    I really liked the first DD. So far the second one is good, but it’s very similar to the first one. I expected more improvements considering it’s been over 10 years since the first one came out. It is still a good game but i am a little disappointed.

    • @fizzyshellfish5439
      @fizzyshellfish5439 3 месяца назад +8

      Agreed. It looks and plays like a remaster of the first game. I've only played a few hours, so it's too early to have a full opinion. I'm extremely disappointed with the UI. It looks ancient, blocky and ugly. And using it is not very intuitive.

    • @obedear_
      @obedear_ 3 месяца назад +8

      Yeah I’m super surprised by the glowing reviews. I can see the appeal in terms of the combat and exploration but the world feels so stale. There is zero depth to any of the characters, none of them feel like actual people. The script and voice acting is bland as heck, the pawns’ banter is infuriatingly repetitive and everything they say just makes them feel like a walking manual page. The awkward way pawns introduce themselves in the world is so off putting. It’s hard to get invested in a world when everything about it feels so emotionally sterile.

    • @j-r-m7775
      @j-r-m7775 3 месяца назад +5

      @@obedear_ I agree with most of what you said and that’s exactly how the first game was. It was all about the combat, the RPG aspects leveling up your guy, open world etc. The story and character “development” were pretty stale in the first one.
      Despite all of that, I’m kind of a sucker for these action-RPG type of games, with a big world, tons of loot and upgrades with lots of quests. So I’m still enjoying it. But I did expect more from it considering we’re in 2024 TWELVE years after the first one was released.
      The improvements to the game seem like a sequel that came out two or three years after the original not over a decade.
      That being said, I don’t regret buying it. Though I can understand if someone did.

    • @robertrainford6754
      @robertrainford6754 3 месяца назад +2

      @@j-r-m7775 I would say it’s slightly less impressive than the first game so far. Dragons dogma was known for the combat and the classes, so I do not understand why they would a cut down the skills from six to four. That really bothers me especially with the sorcerer class.

    • @j-r-m7775
      @j-r-m7775 3 месяца назад

      @@robertrainford6754 Definitely considering we’re in 2024 It’s certainly much less impressive than the original one was for a 2012 game.
      But I still think it’s a better overall game. After playing DD2 for a few hours and noticing how similar it was, I I opened up the original game for the first time in years and played it for five minutes, just to see how it held up.
      The second one is definitely superior in most aspects. But not anywhere near to the degree that I thought it would and should be.
      If you compare the original Witcher which came out in 2007 to Witcher 3 which came out in 2015 it’s not even in the same universe.
      And that was only eight years apart. Actually, the difference between Witcher 2 and Witcher 3 is still WAY bigger than DD vs. DD2 and that was only 4 years apart.
      But regardless of all that, I’m still having fun playing DD 2. One things for sure is all the drama about the “micro transactions” was dumb as fuck. The things you can buy don’t even help you that much and you can get them anyway. It’s so not a big deal just don’t buy them.
      As far as your point about the skills, I hear you, but it’s so easy to change them plus you have “core skills” too so it didn’t bother me very much.

I don't know if this screams 9.5 to me, but at least there's Capcom's insatiable Monster Hunter-like hook to keep up engagement. It is curious to hear their take on performance, in that "it's fine". Other outlets seem to take issue with the in town CPU bottleneck that causes the game to drop to the 20s. That, paired with the unlocked framerate makes for a very inconsistent and jarring frame pacing IMO as well.
    Additionally CAPCOM seems to have deliberately withheld info. regarding micro-transactions which is a pretty rotten move. And I am very cynical regarding the idea that the omission of a "New Game" mode was accidental - meaning that you get 1 Save/1 Playthrough, and that's it.

      The Mtx thing is a non issue. the limitations in DD existed before in the first game it's part of the design and you can ignore them entirely.
      All those items are found in games Easily. not only you can have them in the first hours, you can also duplicate them without issue by making copies witch was a thing in the first game as well.
      And the 1 save 1 playthrough was in the first game and it's part of the plot too AND it's tied o the pawn system with is something only dragon dogma does.

      It’s confirmed every early copy was given a document detailing what microtransactions are in the game. They’re just so inconsequential that reviewers don’t seem to care talking about them.
      Only one save is a design choice I am not too keen about since the first game but it’s also not that big of a deal and it’s certainly not a unique game in that regard. Pokémon, Zelda and Armored Core all did it and no one bats an eye.

    This is exactly the type of game I need when Im just about to finish FF7 Rebirth. Rebirth is good but dam, way too many mini games in the side quests which also have interesting story/bonding moments with the characters. They should have had a third tier for the game, Main quests, side quests, and keep mini games separate. The OG had them too but not as many and most were relegated to Gold Saucer- plus they were easier in the OG. This game looks like a great palette cleanser to just get immersed in the World.

    @trignite 3 месяца назад +9

    I have put in 26hours since the game launched.. (yes I haven't gone to bed yet). I dont think the game is that great. 9.5 is insanity. The story is completely uninteresting, all the side quests have MMO esque objectives and dialog. I met the spearmaster and he says he has this cool style for fighting dragons, the dialog ends and then you get a popup that you unlocked the class. No cool introduction, nothing. I then talked to that same NPC 20hours later at a village very very far away and his two lines of dialog were completely the same. The combat Looks cool as a spectacle.. but 90% of the main enemies you fight are just reskins of the enemies from DD1 with some minor moveset changes. And the game is far easier than DD1 there is no challenge at all! I barely ever use any of the healing items, and can take down the miniboss enemies very easily. The health of these monsters is so small that the balance feels totally broken. Doing 2/3rd of the bosses HP (an entire bar) by spamming square for the combo is just silly. I had to go out of my way to use the beginner weapons because everything dies way, way too quickly to the point where I dont get to enjoy the combat. Inventory management is absolutely godawul I spent more time moving gear out to pawns than playing the game I felt.
    Worst issue is the pawns constantly walking into water and killing themselves, or spawning in the air and falling to their death. Since you cant load previous autosave and only inn save which is usually 2-6hours behind its so stupid. I only had one challenging situation in the waterfall cave where I had 20% hp, all 3 of my pawns walked into the water and died and cant be revived, I cant reload save, cant ferrystone out because its blocked in caves.. Even when you do get out you gotta run to find some new pawns. You could ferrystone from outside the cave but then the run back will take 30mins. There's so many little janky things that make no sense like having to push a button after anNPC says 3 words so you can go to next line.

    • @Hawkenwhacker
      @Hawkenwhacker 3 месяца назад +9

      That's the thing though, isn't it? Games have conditioned us to *_not think._* There is nothing wrong with being guided while you're playing. However, one can take the logic, that the game encourages, into the real world. There may be moments when you're on your own, and have to problem solve what to do next. You're forced to observe, learn and think on your feet. Not being guided can also be liberating, as you're not shackled to do X before you can Y, when, deep down, you just want to ignore and explore.
      You never know just how much you can learn and grow if you allow yourself to get out of your comfort zone. Roam, make decisions, and understand them.

    • @charoleawood
      @charoleawood 3 месяца назад +1

      It's seen as a benefit both in Zelda and Elden Ring --- I think Huber's review takes a rather defensive, explanatory tone as though there aren't already games that respect players' intelligence.
      If you want guidance it's available through the Pawn system.
      As you play through and recruit other players' Pawns those will come with quest knowledge and you can instruct them to guide you directly to a critical location.
      Early in the game you'll find fewer cheap pawns with this knowledge, but that's ok, because it makes the beginning of the journey an open book and players will have unique experiences as each takes a different path through the world and its quests.

      As far as the elements in the first DD, they _were_ janky. I remember trying to jump on some ledges, and getting caught on a box. I jump off the box, try to jump on the ledge and get caught on the box again. I walk a bit _farther_ and *finally* I can climb the ledge I was aiming for. It only becomes a problem when we interpret *jank* as entirely bad. Overall, a game can be both amazing but janky in their execution.

    For some context, I must have beaten the original more than a dozen times. I re-played it just a few months ago to prepare for this release. This sequel definitely has a number of improvements, but sadly, it also has some drawbacks.

    A great review 9.5, For the people that keep mentioning it has micro transactions it's optional. All capcom games have it look at devil may cry 5 a single player game🤣. I'm enjoying dragon's dogma 2 I absolutely love dragon's dogma dark arisen i'm still enjoying that game as well.

  • @cloudrise
    @cloudrise 3 месяца назад +18

    The microtransition debacle is so overblown it is honestly ridiculous. You're just gaining a handful of additonal item(s) that you'll be getting in game anyway. Not only that, I have for example the arguably most controversial item, the portcrystal, have been playing most of today, and haven't used it at all. It has sat in my storage. Fast travel *is* still rare currently even with it. To even make use of it you need a consumable Ferrystone, and I found *two* in all my travels today. And the only other one I saw was 10k from a vendor which is way expensive, particularly early on. These are not pay to win items by any means, virtually none of them on offer are. And to top it off, you can only buy them all *once*. People genuinely need to STFU and stop whining. They are OPTIONAL.

    • @CaptainTitforce
      @CaptainTitforce 3 месяца назад +1

      So what you are saying, is that YOU didn't use something you paid for, and even if you would use it, that item is useless without something else? Sounds like a great defense of shitty mtx practices.
      And it's also horseshit that they are just "optional". If there wasn't an incentive to buy them, then they wouldn't be sold for real money.
      The developers themselves said that traveling around the world should be fun, so that you don't need fast travel. Then why sell the option for extra money, if traveling was made to be interesting?

    sorry but this is crazy as I've never disagreed with any of EA's reviews....until now. I'm OK with the game so far but it's nowhere near a 9.5. "it performs pretty well on PS5 with uncapped 30fps"....yeah and drops below...with stuttering in fights, towns and where there are multiple things on screen. This isn't good enough for a PS5 only game (on ps systems) and yet they get a pass? I don't need it to be 4k 60 but performance can't be ignored and that's what EA are doing here....pretty disappointed tbh. It's not a balanced, objective review - clearly they liked it and that's fine, there are good qualities but come on, its a remaster of the OG really. The UI is pretty clunky, the fights, the world. It's a remaster and that's OK but at full price, it needs to be better certainly on performance and certainly with a few more QOL features. Fans just saying "well the original was like this" - well yeah, that was 12 years ago. I think consumers can't expect to hopefully see some improvements in a follow up game but there just aren't really any and it still has the same issues. But with even worse performance. I don't care about the Microtransactions really as it's negligible but it's hack and slash and the world isd a little bland and clunky and the UI is bad and the performance is bad currently. So how about an 8?

  • @renegeeder

    Could be a decent game, but Capcom screwed it up. No matter what platform, it runs horribly and the game doesn't have the graphics to match. For that alone this game should not receive anything higher than a 6 until issues are resolved.
    Refunded the game yesterday, maybe I'll check it out again later if issues are resolved and with a heavy discount.
    I'm also gonna laugh my ass off if most of these performance issues are because of Denuvo.

      @@renegeeder so far haven’t experienced much issues, except game features that should of been fixed from the first game, and some stuff it actually set back. My biggest problem with the game is they lowered the skills from 6 from the last game too 4 in this one. This makes it even more aggravating when you can only change your skills at a inn. It was stupid in the first game, and lowing the amount of skills pared with that is just dump.

      @@CaptainTitforce What do you want me to say? It's true lol 😂. I'm not the only one that it works fine for. I'm on a 1700$ gaming laptop with a laptop GPU(4070 but really it's a 4060) with 7gbs of memory and 32 gigs of ram. I do have an i9 13900 so maybe that's why my frames are fine but I'm literally almost maxing the memory out on the GPU and I've experienced no glitches or weird frame drops. Half way mark on processing power so my CPU is still fine. I don't know what to tell you other than I'm getting 60 fps quite consistently throughout everything and also have everything max at 1440p as well as RTX.
