    Thank you Nikki
I really needed this this year. My mom died a few weeks ago and my daughter moved away yesterday so I was feeling pretty down about the holidays. Now I have some better uplifting ideas❤️

You’re absolutely right. As always. When I divorced my daughter was 3.5 y.o. It was just the two of us because my family lived far away from us, so I didn’t see a reason to have holiday parties just for us both. Then I thought: why not? It’s not JUST the two of us; it’s THE TWO OF US AND WE’RE ENOUGH. From then on we would have Christmas, New Year, Easter, the whole shebang, including home decor and dressing for the occasion. 30 years have passed and she was telling my husband last Saturday when she was over how special those days were, and how much fun we had. It’s worth it.

Great ideas. I’m alone now and started just going to a movie Christmas Day.

I would add to decorate your home and cook a nice holiday dinner for yourself even if it’s just you. The decorations make a big difference. It really feels like you are missing out so much more if you don’t decorate

Go to the movies on Christmas Day.. Go to a Chinese Restaurant for Christmas Dinner. Go to a Retirement Home and take a gift.

I get so caught up in my own usual Christmas agenda that it literally never dawned on me that families of military members may be alone on the Holidays! I've always thought of the elderly and widows, but never military families 🤯 Thank you so much for sharing this with us and speaking from the heart! I think I know someone I can make time for now this Christmas season!! 🎄 Love your video!! 💜 🤗 💜

This is such a valuable subject matter - having a wonderful holiday celebration alone instead of just coping ! Thank you so very much Nikki !! I have been estranged from all of my family for over a decade now ( 13 Christmases to be exact ) & although I am not alone ( I am blessed with a wonderful , loving Husband ) , after so many years celebrating with a large immediate & extended family it has been a process to come up with meaningful ways to celebrate with just the 2 of us . 💕💕💕

@Phyllis Sam Kooistra - Your story is exactly like my husband and me. I have a small family brother and niece that spend time with
others than inviting my husband and me that hurts deeply, This is the first year over 13-15 years we have been invited to a home for Christmas Breakfast. I cry a lot every year from hurt being alone.
Thank God for our new church friends who cared enough to invite
people to their home for Breakfast this year. God Bless💙

I love your motivation and attitude towards life and everything in it. I'm spending the holidays by myself. No one wants to spend the holidays with me so I'm just gonna cook for myself and watch movies and football. I don't have anyone to really do anything with. No friends, no family.

Wow, I've never been first to reply! Thanks Nikki! I worked for the Air Force most of my Civil Service career and always enjoyed inviting someone home! I retired from CS as the person that asked all of the questions for Backgrounds!

Thank you Nikki for your tips and inspiring words! My condolences to others here who have lost loved ones and will be alone for the holidays - I understand because I lost my husband and mother, I have no children and my friends are usually busy with their families, so I am adjusting and learning how to enjoy the holidays by myself now. It’s comforting to read the comments here and know that many of us face this every year. Now, instead of feeling sad for myself, I embrace it by planning something nice for myself and being grateful for all the good things in my life. For Thanksgiving, I got myself a Thanksgiving meal and enjoyed it while watching Fall Hallmark movies. I will do the same for Christmas Day. My husband and I had a tradition every New Year’s Eve of having champagne and appetizers while watching the festivities on TV - since he passed away, I have continued this same tradition every year myself and know he is with me in spirit. Also, I have learned that celebrations don’t have to be on the actual holiday - I plan a few things with friends around the holidays and that helps, too. Planning and doing something special for yourself will make you feel better. I also treat myself to a special Christmas gift every year. Happy Holidays to you all!

Thank you so much for creating this video. I cannot tell you how much I needed to hear this today. Two years ago I lost both of my parents, one to Alzheimer’s disease and the other to a stroke three months later. As this was during the holidays, this is a particularly difficult time and I am adjusting to spending the holidays alone. God bless you Nikki! Watching your video has brought me to tears, not of sadness but of gratitude.

I was just thinking yesterday how much fun we had over Thanksgiving trading texts and pictures with extended family. My niece and family at beach & others at home. It’s one thing we can all take from lockdowns being apart doesn’t mean being alone.

Although I am fortunate to still have my mother with me, I know that someday I will be trying to figure out what to do at holidays since I am a lifelong singleton with no kids. I do have a very close friend that I could spend the time with, and could travel to my only siblings’ (out of state) to visit him. However, I’ve always wanted to spend a holiday season in Austria or Germany at the Christmas Markets-those folks really know how to celebrate! That’s one option to consider-still alone but very festive and unusual. You definitely get us thinking and planning with these videos!

Just like most of the comments below, great timing Nikki. With mom's passing 2 weeks ago, I have no idea what Christmas will look like. Everyone has their spouses or little family units, so I may have to get creative myself. And I appreciate the variety of organizing tips as well as life/home/planning in general tips. No need to be kept in a box. ;-) Catch you tomorrow Friendgirl.

Great video, Nikki.❤ In my opinion your number one tip is to PLAN. I plan a special project, quilting or Cross-stitch, enjoy my Christmas tree lights and music, a couple chats with long-distance friends, A movie or series along with Knitting. A very fulfilling day once I put a positive and planning twist on it. Thanks for all your tips. I’m sure this is a timely video for many of us🎉

That's exactly this. Great video. I moved to Brazil and my family was back in Toronto, Canada...first CHristmnas here, I had no family but I had made some friends who didnt have family in the State I was in, Rio de Janeiro, either. We got together to celebrate it and it was awesome...each of us cooked some dish and we had plenty of food, booze and, most importantly, we had tons of laugh and spent a great time together. It was the first time I had spent Xmas without my parents, grandparents and siblings. It was tough, but I had a great time with my new friends. Nowadays we always make sure to spend New year's eve together.
Speaking of movies, I just loveeeee watching "Home Alone" during the xmas season...watching that movie always puts me in a good mood.
