We had a small tree like these with white blossoms that produced a sweet fruit the birds loved. Fruit was larger than these cherries but smaller than plums with about the same sweetness and taste? I can't figure out what tree it was, we did have a plum tree also right across from it. Anyone or any experts know what type of tree we had or if there was some cross pollination happening etc????
Hi there Elsa, Black Tartarian is a sweet cherry tree variety and will pollinate other sweet cherries such as Bing, Rainier, Stella, Van, or Lapins to make fruit. It will not pollinate sour cherry tree varieties but that's alright because all sour cherry varieties are self-pollinating and don't need a second tree to make fruit. I hope this helps! -Whit
The cherry tree which l brought from bazar have a violet flower and its fruit look similar to your cherry ,with small sour taste. is they are real cherry pls reply🙍♀️
Hi, the best varieties would be Montmorency for Tart Cherry and Rainier for Sweet Cherry. Here is the link for all the details: www.naturehills.com/fruit-trees-and-plants/fruit-trees-and-plants-varieties/cherry-trees
best and only working method are nets in the Season after Flower.. other method is sharing or plant later ripening strains. Later in the Season birds have more of other opportunitys to eat.
Of course, Bing is the best. I live in WA, the cherry capital of the world You cannot find any Bing here, in stores I found out that ALL orchards, in Wenatchee and Yakima, sell ALL of their Bing cherries, to Japan - a terrible breach, since Western WA, has subsided their farms, plus we have supported them, for decades, by paying top dollar, in stores. I know two people whose families own orchards, who confirmed that they sell all, to Japan who pay much more. So I wrote a polite letter, to the WA cherry growers association The president replied, with 35 paragraphs ( I am not exaggerating) denying that. PCC, Whole Foods, QFC and others, have told hey that they cannot order Bing cherries! So, this is a grave ordeal, and is based on a heinous greed.
Hi Tess, there are a few reasons this might be happening. 1. Some Cherry trees need to cross-pollinate with another suitable variety that is planted nearby. These will mostly be sweet cherry varieties. If your tree flowers and they do not have a suitable partner, (or perhaps there are not any honeybees nearby to transfer the pollen) then when the flowers finish blooming they'll drop from the tree instead of producing fruit. 2. Some Cherry varieties (like the sour pie cherries) do not need to cross-pollinate with another variety but will simply produce fruit all alone. Some of these small fruits will fall off but typically not enough to affect the overall harvest. 3. Last, if cherry trees are extremely dry (and conversely excessively wet) as the fruits begin to develop, the plant will drop the fruit preventing it from putting its energy into making fruit under those stressed conditions. Check to see if your tree is planted too deep or not deep enough. You'll also want to make sure it is not planted where it's too wet. After flowering, be sure that your plant has sufficient water to prevent stress on the tree which can prevent the fruit from dropping early. We hope this helps!
How do I know which kind of cherry tree I have? Is there such a thing as a toxic berry? My berries look more like the Rainier cherry, but some are red also, there are tart, not sweet

Please help. I have couple of 20 years old cherry trees that have very low yield. They have a lot of flowers but most the little tiny fruits keep falling off every year. Can I use 0-0-60 Potassium with 10-10-10 fertilizer together with Calcium (eggshells), Bone meal and Epsom salt twice a year? Will this fix the problem? Many thanks & God bless, Hai
Hi there Hai! So, there are many things that could affect the way your cherry trees produce. If a plant is producing too many flowers, it may cause some of the fruit to abort. Weather is a big factor too -- too wet, cool, or cloudy can all cause issues. We wouldn't suggest Epsom salt for anything, instead, try calling your local extension office, they'll be able to offer some suggestions for your immediate area. We hope this helps! -Whit

Hello..I like cherry in fact I have one but question is does all of the cherry need pollination..can I cut my cherry now on summer..pls reply..I need your opinion..thank u
Hi Josephine, here is some info from one of our horticulturalists. Please let us know if you have any other questions! "In general, sour pie cherries are self fruitful and the sweet cherries (like bing types) do need to have a pollinator to set fruit. BUT, the new breeding is bringing in some varieties that do not need to be cross pollinated. Stella is listed as self fruitful but they do set much better fruit if there is a partner for it to cross with. Pruning tips: Flowering and fruiting is on old fruiting spurs (old wood). Be careful not to prune off all of last years growth or you can eliminate flowering and fruiting. Prune after flowers and fruiting to reduce height, thin out the crown, or remove broken or diseased branches." www.naturehills.com/fruit-trees-and-plants/fruit-trees-and-plants-varieties/cherry-trees - or call us at 888-864-7663 for help!

I am sorry to say that sweet cherries in general don't set in Phoenix, but it is mostly because you do not get enough winter chill. I might add that cherry tree are sensitive to intense heat as well. But that is not the main reason that they don't do well there.
@@edwardlaivo8647 you are rigth!
