Thank you for recommending this box! I had thought about doing something like this for gouache and watercolor so I would have extra-large wells, but in my quick searches I was only finding boxes with the removable dividers. I found your recommended box at Michaels and was pleased by how inexpensive it was (a plus!) I have now had it filled with Liquitex Basics (straight from the tube) for a month or so, and the paint is still completely wet. I did initially spray the paints with a little bit of water and have done that a few more times, but I am not sure it is really necessary, as they never really appear to be any more dry/thickened than before, but I still give them a spritz to be safe. The one other thing I did do, though I am not sure it is strictly necessary, is stretch a piece of plastic wrap (Cling Wrap, Sarah Wrap) across the area of the wells before closing the lid. I have found that when opening the box, this plastic remains stretched and attached to the lid, meaning it does not start bunching up and sticking to itself like one might imagine. It just remains there neatly, even though I had originally smoothed the excess plastic down around the box sides, not the lid, if that makes sense. But this means I can open and close it without problems and any extra effort and the plastic remains like a membrane on the underside of the lid. I assume this is making it more air tight, although I never notice any condensation on the inside of the box, as you might imagine you would see. Maybe it is not airtight or maybe that just has to do with the current temp/humidity in my house. But in any case, the paint is not drying! Whoo hoo!

Great set up! I've been slowly moving closer to having an acrylic paint box. And this is excellent inspiration to take the plunge!

    1st, Benjamin is beautiful
    Your space is inviting
The palette box is a brilliant idea. Part of my watercolor love is about the easy grab of the palettes. This never dawned on me before 🙂 Thank you, I will figure this in 💚🪺🪻

Benjamin is both adorable and awful lol. I have black paw prints all over my floor right now 😂 Yes! Getting in and out has to be easy for me or I just won’t sit down. In the early days it would take me forever to set up and clean up and I can get in and out in a minute now. So much easier to just sit down even if it’s only 15 minutes because it’s not taking that long to set up!

Thanks Lauren, definitely going to set up a palette box. I have a small one for gouache but never thought about using a larger one for acrylics.😊

For the tray with the paper towels…..you can quiet a little hydrogen peroxide on the tray before you put the paper towels down and will keep mold from growing…..

Hi Lauren ... do you by any chance have a link to the palette box you're using? I've been looking unsuccessfully for a similar box with fixed divisions with no luck! TIA

Hi! Sorry I’m late in replying! I was down for the count from surgery. It’s this one from Michael’s. Nothing fancy. Hope this helps! www.michaels.com/product/17-compartment-bead-organizer-by-bead-landing-10091119?michaelsStore=7754&inv=7
