    I hate to point this out but what you state in regards to #9 regarding when the discard step takes place well that contradicts the rule book since the rules state and I quote "If you ever find that you have 6 or more cards, you MUST IMMEDIATELY choose and discard the excess to the discard pile"

    One thing I haven't seen mentioned anywhere is how co-op games can also be played solitaire. As it's player vs game, it doesn't really matter if it's multiple players or just one vying against the game. Just play as if you were four people, taking four distinct turns, and it works fine.
    I would think that the game manufacturers would want to advertise that their co-op games could be played with one player, as doing such would open a larger market for persons like myself who don't often have others available or interested in gaming.

    Most of these are pretty easily explained on the cards or in the rules, but MAN that first rule about removing the location cards after they sink, definitely missed that one, the video was worth it for that alone.
    I was wondering why the game was so incredibly easy, and it felt odd to keep drawing cards for empty tiles. I kind of had a feeling.
    Thanks!

      TyDeL I am certain in the rules it states that cards of the locations which have gone into the abyss remain in the discard pile...maybe some reprints have different wordings?

    Also, when claiming a treasure the used treasure cards go in a normal discard pile not the box.
    The diver doesn't have to swim in a straight line either.

    Hand Limit .You may only have 5 cards in your hand, including Treasure and Special Action cards. If you ever find that you have 6 or more cards (for example because you drew more cards or received cards from another player) you must immediately choose and discard the excess to the Treasure discard pile. If you choose to discard a Special Action card, you may use its action before discarding.

    Where do you get the ruling on being able to move the diver/explorer according to their abilities? That's true in Forbidden Desert, but in Island it *explicitly* says "adjacent cards". I think you're wrong, unless you're the board game designer?

    • @jorand73
      @jorand73 8 лет назад +1

      I believe you are right Sarah. If you play by the rules the Navigator should not able move other players according to their abilities. I like this video but somehow I feel that he made up rule #6.

    • @semitangent
      @semitangent 7 лет назад +4

      Here's Matt Leacock (the game designer) clarifying on this issue: boardgamegeek.com/article/5017773#5017773. The Navigator moves characters according to their abilities, as stated here in the video.

  • @Krowphay
    @Krowphay 11 лет назад +4

    Thanks for the heads up for these rules! I believe, however, that there is a flaw in your demonstration of rule #4. Upon drawing the Golden Gate card, you place it off camera instead of into the Flood discard pile. The rulebook included with the game states to "Draw cards 1 at a time and place them face up onto the Flood discard pile", meaning it should have been shuffled back into the deck to possibly be drawn again during the same Flood phase. This could be really bad near the end of the game when most of the tiles are gone, because, for example, you could end up drawing Fools' Landing twice and losing.

    • @PasCorrect
      @PasCorrect 9 лет назад

      JackRabbit894 Good point. That would be a boring way to lose. I think I'll make an exception in that situation, and interpret the rule as follows: "draw (and resolve) cards 1 at a time, THEN place all of them in the discard pile."

    • @sarahwalters9476
      @sarahwalters9476 8 лет назад +1

      You have to draw one at a time ... no one says you can't sandbag between draws, though. That's what they're for at endgame.

    Based on Matt Leacock's explanation over on a boardgamegeek thread, the diver can move through any number of adjacent tiles, even if they are not in line (ie he can zigzag) for one turn.
    Someone also asked about playing sandbags card after the waters rise is turned over. My understanding of the rules is that yes, you can do that.
    Another rule worth noting (at least from my understanding) is that you can still win the game if fools landing is cut off, but it requires extra helicopter lift cards, which can be hard to obtain near the end of the game.

  • @stichomythia3435
    @stichomythia3435 11 лет назад

    So you can't play a sandbags card to save a tile that's just turned over, but can you play it in the time between turns? For example, if a Waters Rise card turns over, and I know that one of the cards in the discard pile I'm shuffling and putting back on top of the flood pile is Fools' Landing, can I sandbag Fools' Landing at that point?

  • @DarrenCarroll72
    @DarrenCarroll72 5 лет назад

    Could somebody explain the exact sequence of events when you draw 2 Waters Rise cards in a row? I noticed that this player didn't play any flood cards at the end of his first Waters Rise card draw?

    • @sroeland1
      @sroeland1 4 года назад +1

      When 2 Waters Rise cards are drawn in a row, shuffle the discard pile only once, but move the Water Level marker up 2 tick marks. This is taken straight from the rule book, page 6.
      So you'd draw the 2 Waters Rise cards, shuffle the flood discard pile just the one time, then draw the appropriate number of flood cards that match the new water level after it has been moved up two tick marks.

    Can you trade with someone who already has the max number of cards? Are you allowed to discard cards you think you don’t need, or do you have to exceed 5 cards then make the choice?

    • @misterasterisco5217
      @misterasterisco5217 2 года назад

      can you trade if the receiver will then exceed: yes, it's in the manual that you may end up with 6 cause someone donated to you, but you must then get rid of one immediately. And about the 2nd question, I think you only discard when you have 6 or more. if less than 5 you gotta keep them.
