Arizona Supreme Court Delays Enforcement of 1864 Abortion Ban

- The Arizona Supreme Court granted Democratic Attorney General Kris Mayes’ request to delay the enforcement of an archaic 1864 near-total abortion ban in the state. The law would criminalize all abortions, with the only exception being if the pregnant person’s life is at risk.
‘I am grateful that the Arizona Supreme Court has stayed enforcement of the 1864 law and granted our motion to stay the mandate in this case for another 90 days,’ Mayes said in a statement.
Mayes’ office said the 1864 law had previously been slated to go into effect on June 27; however, her 90-day stay paired with an additional 45-day stay from a separate court case has now pushed that enforcement date back to September 26.
Arizona Governor Katie Hobbs has signed a repeal of the law. The issue is that the repeal can only go into effect 90 days after the Arizona legislative session ends, and it is currently still in session.
Per NBC News, last year’s legislative session ended on July 31, so depending on when this year’s session ends, the ban might only be enforceable for around a month, if at all.
Mayes has said that she and her office plan to ‘consider the best legal course of action,’ which could include trying to bring the case before the U.S. Supreme Court.

Trump appointed justices who deceived America during their confirmation hearings in order to overturn Roe. That’s who. And Trump even brags about how he made that possible. Joe Biden had nothing to do with it. He’s fighting back but he needs your help.

Republicans talk about how we’re “killing babies” while they ignore the mothers in danger. It’s a delicate situation and doctors need to be able to do their jobs and help save American lives. If a woman doesn’t have the choice, can doctors at least have the right to provide emergency abortions??
Doctors are the only ones qualified, therefore licensed to practice medicine.
I've been saying that for years but politicians and insurance companies are, for all practical intents and purposes, exempt in the US and regularly practice medicine without a licence

The new American Medical Association Hippocratic Oath: "Do no harm... unless I could be held liable."
You have a nation that rewards cruelty and apathy and punishes kindness and enpathy.
We have a nation that has allowed conservative christian religion to gain far too much political power and influence in government and it must be stopped
No, we have nearly half of the government that is trying their hardest to reward cruelty and apathy, and the other half of the government trying to f¡ght them back, while also actually keeping the government running, since they don't want to do that either.
It's exactly the Hippocratic oath that should keep doctors from performing abortions.
But liberals say do no harm unless it's a baby.
Empathy no longer exists in America, nor does honor.

What is it with shorts having captions in spots where they get covered by titles and headers? Like, what's the point of the captions if we can't see them? Hello??
Agreed!
One thing that isn't pointed out is this: in 1864, a woman generally didn't know she was pregnant until several months, and almost certainly past the first trimester. Back then, they were banning abortions of a potentially viable fetus. They were absolutely not banning or regulating a woman taking abortifacients in order to terminate a suspected early pregnancy.
Thank you, Kris Mayes, for fighting for the rights of mothers and our daughters!

Just use birth control if you can operate a phone you can take a pill every day. I know you people are not that dumb. Wait I take that back
You do realize that birth control is NOT 100% effective. I actually got pregnant and I had been taking birth control religiously for 4 years. You should educate yourself before speaking your nonsense. And by the way, since you are completely clueless they are coming after birth control next. It is people like you that are the problem. A woman should have full autonomy over her own body.
Vote Blue so we can have President Biden codify Roe.
94% effective with realistic use. That's still 6 pregnancies per 100.
Why are you assuming contraception isn't used? It has a horribly under reported failure rate
@@ladyofbast250 yep, realistic use puts many birth controls at only 94%. Thinking that's a foolproof action is dumb.

Chose life. Remember, your mother chose your life.
Key word is choose.. which is why I respect your comment. Life is definitely beautiful.
No, she didn't. She was not allowed a choice. After 5 births, 2 miscarriages within ten years, she turned to alcohol to cope with children and a no show deadbeat dad. . And just to let you know, I wish she had been able to abort me. I wouldn't have been subjected to abuse from my dad's second wife. By nine I was hoping I could die, by 12 I tried to unalive myself a couple of times. By 14 I ran away from home and lived on the streets. Learn more about reality. L. Women killer.
She is fear-mongering and lying because these situations are extremely rare.
This isn't keeping doctors up at night. Again extremely rare. And in most cases they know what to do. Her job is to come up with these rare exceptions and then make a plan.
But it seems like all she's interested in doing is trying to deny the will of the people and fear monger.
I’m in AZ. We are prochoice. This law going into affect was not the will of the people. We voted for a democratic governor and we voted for a liberal DA. Period.
You can just see her make up that fictional question, doctors are not asking that.
Maybe try, I dunno, talking with a doctor about it, instead of just assuming she's lying?
@@markusnixon3156I have talked to several doctors about this. They are not made to put the mother’s life in jeopardy. They are able to make life saving decisions.
There are PLENTY of videos and news articles of doctors talking about these very issues.
