a hard fast low to the right, my left eye was picking up the bead. So once the Barrel caught up with my vision the right dominate eye had to take focus on the bird again.
I tried the "L" bracket to block it but didn't like it.
The long turkey sight is moved back farther and my left eye doesn't pick it up.
4 other people at my club have tried it and it helped them also.

What do you do to take care of your gun after shooting in the rain? I have a detachable trigger. Would removing and spraying it with WD 40 be enough?

I took John Malon's class 2 years ago at Black Diamonb gun club. He had 4 suggestions and changed my score s for the better.
    1. Don't move the gun before seeing the bird.
    2. Holding the gun too high. Keep it under the top of the house.
    3. Stop moving at the shoulders.
    5. Close in my stance.
