This emulator has made me so happy. It’s fantastic. I used to own a Jaguar and a handful of games for it. Sold it 15 years ago for no good reason for almost nothing. What a dumb move. At least now I can play proper Tempest 2000 again on any PC with any controller, which is awesome.
I got randomly recommended this video and well what a pleasant surprise that it took an official Atari collection to get a great Jaguar emulator. Usually commercial emulators that are made for collections like that are only optimised for the games included and its even better that it is being released publicly too.
It’s so bizarre that this releases literally the day after I just explained to someone that Iron Soldier 1 and 2 would never be possible to emulate due to unknown documentation of the memory arbiter. Ok, it looks like somebody has fulfilled the impossible mission, but how tf did they do it?
The dude said it came from the Atari 50 collection. It's probably an illegal rip like that one Saturn emulator from way back in the day. That one was threatened with legal action by Sega because it was based on Sega's own official Saturn emulator they used in the PC version of a Panzer Dragoon game. This one might suffer the same fate, so download it before it gets harder to find. And specifically about the memory arbiter, the creators of the emulator probably had the documentation they needed since the emulator is an official piece of software.
The problem of the Jaguar was not the power. The games was the problem. AvP was a eyecatcher but the balance was very bad and most of the other games, was like snes games.
Well this is exciting. NOTICE: this developer needs Jaguar CD hardware donated so he can try to get THAT working for us. THAT opens up some GREAT indie game titles and GORF!
This is very good news for Atari Jaguar boys like me who never really played one yet. But I do believe it was a fluke when you said that, " it was better than the real thing." in the beginning of the video. But as far as saving money and not going out and looking for the games and have it come to you on electronic mail is great. I'm playing the Yaba Sanshiro Pro Saturn emulator on Android and it's it sucks. I even bought the pro version but it was almost there. But when you said it's Atari Jaguar is perfected that's good news thank you for post🕹🐅
Well, you'll be pleased to know the RUclips Algorithm caught you, or I'd NEVER have heard of this emulator this soon! The good news is its very presence. In fact, I went to the webpage and downloaded it BEFORE I started watching! XD The bad news is it STILL don't save Super Cross 3D. Even at Triplespeed (the highest setting for RISC and 68K). Plus, Tempest 2000 still runs perfectly, heck, smoother than smooth, at Triplespeed; it's like it's intended to be scalable, just in case the Jaguar 2 would be an actual thing! XD Also, AvP isn't affected by the speed, it Just Plain Runs. And that's all we really need, don't we? :p And Rich Whitehouse, if you're reading this, this liberated emulator just EARNED your bosses an eventual purchase of Atari50 for a system of my choice! :D (possibly PS5 Physical)
Very impressive how far emulation has come. Looking forward to finally try out well playing Jaguar games. Selling the original Jaguar console now could be a good idea as more and more people are getting access to the games for free and less and less people are willing to pay high prices for these old consoles.
I love the jaguar, its not perfect by any means but there's just something about it. I'm so glad the emulation has finally been fixed as jag prices are totally retarded but then again most of the prices are when it comes to retro gaming.
8:36 Uhhh, what? No nonono, the Jaguar version has always been the best way to play Tempest 2000 my dude. And no, it’s not perfect. A number of games on BigPEmu still have quirks (timing/accuracy issues, glitches, audio crackling, etc.) BigPEmu still has long ways to go before it is up to par with original hardware. It even has yet to support all of its add-on peripherals like the Jaguar CD and Jaglink.
There's a patch that's supposed to fix the steering in Checkered Flag but I don't think it did much. This would be a decent game if it weren't for that problem.
The Jagwah as you put it was so hindered by its own performance at release.. this does give a fresh perspective on a handicapped console really as if we can get maybe more games released for it, if someone is mad enough, it'd be interesting to see

@Yurt Dweller kind of expensive and takes a bit to get (in Australia I believe) but I have a lot of his Adapters and they are the best around. 💯 plug and play
Being playing with it as well. It is very good .. definitely better than the previous good emulator “Phoenix”. My only issue so far is the cartridge selection menus freeze solid regularly which requires killing the emulator. But once a game is running I have had zero issues.
Looks really good, even emulation has hindered the Jaguar's reputation in how poor it was before this. Such a pain the ass to find one that I could afford so I'm not letting my Jag go anytime soon lol, but this is great for everybody else that wants to try the platform. I never realized how isolated a game platform can get without a good emulator since you can't rely on fringe enthusiasts like myself to keep a following going, a lot of vinegary bitter Jag fans out there. ;) Emulation can be a good diagnostic tool too, turning off layers and effects, see how the performance varies to make better homebrew engines for the platform Ie. some 3D setups weren't right for the Jag hardware.
Pretty neat! I have no interest in any Jaguar game, even its exclusives, but I'm sure its fans will be happy knowing better emulation is coming to it. I've noticed that by overclocking it, as expected and at least for the ones you showed, the game logic doubled its speed as well, instead of just resulting in a smoother framerate, this is due to the gameplay being tied to the lower rate from the ground up. It also happens with some PS1 games, Mega Drive games such as Road Rash will go crazy if overclocked over 200% too, while others, such as Driver 2, Chrono Cross and many more, gets smoother gameplay (mostly locked 30FPS, some even 60), without breaking the game. Doom, Checkered Flag, etc are basically unplayable here.
