This man taught me to see music with my ears. I became a better person and a far more intuitive musician listening to his genius. He has the most fulfilling chord changes in music. Period.
If you like Jazz fusion. I admire his talent, but his genre of music, to me, is too dry, soul less and too much aimless widdling while the drummer goes berserk. Not everything, I have a copy of "Sand" and there are a few tracks I really like. But Satriani is THE boy.
satchfan2010 yea hes good but hes not Holdsworth sowwy. Maybe he can do all the same technical stuff but the music is not at the same creative level in any of his projects.
This tune is so amazing, the pace of this song is just mind blowing. The solo Allan plays here is mesmerizing. I really can feel the intention that Allan had here. I have been listening to his music from 2007 and is has made me a better musician , better person overall this man just my main inspiration. Thank you Allan you changed my life for the better!
stargate669 Troll Alert Activated. I am not from the US mate. But what ever makes you happy to comment. My wife just read your comment and said . what is this guy even tying to say? Fail but funny:)
This is the Masterpiece of this album ! ! The Best of the Best ! The chords, chorus, the melody, the drums, the bass... All in this song is Beautiful, Marvelous... The Best of the Best...
I was listening to The Contortionist's language album.. Now I'm here. Some great talent out there. So much music to listen to, so little time. Thank God I can listen to music all day while I'm at work!
Thank you for the post. I have been listening to Allan H's music for more than thirty years. I never tire of hearing it. His music is work for the ages. I think he will become more appreciated over time. Can you imagine how beautiful and moving this piece would be if arranged for a symphony orchestra?
the best modern jazz fusion. these musicians are so musically far ahead of their time. and they themselves keep evolving each year. thanks for the upload
The chord progression at the beginning of this song makes me all at once deeply saddened, mystified, and filed with wonderment. Bravo, Holdsworth. You're simply the best.
Its with great sadness that I have heard that guitar pioneer genius Allan Holdsworth has passed away at the age of 70. It is well known that Allan Holdsworth was Eddie Van Halen's and Alex Lifeson's (Rush) biggest influence. He was a big influence on me too. His spirit/life force spoke the musical language of the Creator. Allan lived a very modest life and died poor. He never gave up on his musical vision. And he changed the way we look at guitar playing as his approach made it sound like a saxophone. But it was his guitar synthesizer work that was mind blowing. Chord voicings of the heavens and far galaxies. This piece is one of my favorites. One of the most hauntingly beautiful songs I have ever heard. Good bye Allan. You will be greatly missed.
When to se him play many moons ago in 91 playing at the leeds town and country club as my friend who was a massive Holdsworth fan couldn't make it through university commitments at the time;;;;I think Gary Husband was on drumjs at that period.. Fab!!
In the late 60's I worked for Peerless Photo Products in Rocky Point,L.I. in the actual building that was Tesla's Laboratory, though Wardenclyffe Tower was long gone. It is now in the process of becoming a museum.
it's such an amazing opening riff!as much as i enjoy his music and playing, sometimes i do miss moments like this or like these little riffs he played in lifetime or uk.
I was able to see Alan at a small club in Fort Lauderdale back in 91. Wackerman played at warp speed and after the set as Alan walked downstairs he gave me a friendly hello
@bestbass42 that's awesome man! i have to see him again, i saw him live in 2008 and had been listening to him a lot every day and it still blew me away! its like he never stops exploring and improving and he's already so good. my uncle was there with me and he described his chord melody playing as sounding like an aurora borealis. i would describe it as being transported to another world or flying through beautiful nebulae. what beauty and style!
Two people have disliked this, people shouldnt go on youtube when theyre drunk haha,Chad wackerman steels the show and then the synthaxe solo begins and never ceases to blow me away, simply brilliant
OMG I bought this album in 1992, and only today did I find out what Wardenclyffe Tower is/was. I am so blown away. Much like Bret Hart, Tesla got screwed.
RUclips comments are traditionally filled with hate, seem like holdsworth fans are nicer than the common fan lol, I'm starting to get into him as he was the main inspiration to my main inspiration on the guitar. greatest legato player and hopefully i can learn a thing or two
I stand corrected. It's Husband on Keys. I have the album in front of me as we speak. I concur with his work on the album, although he's not a favourite of mine. Vinnie's solo on against the clock is mind blowing though, very Williams-esque.
I came here because of secret of mana. That is an old Super Nintendo Video game from japan. It's soundtrack is partly influenced by Allan Holdsworth. I did not know him, but he is absolutly fantastic! Even in this track i find some patterns that are also present in secret of mana, very interesting!
Forgive me, I'm drunk, but this whole album is an ode to Nicola Tesla. I ordered this remastered cd off of cdbaby last week. Now all I need is a good audio system to play it on. Free energy to everyone!!!! We have the technology.
I just got the re-issued copy of this great album, I'm very disappointed with the lack of care the producers of this re-issue. First they made a mistake numbering the tracks, they jump track #8 that obviously do not exist. The worst lack of care is in the ending of the unmerry go round, part 4, they fade it away to early and after that the sound level increase and decreases until fade away completely... I do not find this acceptable, is a lack of respect to one of the most respectable musicians ever.
@gebass6 That sounds like a great idea and it's probably do-able! Bear in mind than Allan is probably using the synthaxe for those solos, so they are being fretted in a guitar like fashion! Good luck if you ever do try it again ;)
No, I can only buy digital releases. Where I live, physical deliveries by post from overseas or even Europe are often lost or arrive damaged, so I'm not risking it anymore. Plus the shipping costs are insane. So the digital is the only way for me.
The only (minor) flaw with this otherwise superb track is that Gary Husband's reedy solo sound (Korg M1 synth starting at 2:50) sounds too similar to AH's reedy guitar solo sound, and is in the rather muddy middle register. He uses the same synth patch on his solo album "Diary of a Plastic Box".
Anybody but me have also noticed hearing this track in depth ¡how important is a "driving" rhythm-bass ground! for a lead musician like Holds'? I mean, when you listen carefully there are certain details that go unnoticed to the common listener and IMHO are pure gold, I can differenciate an advanced musician to a 1-of-a-kind master musician. Certainly, that couldn't be possible without these extraterrestrial cats (Ch. Wackerman; J. Johnson). There's a lot to discover in a Holds' studio album.
yes, Tesla made the Wardenclyffe Tower. U probably can do a search and see Allan Views on Tesla, who he has a gr8 admiration for. U probably know that Allan is an innovator in technical things, guitars and electronics. He had a patent for some stuff to do with sound that I do know much about. Join "the unReal Allan Holdsworth" group on Facebook.
The 1992 CD booklet states: "'Electric power is everywhere present in unlimited quantities and can drive the world's machinery without the need of coal, oil, gas or any other fuels' Nikola Tesla"
Snuppeluppen søppelsopp I think there is bit more going on than that. He comes up with his own chords and scales that still have melodic and harmonic continuity. Hes a marvel.
try Moonjune Records which runs Allan's catalog , as well friend him on Facebook too.... also u can ask to join "The unReal Allan Holdsworth" group on facebook.
The only flaw with this ortherwise really fluid track track is that Gary Husband's solo synth sound (on a Korg M1) is too similar to AH's solo synthaxe sound.
miss you Mr Holdsworth. Not that we ever met but I love your work and it has been my pleasure to meet some of your colleagues : Eddie Jobson, Tony Levin and Jeff Berlin . Sorry Sam i think you'll find its Chad Wackerman and in my opinion and it is my opinion i might add he is the best drummer on this album sorry Gary and sorry Vinnie
This man taught me to see music with my ears. I became a better person and a far more intuitive musician listening to his genius. He has the most fulfilling chord changes in music. Period.
Holdsworth is simply the best, the colour, feeling and freedom he plays with as an improvising guitarist will never be equaled.
If you like Jazz fusion. I admire his talent, but his genre of music, to me, is too dry, soul less and too much aimless widdling while the drummer goes berserk. Not everything, I have a copy of "Sand" and there are a few tracks I really like. But Satriani is THE boy.
Satriani? L O L get outta here.
Satch is fucking amazing.
satchfan2010 yea hes good but hes not Holdsworth sowwy. Maybe he can do all the same technical stuff but the music is not at the same creative level in any of his projects.
Probably you should all wake up and stop writing such comments.
This tune is so amazing, the pace of this song is just mind blowing. The solo Allan plays here is mesmerizing. I really can feel the intention that Allan had here. ALLAN HOLDSWORTH is the Nikola Tesla of music!
it is fitting that he had an affinity for someone who went underappreciated in his life time
Closing my eyes and player guitar to this...Allan just makes the best music. Way ahead of his time.
RIP Allan, I just heard of the news, I am devastated!
Your music and creativity will live on forever!
Saw the man play, was only a few feet away. There will never be another AH. Much love buddy. RIP.
the best modern jazz fusion. these musicians are so musically far ahead of their time. and they themselves keep evolving each year. thanks for the upload
I have been on this track for the last 3/4 years, this is one of my favorite intro. He is a great composer
The chord progression at the beginning of this song makes me all at once deeply saddened, mystified, and filed with wonderment. Bravo, Holdsworth. You're simply the best.
Great Allan, always on mi mind, always on my spirit....
Space sounds like this such a beautiful piece of art love you Allan I'm sure you're in a beautiful place now
Allan is incredible, you'll never hear kids jamming his music in Sam Ash!
Nope.......and I like your tower and coil.
rouschno1 dont forget the cage ..
Amen
. . . nor will we ever see those same kids jamming
. . . ANYWHERE OR ANYPLACE WITH YO "TESLA STYLE" MOUSTACHE!!!
I am in San Jose, California friend. He lives on
I am sad that I never got to meet him. RIP Allan.
I can definitely hear his influence on Zappa, who said Allan Holdsworth was his favorite guitarist. Thx for the upload. :>)
does everyone's body do something involuntarily funny at 3:15 or is it just me? a belated and loving thank you Allan for all the moments.
Its with great sadness that I have heard that guitar pioneer genius Allan Holdsworth has passed away at the age of 70. he died poor? please don't make things up about a great man and artist.
Pas Thomas They did a crow fundraiser, took donations from fans in order to pay for his funeral 😞
Pas Thomas It is sad, but true. I know they raised over $60K though. A great artist does not necessarily mean a wealthy artist. He was a true artist
The master did not die poor
When to se him play many moons ago in 91 playing at the leeds town and country club as my friend who was a massive Holdsworth fan couldn't make it through university commitments at the time;;;;I think Gary Husband was on drumjs at that period..

Love this tune!

Allan and fucking power chords! 😍🥰!
Pure utter brilliance! Master of all the Masters!
2002 when i first here him, still love this song. no more guitarists who inspire us in this generation.
Fredrik Thordendal.
I found Allan through carti and I love it lol
ive been a fan of his since metal fatigue, hes the most talented unknown there is!
it's such an amazing opening riff!as much as i enjoy his music and playing, sometimes i do miss moments like this or like these little riffs he played in lifetime or uk.
Saudades Eternas.... I Miss You Forever....
Inspiring album on many levels, Allan was truly the Guitarists guitarist
I was able to see Alan at a small club in Fort Lauderdale back in 91. Wackerman played at warp speed and after the set as Alan walked downstairs he gave me a friendly hello
lucky YOU..really. I never got to see Allan live.
He began with his impressive work in Soft Machine's "Bundles", in this genre perhaps the best of the best.
That's where I discovered Allan, too.
Ah Yes, jazz rock fusion, I remember it well, Alan Holdsworth SYTH-AXE-GOD !!!
Two people have disliked this, people shouldnt go on youtube when theyre drunk haha,Chad wackerman steels the show and then the synthaxe solo begins and never ceases to blow me away, simply brilliant
RIP Allan Holdsworth
MASTERPIECE
....allan....
there will never be another you!
this song is just soooooo ,just a little dark, a little sexy, i love it!
The sound from 7:50 onwards gives me chills down my spine
OMG I bought this album in 1992, and only today did I find out what Wardenclyffe Tower is/was. I am so blown away. Much like Bret Hart, Tesla got screwed.
Chad Wackerman is the drummer on Track 3, Husband is on Keyboards for this track. Wackerman kills it on this track !
RUclips comments are traditionally filled with hate, seem like holdsworth fans are nicer than the common fan lol, I'm starting to get into him as he was the main inspiration to my main inspiration on the guitar. greatest legato player and hopefully i can learn a thing or two

Chad wacker man does work on this one!
RIP .
You can buy all of Allans remastered CDs direct from Allans website, see the link in decription.
Cool , Thank you :) QC
ominous? to me it simply sounds beautiful.
@gebass6 If you ever get round to it please record it & post on here. Its always interesting to hear other people interpretations of songs & tunes.
especially an interpretation of something as personal as Holdsworth.
rip allan

+Qstar Atma you were in cynic?
I ask myself the same question after reading that! I hope it's true.
SynthAxe and baritone guitar power!
ALLAN and NIKOLA..
RIP Allan
@Mattius946 No probs my friend!!! I Saw him playing 'live' last week @ The Robin 2 club in Wolverhampton, pure class mate-pure class!!!
wish this comment was today😥
I meant free energy for everyone.
"buy the CD-the quality is a million times better than anything you'll hear on youtube!!! " - PERFECT QUOTE!
[LULA LIVRE!]
Indeed
It's Hold and he's a great thinker.
@gebass6 That sounds like a great idea and it's probably do-able! Bear in mind than Allan is probably using the synthaxe for those solos, so they are being fretted in a guitar like fashion! Good luck if you ever do try it again ;)

Sure is dedicated to the wardenclyffe tower by Nikola Tesla in NY. The tower was build to extend the A.C. in wirless mode!!!!

Exactly, this kind of tunes doesn't have an specific rhythmic pattern so it's more important to have a solid and intuitive bass player and drummer
This remastered version is way too good! I can't find any website that sells it though...
Husband on this particular track
ALLAN HOLDSWORTH is GOD !!!
yes, Tesla made the Wardenclyffe Tower.

gone too soon.
The 1992 CD booklet states: "'Electric power is everywhere present in unlimited quantities and can drive the world's machinery without the need of coal, oil, gas or any other fuels' Nikola Tesla"
this song is great... i think Holdsworth wrote this song sounding somewhat ominous because some of Tesla's ideas werepretty scary.
amazing! who is the drummer?
Fuck, so this is where that crazy jazzy chromaticish sound comes from. Frederick T, youve some aplaining to do.
I think of it as a good thing for metal...though you can clearly hear it.
+Nathaniel Prince Coulter What Holdsworth do is to basicly play saxophone on the guitar.
Snuppeluppen søppelsopp I think there is bit more going on than that. He comes up with his own chords and scales that still have melodic and harmonic continuity. Hes a marvel.
Nathaniel Prince Coulter Of course.
try Moonjune Records which runs Allan's catalog ,

NICOLA TESL A - WAS NOBEL AND OVERINTELIGENT WE OWE HIM ELECTRICITY
Sorry Sam i think you'll find its Chad Wackerman and in my opinion and it is my opinion i might add he is the best drummer on this album sorry Gary and sorry Vinnie
Tesla won bro, we use AC today.
He also got the bid for Niagara falls and Edison will go down as the guy who tortured a man to death with electricity.
Radio would have been credited to Tesla, but Marconi stole the show, unrealised dreams
Is this related to Nikola Tesla in any way? If you know please reply.
Yes , the genius of Tesla
so corny
robbie avenaim Agree. The synthaxe is a blot on his otherwise distinguished career
+robbie avenaim Go and listen to Justin Beiber.
