I’ve been a fan of ANUNA since 1993 - yup when Michael and John were callow youths!! - I’ve heard Monica Donlan make this her own…. I’ve heard Lorena McKennitt perform it; I’ve had this sung in many a church… BUT this will go down as THE DEFINITIVE version. Ashling brings the gentleness of a baby, the softness of a father looking at his child, a mother’s disbelief that who she’s known for 9 months is actually here…the perfect articulation of such an important message. She is strong as the shepherds approach the stable and find out they are not hallucinating and it is real… and peaceful, delicate, loving… loving for us all. He’s come on earth to end all strife. We need to hear that at the end of 2021 as another stage of a pandemic hits us. Thank you Lucy and Michael for giving us all your daughter. I’m sure yer very proud. This will be groundbreaking. Very pretty. However, Alison Krauss has become the gold standard for singing the Wexford Carol. Alison Krauss' voice is like fine crystal resonating through every note.

Probably better to have stopped at “very pretty”. There’s room in my ears for all sorts of beautiful voices. We can listen to Anuna AND Alison Krauss and appreciate them both for what they are - two wonderful and wonderfully different entries into the catalog of this haunting carol.
