- The full track 'Low Levels High Stakes'. My favourite AH track.
The guitar solo that starts at 4:50 is just a stunning piece of work that I never tire of hearing.
Hope you enjoy too. Видеоклипы
One of the greatest solos ever recorded.
Holdsworth is beyond jazz fusion. He opened up a whole new harmonic pathway of composition as well as redefining how to play guitar. Glad i saw him 7 times between 1979 & 2007
As a guitarist, I first heard Allan in 1986. While ,VanHalen, Malmsteen and so many others became less impressive as time passed and my own playing greatly improved, Allan is still just as impressive today as the first time I ever heard him.
He left us too soon.
The legato technique is unparalleled, but that's about all there is,improvising gets boring, monotonous, etc...his execution is beautiful for what it is,but I prefer to hear Art with technical proficiency, like Vai,VH,etc....
That tremendous Allan's solo is one of humanity's great achievements in music.
Holdsworth doesn't just represent musical genius -- and he is, he's on a Bach level. But remember when Bach died he had mostly been forgotten. People felt he was old fashioned. "Art of Fugue" was dead, no-one performed the B Minor Mass until ages after he was gone.
What these guys represent is also integrity. Whilst everyone else was worrying about fashion they carry on and plough their own furrow, and much later on, everyone realises who the *real* master was.
Very True.
Integrity
Yep there’s big predictions for the future importance of Allan Holdsworth. Personally I think it will replace bepop to be considered the real jazz, a more perfect form
Very special, but not a bach. No one is a Bach but Bach
I'm the biggest holdsworth fan of 40yrs. Sorry but he's not on Bach's level. No one is
Allan was special...I am absolutely sure that he was one the most significant artists to ever walk the surface of this earth.
Bass solo starts on 2:45 enjoy... thanks Scott Devine
+Theodoro Caliari +Ben Kicken and you can hear how it has influenced Scott's own style!
from scotts lessons? xD hehe same here although its bass i feel guilty stealing his amazing riffs into my guitar, it makes it more....MASSIVE xD
have a great day, hopefully if time and fates are kind enough, would love to jam with you buddy
Ha! I also heard him talk about this! RIP Allan Holdsworth. I have this cd since it came out.
The Solo plays SKULI SVERRISSON!! 😜😉
It's the most sublime and beautiful bass solo I have ever heard....
My God... transcendental, and profound beyond words. This is multidimensional music playing. Allan Holdsworth is quite the miracle. And Skuli Sverrisson is a poet... one of my all-time favorite artists. His musical universe is otherworldly. Check out his record 'Seremonie'.
One hundred years beyond everyone else.
. . . at least!
The guitar solo in this song is played with so much feeling and emotion , it's ridiculous . Yes , there's Stevie Ray Vaughn feeling , there's David Gilmour feeling and there's this . I like 'em all , but this one is sooo beautiful and complete it always makes me cry.... Allan ....thank U so much for what you've done .
Every time I feel sad or with a lot of thoughts going on in my head, I listen to this piece and Allan's solo always makes me cry.
I listened to this tune, and only this tune, (no other music), for a solid month....and I still love it.
Beyond the beyond. The thing about Holdsworth is that his solos are not just a regurgitation of techniques and scales that we have all heard, they are beautifully crafted melodic washes and phrases. It is fun to see him live - it's like a church revival - He will play some insane figure and you see guys in the audience staring at each other, raising their hands in homage.
This is probably the most transcendent piece of music I've ever heard or will ever hear.
"Allan Holdsworth single-handedly rewrote the language of jazz guitar." td
perhaps the greatest solo ever ....
NOBODY comes remotely close to Allan's beauty
Not even remotely remotely...
um...Guthrie does :|
@@S-s-121 Guthrie is great and all but not really.
This is astonishing, overwhelming, impossible, unfathomable beauty
@@S-s-121 Guthrie is a modern day virtuoso and can play many styles exceedingly well. However when it comes to his own music, there's very little inginuity or originality to it, unlike Holdsworth
I always remember when I first heard this, when the solo got to it's climax starting at 6.52, I nearly fell off my seat! I was in tears by the end of the track, it's like getting hardwired into the mind of a genius just for a few moments.
pastalavista I ❤ when a person truly gets how special is/was our #AllanHoldsworth. In a word, untouchable.
Absolutely genius!!!!!
And a gentleman too
We miss you so much Allan
I have definitely broken down into tears listening to this myself.
Yes that little run on 7 minutes is a sublime musical moment that, to me, is a joy forever.
Glad I'm not the only who has been brought to tears by this solo.
This is just my opinion, having hung out with allan h after a gig in piermont back in feb.i may be biased in saying this is perhaps the greatest guitar solo ever composed by an organic being.
6:48 sounds so unbelievably cool. You've never heard anything like it until holdsworth came around.. RIP
R.I.P. Master of masters.
Changed modern electric guitar in more than one way and for the better.
And for me, he changed my way of thinking about, feeling and experiencing guitar solos and guitar playing in general.
A true pioneer and master of his craft the likes of which in any field are only seen a few times every century.
This is for me the ultimate guitar solo and the progression of emotions and energy throughout the whole song, along with what the title evokes, represent so much in my life, and I'm sure I'm not alone in this.
It's no exaggeration to say that this and many other of his songs have truly helped me and inspired me in my goals as a musician, artist and as a person.
He was one of the artists I really hoped to meet in person one day, alas...
You will be truly and sorely missed, Allan.
Deja Vue!!! My feelings and point of view exactly. I don't consider myself as an artist as my life destiny took me another direction but I still enjoy playing and getting better on the guitar and keyboards. But I fell in love with AH's music in college on many levels. The technical as well as harmonic relationships were awe inspiring to me. I just became a fan right away.
another fantastic solo from Mr Holdsworth one of his outstanding best
The guitar solo in this is mind blowing! and beautiful .
thanks for this post , great writing ... and constantly modulating chord sequences , ... and then add the superhuman ability to freely improvise with them with such rich musicality ... just incredible . I wish more people got it . Allan is a super human being .
A humble unpretentious transcendent person who's music is richly beautiful . amazing !
I think the solo in this track together with the one on 4.15 Bradford Executive are the most astonishing, inspired and dramatic ever played by a musician...R.I.P. Allan and God bless you...
Agree wholeheartedly. I always think of these two tunes as a complete whole. Allan just takes it to a completely higher plane on these compositions.
There's another one, look for 'Allan oui'.. Gong
@@ernestathari3441 Yes, Allan Qui off of the Gongzilla album
Just Monster Playing. R.I.P. Legend = Mr. Allan Holdsworth. Truly a Phenomenal Musician.
He really liked those unusual guitars, and man could he make them sing...
What a truly astonishing guitar player and musician he was. RIP sir.
I think this song has the longest and one of most beutiful solos Allan Holdsworth ever studio recorded
The 'white line' solo on 'then' is also very long and beautiful, but to my surprise 15 seconds shorter than this one!
the work he did on Bill Bruford's album "One of A Kind" is seriously stunning, and the same for his work on Jean Luc Ponty's "Enigmatic Ocean".
His solo on "The 4.15 Bradford executive" clocks in at 4 minutes 40 seconds...
Sorry and sad to hear he just passed away. His outstoundishing music will live on forever. Rest in peace, maestro. You will always be my favorite musician.
Thank you, Allan, for giving us this bountiful amount of gifts! When you choose to express your emotions through your music, we can feel. God's probably playing the drums for you now, keep on rocking in heaven.
Allan = the definition of a brilliant guitarist!
This astounding music can do many things . It either inspires me on some days , and other days , makes me want to turn my bass into a piece of furniture .
This makes me cry everytime...
Peace among you guys, Yes he passed away not a long time ago. i think we all can agree AH was not a guitar player. He was WAY MORE than that.
The greatest ever
The best... Original. Creative. Good lines. Extreme harmony. A genius!!
Thank you, Scott Devine...amazing bass solo!
Wrong... EVERY SIGNLE FUCKING THING ABOUT THIS SONG IS AMAZING
Harrison Crutcher WHAT !!!!!!!!! no it's not @!@@@@@!@!!!!!!!!!!!
I had this solo running through my head most of the summer of 2018.
Same here with the 4.15 Bradford Exec solo. Kept looping over & over in my brain.
so ahead of his time, even future aliens will be like... 'dude'
Future aliens wont *Be like* They *ARE like `dude`. Allan holdsworth is so ahead of his time, that the very man himself has traveled to the future. It's rumored that at 3 years old they put a Cmaj7+9+Pi+The Volume of the sun times Pi in his head to make him inspired of his future amazing music.
Just arrived in a place that I could never have imagined , can I stay please ? . Who needs time travel when you have this .
Holy shit, what a solo from Allen!
I miss the good ole days... when people actually made music.
scott devine and hadrien feraud brought me here!
being beforehand a fan of tribal tech, greg howe and holdsworth himself, i can say HOLY SHEET THIS PURE GODDAMN GOLD!!!
He come from Another galaxy R.I.P. god Allan Holdsworth
We have been visited indeed. Thanks forever, Alan.
RIP Allan! You will remain unequalled...
Nice to hear Steve Hunt playing acoustic piano too.
what a composer/player
way up there above the ground somewhere in space
Imagine an alternate dimension where Allan Holdsworth was a saxophonist that wanted to sound like a guitarist. LOL!!!
I remember hearing him at a clinic where he said he would really miss playing chords. Thus, in the dimension you propose Allan's playing would be full of multiphonics (perhaps akin to the "layered language" of Evan Parker).
Sometimes he sounds uncannily like a violin
so ... Michael Brecker? hahaha
Brand Inu beat me to it 😅
@@hubertvancalenbergh9022 Holdsworth began on violin before picking up on guitar, actually. In many interviews he said that he didn't care for the guitar that much, preferring for his phrasing to resemble a saxophone and/or violin. If you listen to his really early work, his tone and phrasing is especially violin-esque.
R.I.P Allan Holdsworth.
This is a piece of art love it.
You are so right!
"Peril Premonition" is the most vicious guitar playing I've EVER heard in recorded music.
Agreed!!!
Scott Devine again- great teacher. This is more inspiration than lesson!
A H....FOREVER AND BEYOND...
6:49 to 7:04 what a flurry!
nothing short of incredible
trip fusion!!!!!!! best solo ever
:-) SBL's the Real Secret to a Great Bass Tone took me to this amazing bass solo and awsome sound.
Ben Kicken Best fucking solo ever
+Ben Kicken I think the more interesting way to say sound of an instrument in tone of an instrument. I always say tone not sound because I like saying tone more.
RIP Allan Holdsworth. A truly phenomenal guitarist.
Those 12 people who disliked this music need to be found and have their ears removed!
it's probably too late
They don't have any ears, obviously.
16! :(
or no brain, capable of sensing beauty
Justin Pope Never a truer word was spoken. I feel sorry for them.
Allan Holdsworth, Inspiratie, bizarre genialiteit.
I always visualize my own little movies in my head listening to Allan's music. this song is an epic battle as it builds up to a climax
Just a Genius. That's all folks
great, great music !!!
Oh man, I thought I'd heard most of his solos, including some tasty ones w David Hines. Not heard this before, so many thanks!!
Probably my favourite album of all times. A true genius.
Surely one of his best tunes ever, along with The Un-Merry Go-Round and other incredibly brilliant stuff. AH is a true master, who unfortunately is not getting the attention he deserves. He is at least in the same league as McLaughlin & DiMeola, but has to play in front of 100 people. I have seen him play live like this twice. After more than 40 years of brilliant performances, this is not really justified...
Fantastic musicians and at 4:50 a monument to the glory of music and guitar
RIP Allan.
Guitar is not supposed to do this. It's not possible. Now I know why they thought Paganini was possessed by the devil...
Skuli on bass sounds so beautiful!
Scott Devine's references to Skuli Sverrisson appearing in track 3 of this album lead me here. A chance to listen to a bassist that inspired a bass teacher, and a composer that inspired Zappa was too much to pass up.
Thanks, Scott! And bobford100. And Allan Holdsworth.
Oh thanks a lot...... That fucking hypotism thing just nearly killed me. The damn monitor looked like it was getting closer and then I can't remember what happened. I will send you the bill.
Skull Sverrisson on bass!
+mikelus r oops. its skuli sverisson. hahaha.... but that was close enought! i found the cat! unbelievable musician!
Pardon.... the name is Skuli Sverrisson
no, pardon me. thank you very much, you were very helpfull! :D
+mikelus r ...fantastic !
this is the comment i was looking for, thanks! ;)
Uh... WOW! That bass solo was amazing!
@JPL1982 , I agree with your choices too.. Peril Premonition being my second favourite track ever.
You ever hear Allan's acoustic albums with Gordon Beck? He's unbeatable there as well.
This just gave me a bassgasm.
Really though, this song gave me goosebumps
From 5:30 on, he is just astounding how fluid and interesting (and more experimental?).
If this music was sent on the Voyager (assuming we could could go back in time), we would have certainly made contact with at least a dozen alien civilizations by now
Beautiful!
Scott Devine!
mee too... : )
+C. Theodor Stiegler Same here....
skatastolako the one that hs the lessons? how did you know that
Unbelievable!!!!!! It’s an outstanding solo hand claps for Scott
Beautyful.
Me too! awesome bass solo
Absolutely incredible ... The guitar here try to tell us something
thanks bobford100 for 'turning me on to this'.. we lost one of the 'truly musical pioneers' RIP Allan Holdsworth
The tone on the bass solo (2:48) is incredible. Thanks, Scott Devine, for the referral.
Great bass solo!
I love this
@vgraham44 not only guitar solo! in my opinion one of the greates improvisations ever!
Thanks for sharing Scott (Devine) .. beautiful.
Skuli is a a great bassist. He definitely has influences, but they're blended into his unique voice.
I wouldn't say that. They are both true giants at their instrument, but they are doing different things with it. All three players have an enormous respect for one another. DiMeola and McLaughlin are incredibly good on their acoustics, but when it comes to playing the electric guitar, none of them can reach AH's level. On this area, he is just unbeatable...
Rest in peace sweet prince.
i haven't seen people throw the word "shred" around much in fusion. They're just really the predominant guitar players in the genre. They play just as viciously and with as much feel as hancock or coltrane.
I followed Scott Devine here
THE MAN.
This is his best solo easily, even better than 4.15 Bradford or anything else after or from before this.
In other words, the best solo by the best guitarist ever. So I guess that makes it the best solo ever, right?
To me there is a connection between this solo and 4.15 Bradford Executive, so for me they are equal - but on another day I may choose 'The Drums Were Yellow' or 'Sixteen Men of Tain' - it depends on how I am feeling at any particular time!
I would agree with you. I have heard pretty much everything that Allan has recorded (at least that is available to me through the Internet), and I would have to say that out of all of them, this one blows me away the most. It has brought me to tears several times. His playing here is so profoundly emotionally intense.
It's so difficult to choose, but this solo along with the composition just hits a spot that nothing else can. Two others that come very close as personal favorites would probably be _Zarabeth,_ followed by his solo on Andrea Marcelli's _Final Project._ God, there's just so many though.
Also love Zarabeth and Dodgy Boat from Wardenclyffe Tower. Not quite as huge as Peril or Levels.... But still some awesome guitar passages.
And me, thanks Scott, Awesome bass solo
PTF, what I think is yeah right there will ever be anyone who plays as interesting to me Jazz and Jazz Fusion guitar as Allan Holdsworth
