      Car companies these days have become obsessed with focus groups telling them what they think they want, so every car in a class ends up very similar. Back in the "good old days", car makers just made something and you either bought it or not. A lot of people didn't get the Renault Espace when first released, but now MPV's are everywhere. No focus group would have told Renault they needed a van with lots of seats and windows.

    • @donswier
      @donswier 3 года назад +20

      True ...The most beloved and iconic cars are just ONE man's idea:
      VW transporter and Austin Mini would never have made it past a focus group of Sheeple who would have been disturbed by the stark utility of those legends.

    I think this is the most particular and peculiar car collection I’ve seen , so pure, I think with the money he has invested in them he could’ve buy lots of more usual cars, but he has such a particular reason to any each car, I think I’m not explaining myself clearly but the point is that I love his tastes for cars.

    • @redlion145
      @redlion145 3 года назад +8

      He buys what he likes, not what people are "supposed" to like when they have money. It shows genuine enthusiasm instead of merely signaling affluence.
      I also think it takes some balls to exhibit cars from other manufacturers in a room designed to sell your new T50s. If I were in the market for a new supercar and I could afford the 3.1 million for a T50s, I'd take one look around that showroom and probably try to buy the Abarth 2000 or one of those Lotus cars.

    • @donquixoteupinhere
      @donquixoteupinhere 2 года назад

      @@redlion145 that’s a really good point actually! Hadn’t thought of that. Slightly risky business really isn’t it unless you are very confident/do not give a toss. I am pretty sure it’s both of those reasons!

    • @moogle68
      @moogle68 2 года назад

      @@donquixoteupinhere Well, it's not *that* risky, since the car he's selling is a very different car to the ones in the collection. It's made for the modern age, and is made to break records that exist today, the cars in the collection are from the past, and may have been top of their game at those points in time, but simply won't do for someone looking for the levels of performance offered by one of the most capable supercars of the modern day.

    There are several dozen Gordon Murray interviews around on video, and to my point of view this one is by far the most informative. Through Murray's discussion of his collection, you learn not only how Murray thinks in terms of design and engineering decisions, but how he came to appreciate what he values.

    i had no idea he worked on the slr. one of my favorite cars. its pretty weird how he's worked on a lot of my favorite machines only to realize later that he designed them. i guess he didn't actually design the slr's body, but still interesting that he worked on it. what an awesome interview and tour. from the brabham bt 52, mp4/4, fan car, f1 mclaren, slr, lcc rocket, now the t50, t50s. he's done so many interesting things. its not just one focus of luxury or out performance, but just a guy that makes what he wants, and has been very fortunate to be in the right places at the right times. motoring wouldn't be the same without his influence, and philosophies.

    The T50S has almost the same power to weight ratio (close to 0.83 HP/kg) as a Koenigsegg One : 1 on regular pump gas (0.85 HP/kg) not including the driver. So Cosworth almost matched all that Turbo boost by spinning the engine 50% faster with ram induction! God this will be seriously quick.

    • @carsforlife1334

      People were quick to underestimate the t50 and t50s because "oh it doesn't have 900bhp, " oh its a manual gearbox why isnt it dual clutch" yet what people dont realise is this. if the ariel atom v8 is quick at 500kg and 500bhp watch how quick the t50 and t50s will be some context of how much lighter the t50s is than most super/hyper cars today.
      Chiron=1.9tonnes(1900kg)
      Noble m600=1.25tonnes(1250kg)
      Pagani huayra=1.35tonnes the bc and imola may be lighter(1350kg)
      Even the 765lt is around 1.3tonnes and the t50 is under a tonne or (986kg) t50s is less than 900, so it will be pretty fast no doubt about that.
