@ChronoPhoenix Yeah, she has good healing spells, but his attack/summoning spells are poor, so i made a mistake when i choose her class change. Usually my team is:Kevin, Hawk & Duran/Lise, and the boss battles will be over in no time with prober use of sword magic and status boost...
@GANTZ100pts Seiken Densetsu 1 is called Sword of Mana in the remake, but originally it was release as a final fantasy title, Secret of Mana is Seiken Densetsu 2, then came this one
First time I get to fight Dragon Emperor I didn't get the 3rd classes, mainly because I had no freaking clue of how, and he didn't stop throwing high level spells at me. I did win, but wasting every single recovery item and almost all of Carlie's MP... It was the best battle of the game, though.
dare I say I enjoyed this more than Secret of Mana?? Just beat this like 10 minutes ago. So EPIC!! Dare I say fucking BEST GAME EVER. Wow, I'm kinda sad it's over :"(
@kauyun I know this is way overdue, since your comment was made over a year ago. You have Hawk as Nightblade because he can use Deadly Weapon, which lowers the enemy's Maximum HP by 5% everytime, up to a maximum of 5 uses, after which, it no longer does anything. It works on Dragon Emperor and Arch Demon, but not on Dark Lich. As for the others, i barely ever use Angela, so i am unsure of her class (Kevin is my usual P1 choice), you take Duran as Lord because he has amazing tanking properties.
@kauyun You can target all with heal-light, it's the big advantage of Lord(Duran's best healing class, very decent), and magic circle's not too bad for a single-target attack. Nightblade is nice, deadly weapon for a solid opener and lots of little ninja tricks(Including multi-target 'spells').. with split-image slice being a great AoE tech and general solid attack power.... but then, most teams are pretty decent in SD3.
@Gigameth89 My team was different. I controlled Lise and had her go pure dark, then had Carlie go pure light, and I forget what I did for Kevin. (It's been years since I played it; she gets stat-up abilities if Lise goes pure light, right?)
The music seems like a Re-Hash of the Secret of Mana's "Lich" fight theme. Probably since SoM had "Lich" as a sub-boss before the actual Mana Beast encounter.
Wheee!!! I love this!! Seiken Densetsu 3 was the best one in the series. ^^ But what kinda spell was that "Rainbow Dust"? How did you evolve Angela? I gotta try!!! (Even i've played that game 7 times I gotta start again. xD)
@RAPTOR948 I usually make my Duran a Swordmaster, just because of the elemental imbue spells that he can possess, that or a Duelist, because of a high damage output. I've found Hawk to be best as a Master Ninja, because of a high damage output and a very powerful tech attack (I've leveled every single character to maximum form, beat all 3 final bosses and obtained all final level equipment for all characters). Kevin as a Death Hand class is the most solid choice for a damage role.
3. Three sets of: A) Pre-final dungeon (Jungle of Illusion, Glass Desert, Dark Cave) B) Storyline antagonist #1 (DeathJester, DarkKnight, Jagan) C) Main final dungeon (Mirage Palace, Dragon's Hole, Dark Castle) D) Storyline antagonist #2 (Heath, Koren, Bigieu) E) Main villain, final battle (Dark Lich, Dragon Emperor, ArchDemon)
@Gigameth89 well, at least someone answered my comment that alone makes me happy, especialy after a year^^ however, I gotta say: it's propably not the team I would take, 'BUT' your explanation is solid and i can't arcue with it.
That's actually a pretty good setup you got there. That's the same setup of characters I used and same classes except I killed Dragon Emp in around 2 minutes.
If Sieken Densetsu 3 were a 3-D game, then some should give the Dragon Emperor audible thunderous footsteps, if did any moving around, here all he moves is head. Do the Dark Lich and the Dragon Emperor do anything when the music changes?
to all who read this, I need some input...I've started a new game on Secret of Mana 2, and I'm using Hawk, Duran and Kevin; however I can't decide what classes I should make then...can anyone tell me some class combinations that would be good and would work well together?
@BurialRabbit you DO realize that this game AND FF were both produced by squaresoft before the merger with enix, ya? and that the merger took place in 2003, the same year as final fantast 11 was released (enix had nothing to do with the planning). and what good games have square enix come out with since 2003? final fantasy X-2? the only games that have been successful since the merger have been kingdom hearts (square 2002, before merger) and remakes of old squaresoft titles. see a pattern?
It always puzzled me as to why a Light Dark class would have higher Spirit and stronger Holy magic than a Light Light class. Also the fact that she has Rainbow which consists of the "Basic 4" elements, but the Grand Divina is better at Basic 4 magic. I love the Archmage's sprite colors and the Rainbow spell is beautiful. Now if only she had an extra point in the Strength stats!
@ghiblix2 That's nothing to do with Enix, rather both SquareSoft and Enix were masterful 'back in the day'. The merger revolved around SquareSoft management's changes to their selling approach.
actually, that the only thing about the Lord, he can multitarget the spells and hawk as a NightBlade is amazing to reduce boss stats (including his HP for a quicker victory)
does anyone know that when you use a characters magic and then use another characters magic, the casting time just halves down, kills some time if you do that, anyway i beat this game a long time ago
@cloudmaster220 it's funny you mention that combination, that's what I did for my first run-through with Hawk, Duran, and Kevin (I had Kevin as a god-hand) great combination, I loved it. but I already made my final class changes...I made Duran a Paladin, Kevin a Dervish, and Hawk a Wanderer. Thanks anyway though =D
Me and a friend are playing this right now, though it's the SuperFamicom version and we know so very little Japanese. It's kinda fun, cause we make up our own wacky story, based on the iconic Mana storyline. The game is solid, tho if it still had the weapon upgrade system it'd be that much better. But ya! 16 bit is classic and they really don't make games like this anymore. The fresh, crisp energy has been replaced by something else.
The freezing is annoying but I think it was done because on Secret of Mana, you could exploit and trivialize so many boss fights with magic spam (and stun lock the boss) and even heal people at 0 HP really fast before they died.
How do you switch beetwen characters so fast? When I usa an item - let's say round drop I can't do anything (attack or something, surely can't open item menu) until round drop is used. How?!
@ghiblix2 Enix wasn't any part of that. I coudl say the same thing abotu Square adding all those crazy graphics to Dragon Quest just to up sales. They both equally screwed each other in that deal. Now, they are trying to ruin Estopolis.
People ask for hands down the best team? Hawk: Nightblade Lise: Star Lancer Kevin: God Hand Stats down the boss Stats up the party Pressure point on Kevin's Wolf Form And if you'd like, buy some saber claws from the black market. Commence kicking the crap out of everything on-screen. I used this party to fight the Dark prince archdemon and all I remember was Bigieu doing all of 2 damage with her big special attacks since the stats discrepancy was that high. Dark prince went down in a flash
Originally, it was suppose to be released in the US, but the Super Mario RPG Project overruled it. As a result, this game never got a translation, until 2000 by a devoted gamer/hacker. I don't see why they couldnt have realeased it later instead of closing the door on it altogether. Such a great game, along with many other SNES classics, like LoZ:ALttP, SoM, Chrono Trigger, Super Mario RPG, Star Ocean, Secret of Evermore, and of course Super Mario World.
Only ever played this on a ROM and never actually beat it. Is it the same final boss no matter what people you choose? My main person was the thief guy. My second was the sword guy, and my third was the spear girl. (It's been almost ten years since I played so that's all I remember)
@kauyun Don't worry. It's not the team i'd take either. Duran is far too slow for my liking. My usual team is Kevin (Death Hand), Lise (Star Lancer) and Hawk (Master Ninja). Just because that team deals so much damage, I can kill anything before the Poto oils run dry, lol.
Uh, almost all SNES games are translated in english by now. Terranigma was released in Europe from the start, and Star Ocean has been translated. Just go around and search.
@InsaneDrunkenAngel well, a nice composition would be having a debuffer (- enemies) and a buffer (+ allies) and an huge dmg dealer. This sounds sexy. So I would choose the Ninja Master (great spells with great debuffs, very very good) and the Sword Master (choosing the opposite element is always a great buff. ) Give those advantages to Kevin in his most gruesome form, The Death Hand, can snuff away anyone.
I beat this game on an emulator. It's very, VERY hard! Even when I was at level 80, this boss was incredibly difficult! I managed to beat him though without the use of cheats or anything else. The ending(s) varies, depending on those you have in your party. This also gives the game a very high replay value. I should be ranked up there with Chrono Trigger (another Squaresoft classic)
With Duran as main character I'd go with something like this Duran : Paladin or lord if you really care for MT heal but then you miss the full screen tech Hawk : Ninja Master Lise : Star Lancer That's quite an awesome setup cause you get the ability to buff up your party while casting stats-down with Hawk jutsus in a short time. I don't like using dragon scale, it's annoyingly fastidious. Or you could drop Kevin in and have him choose something like God Hand, and Duran as Duelist.
actualy, you can blame secret of evermore for being the reason why Square didn't want to give the US this game- So, much thanks to SoMFreak for all of his hard work in hacking and translating the ROM.
Well, I like a combo of both. In my team I have Hawk as Master Ninja Angela as... something on the dark side (didn't play in a long time now so I forgot, but I think it was Magus) and Lise as a Valkyrie. So I can both stat up my team, and stat down my opponents. Realy usefull.^^ I'm aiming for the Archdemon by the way.
This actually isn't a bad party. Not at all. It feels a bit strange having Duran play the role of healer. But Hawk's Jutsus work well in synergy both with Angela AND with Duran. But in a party like this I'd make Angela into a Grand Divina and crank her STR all the way up to 17, so she can do some physical fighting when she's trying to conserve MP. Either that or take the Rune Master since it's excellent on this storyline...
If you love Seiken Densetsu 3, you won't stop the game by heading for the boss before you're goodly leveled up and tired of the game... Just listen to me! :P I love it, and was about lvl 82 when I attacked it. Got it down in 4 min I think it was... :) Have fun guys
When to goes to Strength and Power as well as Healing ability, you should choose Duran, Kevin and Hawk. Hawk as a Ninja is always strong as a supporter with his magic. Duran as a Healer and Kevin as Damage Dealer.
@PsychoBurgundy2 I had great hopes for the NDS. but it looks like SE totally forgot this game. Probably one of the best rpgs for SNES. [ 1)CT 2) SD3 3)SoM for me ]
depending on if u change classes or not.. which u will if u want to even try to beat the dragon emperor without codes... took me about 4 tries at lvl 49 so i did other stuff til lvl 86 then came back and kicked his scaly ass.. >:D
I guess this is a matter of taste. I like Seiken Densetsu 3 better since it has more replay value and cooler characters. I don't have to wait two seconds to make an attack and I won't have to use spells so much just to make them useful later. But still, it has a downside since the characters move a bit slower than the last game (especially since you can't run during a fight).
Trials of Mana brought me here. Nostalgia overload!
3:40 Sacrifice 3
I still come here for that boss soundtrack. Even better than the Tantalus theme of SoM 1.
The second part music is very good.
@SonofAbel Dark Lich also has Death Ecstasy which is just as powerful as Ancient. But he's still a piece of cake compared to the other two.
@Nintendo: When are you going to release this game on Switch's classic SNES games catalogue?
Yeah it's godly. Played through so many times, the next area or what to get done next is like a reflex. Great vid woot.
@GANTZ100pts Seiken Densetsu 1 is called Sword of Mana in the remake, but originally it was release as a final fantasy title, Secret of Mana is Seiken Densetsu 2, then came this one
Greatest action rpg ever, and one of the greatest games ever.

@bulbinking ...making up one of the most amazing games you will ever see or play ;)
Kevin was a freakin beast in this game. I mean that damage output during the werewolf form...
awesome fight

That's open to a lot of debate. Really depends on what you're looking for.
So what this video is saying is that I may as well actually BEAT SD3?
the rainbow dust seems cool but can the grand divina use it?
this is the best game ever
i love it
hey firebot do you know all the sercrets in megaman wrong vid to be asking but i just that of that question
Damn, D. Emp didn't even have the chance to cast flare. haha
Is this game 3 player using the attachment that allows 3 controller ports on the SNES?
Hands down, best Mana game.
No, the best video game ever
People ask for hands down the best team?

im liking the music :D
Hawk-Nightblade Kevin-Death Hand if you want power God Hand if you want pressure point :} Duran- Swordmaster for all saber *needed for final boss
The golden age of japanese RPGs.
have to play as duran or certain party members to have different boss battles and places to go, you shoudl look it up
Only ever played this on a ROM and never actually beat it. Is it the same final boss no matter what people you choose?
My main person was the thief guy. My second was the sword guy, and my third was the spear girl.
(It's been almost ten years since I played so that's all I remember)
@strouze I think not.
A giant wiggling sneak head, breakdancing sprites, and inventory screen after inventory screen...
There are so many it's really hard to say.
I personally chose Kevin, Carlie, and Lise but that's just me.
Does anyone know of similar games to this? A sort of 2d action rpg?
@kauyun Don't worry. It's not the team i'd take either. Duran is far too slow for my liking. My usual team is Kevin (Death Hand), Lise (Star Lancer) and Hawk (Master Ninja). Just because that team deals so much damage, I can kill anything before the Poto oils run dry, lol.
This music sounds like a faint remix of the Dark Lich Battle from SoM O_o
Power up on Angela? What for?

look up seiken densetsu 3 on google, and go to the romnation site one, they have the english translated rom there

song is obviously the oracle remixed
Why giving Angela atk up? Thats petty useless, isn't it?
angela sure knows how to vibrate her staff O_O
probably but it was kinda more of my own preference as to characters i guess in regards of story and design.
the dragon blew up so many times!
@r4shka Dark Lich
SoM2 ist best RPG ever, no other game gives me a feeling like that.
the best mana game ever created
With Duran as main character I'd go with something like this

i loved SoE! xD
i also loved illusion of gaia / time..
the even cooler thing was there were 2 other final bosses besides this one

I did the lich battle w/ kevin because he is the baddest wolf in town lol. I annihilated the lich, I was around level 60-65?
depending on if u change classes or not.. which u will if u want to even try to beat the dragon emperor without codes... took me about 4 tries at lvl 49 so i did other stuff til lvl 86 then came back and kicked his scaly ass.. >:D
