Tip for FL: when you go to arrange, if you right click a pattern in the list on the left, you can split by channel. this makes separate patterns for each sound/instrument/sample you used so you can arrange easily and not have to do make unique and turn things off etc!

@@felixmokayabeatz They are still splitting patterns?😂 we don't need to split, we just hit record on the midi track and its already a pattern/midi clip on Ableton
Try Reaper hands down the best for people who produce, record and mix. Super flexible. Although this video does have me looking at Serato! Didn’t know it was that easy
I use Reason 4 (Because its simple and limitations make Me more creative) then if needed I will take the project's into Reason 12 or Abalten 11. Reasons dope lots of great features, full SSL mixer with master bus compressor over 50 devices synths, samplers, drum sequencers and effects Vocal pitch adjust in the piano roll no need for a plugin. Combinator that let's you mix any device together as they are or you can take elements like the LFO from one sythersizor to the oscillator off of another and essentially make your own device plugin. It gets better you can customize a face for it with your own graphics, you can put as many slidders, knobs, buttons on it. Supper dope. You will need a minimum of i7 though.
I did this last year and I came to the conclusion that Studio One is the best for my workflow. I need a DAW that I can do everything inside of it without needing to go to another. Studio One gives me everything and more. Also the time It takes me to get things done inside Studio One is very quick compared to Other DAWS.
I use Ableton because of its UI/UX. The midi editor is very keyboard friendly, you can do all sort of note editing and creating with just the computer keyboard and with minimal usage of the mouse. I find that this helps me execute faster and hence stay in flow. Same is true for the arrangement view’s midi and audio region editing.
Logic seems to be the smoothest but I have never used it. I hate the windows in FL and mixing. I love Ableton tho. If u get used to some things about it then playing with samples is amazing
I had FL Studio (Fruity Loops), then played with Reason 5, moved to Pro Tools 8LE....went and bought Reason 6, 7, 8, 9 and 10 and now I have Ableton 11. Pro Tools gives you a bigger sound but used to freeze too much and using midi was arghhh...😖 Reason is great for using midi and vocals...easy mixing and arranging but sounds thin...doesn't kick as hard and deep(naturally) as PT, Abtn and FL. Ableton has an excellent sound, deep and rich, not as deep as Pro Tools. Easy arrangement and mixing. (My favourite!) FL Studio is excellent with creating ideas 💡 as well....good with midi, lifetime free updates but when I used it back in the day....not so good with recording vocals.
I have an identical path as you (FL, Reason 2-11, PT 5.3-12) Then finally moved to Abelton a couple of years ago and haven't looked back. I think that once I really focused on how to use AL it felt like I was playing everytime I opened it up..then found out how to do everything all those other daws do, faster in AL.
@@relentlessliving5588 i am not sure about the vocal side. I haven't tried it in years but back then it really helped with your creative side and though I was now learning how to mix....a lot of my mixes then still sound relatively good.

Hi. I like every video showcasing different DAWS. A few years ago I chose Sony Acid music studio, Magix Music Maker2014, Reason, LMMS. These DAWS have everything that I needed to produce music. I wanted something very simple to use, and very dependable. I was going to learn how to produce music in any way possible. I tried sonic too, but it was too complicated. So I stuck with what worked for me.
i started out on fl but switched to ableton just cause i didn't like the interface of fl. there's of course no "best daw" but rather just whichever one you enjoy the workflow or look of the most cause they're all different in their own ways.
Would love to see you try Reason! I used it for a long time before making the switch to the Maschine DAW. Check out the backend wiring stuff, pretty cool for stuff like sidechaining.
@@seanjames9301 What makes you say that? Not arguing, just legitimately curious. I’ve had great experiences with Propellerhead’s software and plugins, so I’m unsure of what is going on behind the scenes.
@@nephteray303 I had great experiences with Propellerheads software as well. They are no long Props anymore tho, they are "reason studios", hence the logo change and ever since they have been awful as a company. The new owners are dishonest and out of touch. They straight up lied about VST3 support last september so everyone would upgrade(for $199!!), it's now June and they haven't even given us a date. They initially said it would be January of this year! They just string people along and don't deliver on their word. They've completely abandoned the DAW and don't listen to anything their long time customers say. They have become a plugin. They won't say it but their actions clearly prove this. It's sad but this is the reality. User for almost 20 years, thousands of dollars spent, thousands of hours spent learning the software but it is a sinking ship. Even the most die hard fans are finally admitting this.
I use FL because the genre of music I’m looking to produce (FNF if you’re curious) is best suited in that DAW. Also, I love the “disorganised” and “pattern” based workflow of it
Although.....there are no decent modulators. And many more features that you get in other DAWs are absent (even the stock instrument plugins suck bad). I switched to BW and it has been such an improvement for me. I actually used to think that S1 was the best without even fully checking out other DAWs and their capabilities. My advice is that if one wants to make music that is more electronic (like EDM, Trap, Drill, etc) i'd suggest going for FL, Ableton or Bitwig.
@@ЕтанДрешковка bigwig is great but it lacks some important features.. Like midi capture , pre audio record, tap tempo etc.. I own too many DAWs already; FL, Studio One, Reaper, Pro Tools, and Abelton. I'm done with PT after the subscription only b.s. Love/Hate with FL since some 3rd party plugins do it in, been working mostly in Studio One recently and it has some issues (lots of crashes on Windows). Maybe it's time to move over to the dark side Mac + Logic...
I started out with presonus and then went to FL and then a logic haha. You find presonus has as much as FL and the others? I was very inexperienced when I had it
@@enjohVEVO well I’d say that Studio One is very intuitive. Lots of drag and drop. Ableton works kind of like NI Maschine. I guess that’s where NI got it from. And although I start the majority of projects in Maschine, I do the details and mixing in SO. Generally FL and SO are very similar. And I almost stuck with it. But I just prefer the look and feel of Presonus. Since I own a Mac and Win computer Logic was not an option. I did play around with Garage Band though and I’d probably like Logic too.
Was at the advent of the digital audio workstation revolution in the 80's and the first DAW that we used on the Atari ST was Cubase (the father of all DAWS), so have been using it ever since. I've tried Ableton but the ambient sound of Ableton sounds thinner than Cubase somehow; maybe I'm just biased. Logic was okay when there was still a windows version but said goodbye to it when it opted exclusively for Mac - I'm a Windows baby. Had access to Pro Tools once but it was so complex in those earlier days and there wasn't a preponderance of video tutorials like there is today.
tip for ableton: theres a thing in the drums category called a drum rack where you put your drum samples into it, insert a midi clip and then put in your drums like a midi
I wouldn't recommend this for making Drill & Trap music, especially when producers want to be able to use different notes for Hi Hat rolls for example or different notes for snare hits. In a drum rack you can't have a drum sample really go to different pitches. Its better to separate everything into separate channels otherwise you get pretty limited making drill music.
Hey ocean, in fl people recomend for the 808 turn off all in the envelope section excepting the sus (sustain) and you turned off all excepting the hold, idk if something changues but everyone do that so you know
To start a track in the arrange view of Ableton, imho, misses the point. Start in session view, you can create a collage of sounds and then play them in to the arrange…..
Can you make a video on which DAW looks the best? I kept reaching out to FL saying that they need a UI change. I even reached out to NI to ask if they could make afully functional DAW, they're OPEN TO IT :D just haven't had time to run by it. I'm a music producer, and UX/UI Designer. Love your videos Ocean, you one of the best, humble.
i started with GarageBand then switched to logic, i love the interface of logic but then i discovered ableton and even though it was less intuitive to me i just felt way more at home in ableton so thats what i use now.
cant lie i was impressed with how you ran through all these different daws my favourites daws are FL and Logic FL as a MPC and Logic Pro as a more structured daw like a pro tools tips: on mac to windows CMD on mac replaces CTRL on windows meaning SELECT ALL (CMD and A on Mac) or (CTRL and A on Windows) when you was in the piano roll in FL you can highlight the selected keys to CHANGE OCTAVE BY CMD AND UP OR DOWN ARROWS OR TO CHANGE THE OCTAVE OF THE WHOLE PIANO ROLL WITH NOTHING HIGHLIGHTED CMD AND UP OR DOWN ARROW Lastly - you can make your beat on one pattern depending on wether all your instruments are with in the same loop length example all the sounds are 4 bar loops then go to the play when you select song and in the pattern column CTRL and click on the pattern and in the pop up menu click SPLIT BY CHANNEL and it will split all the instruments with midi in them into separate patterns. Everything else practically works the same as Logic Pro and the only thing really that makes FL stand out is that it is really a MPC this was taught to me by Shai of Feng Shui producers of STYLO G My Yute feat. Icedkid and SIckman Big up every time Ocean meet up in the near future king peace.
Always makes me giggle when our guy ocean teases with the Fl studio switch love to hear it 👌big love to Logic Pro for being the foundation of all the magic we've heard from ocean so far though 💯
Ocean, you can actually use fl studio as plugin in logic for programming drums , you could do a video on it and this can give you the sound you are looking for.
Tip for FL: when you go to arrange, if you right click a pattern in the list on the left, you can split by channel. this makes separate patterns for each sound/instrument/sample you used so you can arrange easily and not have to do make unique and turn things off etc!
Or if you got a Lotta patterns & ready to make stem track outs u can Merge Clips then Split if you're tryina to be even more organised

@@felixmokayabeatz They are still splitting patterns?😂 we don't need to split, we just hit record on the midi track and its already a pattern/midi clip on Ableton
@@sfisoskandal exactly bro. That's my man right there.
My man literally made us learn basics of top DAWs
Ableton for life but I also like fl studio for its stock plugins. Those are fire 🔥
Try Reaper hands down the best for people who produce, record and mix. Super flexible. Although this video does have me looking at Serato! Didn’t know it was that easy
I personally think that Logic has got the absolute best user interface and stock plugins than any other daw
Have you tried Presonus Studio One Pro's stock plugins?
@@mnmj that thing is a monster
Ableton stock plugins are criminally underrated
Ableton stock plugins are fire 🔥. Go try out and have fun
Just a quick Ableton tip
When you want to add a 808 or any other audio sample you want
Create a midi channel and then double click the sample you want
Trialing Reaper at the moment. Seems like a great option.
You should definitely try: Reason and Studio One.
how do they compare to fl?? i have studio one but have never really used it, but both reason and it seem very interesting to me
@@eltrae7368 they're cool. But the workflow is different. It seems that each DAW has something that it's really, really good at.
@@ChristFan868 thanks for the info
Yeah man. I use reason 11 now and serato sampler. Was using reason 5 for years tho
I bought FL a couple years ago, and now im seeing that i would personally prefer ableton, but the price.
If you maded music only with FL, don't change.. but if you're tired of FL then you should start a fresh one (by changing daw etc..)
There are no laws when you're sailing in international waters.... if you know what I mean
@@TorontoPopulistConservative my friend said he would show how to *buy* ableton
I did this last year and I came to the conclusion that Studio One is the best for my workflow. I need a DAW that I can do everything inside of it without needing to go to another. Studio One gives me everything and more. Also the time It takes me to get things done inside Studio One is very quick compared to Other DAWS.
TRY REAPER @Ocean
The Ugly Daw😅🤣😂
Make a vid on you struggling with Reaper next hahah, it's mad underrated 🏹🌑
I use Ableton because of its UI/UX. The midi editor is very keyboard friendly, you can do all sort of note editing and creating with just the computer keyboard and with minimal usage of the mouse. I find that this helps me execute faster and hence stay in flow. Same is true for the arrangement view’s midi and audio region editing.
I’m using always FL studio. It’s easy to work with FL studio, and I can make nice beats with it! Like Juice Wrld beats
Logic seems to be the smoothest but I have never used it. I hate the windows in FL and mixing. I love Ableton tho. If u get used to some things about it then playing with samples is amazing
fl gang over here but i mastered logic and ableton bc music is my life all daw's are good in they own way tho
I had FL Studio (Fruity Loops), then played with Reason 5, moved to Pro Tools 8LE....went and bought Reason 6, 7, 8, 9 and 10 and now I have Ableton 11.
Pro Tools gives you a bigger sound but used to freeze too much and using midi was arghhh...😖
Reason is great for using midi and vocals...easy mixing and arranging but sounds thin...doesn't kick as hard and deep(naturally) as PT, Abtn and FL.
Ableton has an excellent sound, deep and rich, not as deep as Pro Tools. Easy arrangement and mixing. (My favourite!)
FL Studio is excellent with creating ideas 💡 as well....good with midi, lifetime free updates but when I used it back in the day....not so good with recording vocals.
Is fl better at recording vocals now?
@@SmokeM2D6 i got the Push2 and the full suite and I dont think you need much more....countlesssss samples.
@@relentlessliving5588 i am not sure about the vocal side. I haven't tried it in years but back then it really helped with your creative side and though I was now learning how to mix....a lot of my mixes then still sound relatively good.
Ocean Never fails to come out with some fire 🔥🥶
FL Studio got some bright colores so you can see everything and the ideas in FL Studio are crazy (channel rack , mixer ) that's my opinion
I use all of them don’t get used to one. I even grab sounds from one software and move the stems round the other software to keep working and mix sometimes get creative have fun. They all are great for certain things. I’ll end up recording my vocals in Logic Pro x or cubase or pro tools doesn’t matter I know how to work them all. Whatever I’m feeling I jump on :)
Hello to my fellow ableton producers who were screaming when ocean was making a beat with it. Great video as always man.
Why is he doing ableton like that🥺😪
Yeah bro it just makes you be sad
i just screamed „drum rack“ like a 100 times into my phone watching this
YE
hahahahahahahahahhaha omg bro he put it everything in audio but i love him kkkkkkkkk
I use Fl, and the Mighty REAPER. plus Serato when I need a quick simple beat.
Try reaper that should be fun 🤣😂😂
Damn using a third party plugin in Ableton to change the pitch kinda hurts to see ngl looool
Right lol? Ableton has EVERYTHING right there.
Ableton is my main simply because I got attached right away
i started out on fl but switched to ableton just cause i didn't like the interface of fl. there's of course no "best daw" but rather just whichever one you enjoy the workflow or look of the most cause they're all different in their own ways.
Fl is the ugliest daw lol
Would love to see you try Reason! I used it for a long time before making the switch to the Maschine DAW. Check out the backend wiring stuff, pretty cool for stuff like sidechaining.
Reasons the best in My opinion and it's not just dope for beats its dope for pretty much any music production.
@@HOLLASOUNDS love hate relationship with the company
Worst company ever
People may say "Ableton looks bland" but honestly it's just another DAW that has a lot of possibilities. Personally my favorite daw.
Ableton looks modern and minimalistic. Best daw ever
When I need to swing my drums I find it hard. Also when I need to pitch shift (vocal pitch correction) it's also kind of hard until I install melodyne
@Grimbo they literally have themes you can install 😂
Not to mention you can easily change its appearance. There's like 15 different skins, all totally customizable.
I use FL because the genre of music I’m looking to produce (FNF if you’re curious) is best suited in that DAW. Also, I love the “disorganised” and “pattern” based workflow of it
When you said "the ugly DAW" I literally could've sampled the audio of my breaking heart
He’s not wrong though.
Best content! Keep doing your thing!
The best daw is obviously Reaper.
Studio One.. Undoubtedly the best..I mean it has all the features from every DAW.. and it is the most user friendly
Facts!
From what I have seen, that seems to be true.
@@ЕтанДрешковка bigwig is great but it lacks some important features.. Like midi capture , pre audio record, tap tempo etc.. S1 has everything but one thing annoying in S1 is that they have very small icons and bloated resizesable features.. It's hard some times when you work with a fast mouse..there is no perfect DAW as it seems till now.
FL Studio is a certified banger 🐱
Reaper Gang!!!!
I switched from Logic to Ableton and it was the best decision! The workflow is insane. Once you know the shortcuts, producing gets fast and easy.
I feel like saying "Once you know the shortcuts..." goes for every god damn DAW.
Ableton is the definition of a real DAW. The sound quality bro, workflow ,perfect and easy shortcuts, CPU usage.
I definitely recommend Ableton.
Facts, I’ve tried all, it’s like the workflow of fl with the organised mixing of Logic Pro
So many good features and an interesting workflow but the GUI is just the worst of all Daws it's just so ugly they need to update it
Started in FL in late 2011
Moved to Reason a couple months later (early) 2012
Stayed in Reason until 2015 then I got Maschine. I use it to current day.
I’ll occasionally make beats in FL & Reason from time to time.
I’ve tried Logic but I don’t like the workflow
And I couldn’t wrap my head around Ableton (but I’m willing to try it again).
I will never stop using Reason however I haven't upgraded since 4 and use other DAWs to use newer features.
@@HOLLASOUNDS 4? Damn I thought I was behind with 9.5 haha. I love Reason though and still use it from time to time, it's just that I get my ideas out faster with Maschine.
"The ugly daw" 😂😂😂😂🤣🤣
try Reaper and Studio One
I tried Ableton and FL, but finally ended up with Presonus Studio one.
My man didn’t even put reaper on the list. 😢
Nice but where is Reaper??🤨
Was at the advent of the digital audio workstation revolution in the 80's and the first DAW that we used on the Atari ST was Cubase (the father of all DAWS), so have been using it ever since. I've tried Ableton but the ambient sound of Ableton sounds thinner than Cubase somehow; maybe I'm just biased. Logic was okay when there was still a windows version but said goodbye to it when it opted exclusively for Mac - I'm a Windows baby. Had access to Pro Tools once but it was so complex in those earlier days and there wasn't a preponderance of video tutorials like there is today.
shoutout to all producers who use Ableton i could never lmaoo
Init it’s so confusing compared to the rest of the
tip for ableton: theres a thing in the drums category called a drum rack where you put your drum samples into it, insert a midi clip and then put in your drums like a midi
@George-nx8zu you can do all of that in the editor. Plenty of people are using Ableton for those genres.
FL🔥🔥🔥 is always fire..
Awesome video Ocean, was great to work with you on your plugin!
Last beat go hard hard 💯🔥🫡
Can you make a video on which DAW looks the best? I kept reaching out to FL saying that they need a UI change. I even reached out to NI to ask if they could make afully functional DAW, they're OPEN TO IT :D just haven't had time to run by it. I'm a music producer, and UX/UI Designer. Love your videos Ocean, you one of the best, humble.
Lmao you didn’t even use a drum rack in Ableton 😅
the editing🔥
i started with GarageBand then switched to logic, i love the interface of logic but then i discovered ableton and even though it was less intuitive to me i just felt way more at home in ableton so thats what i use now.
cant lie i was impressed with how you ran through all these different daws
my favourites daws are FL and Logic FL as a MPC and Logic Pro as a more structured daw like a pro tools
tips: on mac to windows CMD on mac replaces CTRL on windows meaning SELECT ALL (CMD and A on Mac) or (CTRL and A on Windows)
when you was in the piano roll in FL you can highlight the selected keys to CHANGE OCTAVE BY CMD AND UP OR DOWN ARROWS
OR TO CHANGE THE OCTAVE OF THE WHOLE PIANO ROLL WITH NOTHING HIGHLIGHTED CMD AND UP OR DOWN ARROW
Lastly - you can make your beat on one pattern depending on wether all your instruments are with in the same loop length example all the sounds are 4 bar loops then go to the play when you select song and in the pattern column CTRL and click on the pattern and in the pop up menu click SPLIT BY CHANNEL and it will split all the instruments with midi in them into separate patterns. Everything else practically works the same as Logic Pro and the only thing really that makes FL stand out is that it is really a MPC this was taught to me by Shai of Feng Shui producers of STYLO G My Yute feat. Icedkid and SIckman
Big up every time Ocean meet up in the near future king peace.
man, that first beat touched my soul
Nice vid, very creative idea!
Bro . Im in love with that background haunted music ..💥💥🔥🔥🔥
Love the Degs flip on the first beat!

FL is not just a daw its a way of life. 😤
Always makes me giggle when our guy ocean teases with the Fl studio switch love to hear it 👌big love to Logic Pro for being the foundation of all the magic we've heard from ocean so far though 💯
Just wanted to point out - off topic - your colour grading is on POINT ma dude. Keep it up
In FLS just drag your sample or plugin to the playlist track and it automatically connects pattern, playlist track and audio channel.
Banger video as always! Come to the dark side! Make the switch to fl. I switched from logic a few years back and don’t regret it!

Ocean, you can actually use fl studio as plugin in logic for programming drums , you could do a video on it and this can give you the sound you are looking for.
Came early, great video :)
Watching Ocean program hi hats by hand in Ableton without using simpler or drum rack might be the most painful thing I've watched today
