World Restructuring is out! But without the alliances part explained in the video. An alliance was an additional layer on top of guilds. This got cut during development in favor of simply giving everyone an additional guild slot for free.
I just came back to the game after a long time away, and no longer am part of any guild, and haven't joined a new one yet. I got into WvW and really enjoy it, and I think I'm going to like this system very much.
Thank you for explaining it so simply! I am a PvE player and when I attempted WvW, I got scared off. Now that I understand alliances better, I look forward to giving WvW a try again with my guildmates!
Considering the magnitude of the change, I wish they'd just release it already. Even unpolished, it can't be worse than the current mess. I get wanting to make a good first impression, but I think that ship has sailed.
First things first I would like to leave this comment that I shared today w some guildies about the subject before I saw this video, then I'll add to it on the comment below it I was worried thinking about how the alliances might hurt the new player experience, I've met many folks in wvw that I played with, now to be in the same "server" u already need those connections , for eg now in my server I can play w 3 different guilds I'm at that have nothing to do w one another except being on the same server, when alliances hits I will have to pick a guild if they don't join together. The system we have now has a very good system of socialization Imo, when playing alone I always try to party up w randos to have a better chance of surviving, another thing I was wondering is that, even tho the system doesn't hold your hand in any way, there's a balance in the borderlands like, atm I'm janthir+FC but there's players on every borderland, I was thinking if an alliance of say, EBG focused guilds, wouldn't shoot itself in the foot by not having population in other maps Also what we have now of world linking keeps things fresh, you can be partnered w a guild that is helping you now but could be fighting them the next month while being allied to a server that was fighting u before I hope alliances won't stale stuff out, I do believe recruiting will be different because I see inactives being kicked out of their own server/alliances and having to look to other ones, this even might promote elitist alliances that kick people that won't play the way they want About being kicked out of alliances, I do think it's nice that like, right now if a person is being toxic in your server there's very little you can do, and I like that in alliances it might be possible to not have these people playing in the same environment if they're being toxic But isn't it crazy that you can be kicked out of your own server and have to look for another one for say, inactivity? Because an alliance criteria for having its members is its own call. Im not bashing on the system because more player agency is good and I do believe many good things will come with it, but I was also thinking how it may hurt the experience of some, there are Ppl that like to play by themselves roaming without much talking, there. may be some folks that will have a hard time looking for an alliance and all :/ I hope they pull it off well and good
Roamers can either choose to join a guild to guarantee you have friends on the team you get put on or not join a guild and be placed on a "random" team. My recommendation is that roamers find like-minded players and start making a guild for the future. No need to do guild raids, but always nice to have friends around.
Just caught this video and am relatively new to GW2...I am an avid PVE player and love the storylines but never even considered WvW ..after this video I am thinking that I want to try out this part of the game. Not understanding the guild choosing method ..any tips on where I can go to help me choose a guild that could be helpful for a newbiw WvW player ?
As shown in the video: Open the WvW window and go to the bottom tab "World Restructuring - BETA". Put a checkmark on your guild. They do have some issues with it atm as per their update on the forums. Should be fixed later today though: en-forum.guildwars2.com/topic/101993-world-restructuring-beta-1-update/?tab=comments#comment-1469508
I tried to get my friend - who is on another server - to be on a team with me by having both of us select the same guild as our WvW guild. Sadly it didn't work, she's on the enemy side. Isn't that NOT supposed to happen?
It doesn't go into effect until friday when the first World Restructuring beta will happen. It will also only last for a week this first time. You can read more here: www.guildwars2.com/en/news/studio-update-world-restructuring-and-the-future-of-world-vs-world/
So, matchmaking without addressing the actual problems involved with participating in WvW. So do we need another 3.5 years to finally remove the aoe cap?
Dunno about that low cap. 500 players... 24/7.... Pretty sure it will still cause population inbalances due to timezone activity. Also i still think it will cause a strong zerg of WvW focused players (WvW guild stacking in an alliance) against pugs, small guilds, pve guilds etc. With other words i wouldn't wonder if it will be a spawncamping fiesta for some... We all know how it looks when a guildraid steamrolls 10 unorganised pugs. I still have my doubts but we will see. After pretty much 9 years of broken promises and bad changes am not looking too excited about alliances. I wouldnt wonder if they f up again somehow.
Timezones is surely something I want to see them take into account in the future. I think it could help bring an extra level of balance. But I do wonder if that will even be necessary. The next big step after World Restructuring is rewards and incentives to win. That would automatically make people make alliances that cover more timezones for a bigger chance of winning would it not?
Alliances won't magically make people able to stay online 24/7. They will still live their lives and with a limitation of 500 players it will be even more visible. You will still have outnumbering and doubleteaming. The only thing that it will make is cutting Anet from the server transfer income. Which probably isn't a that small margin. Anyways. I've told it 3+ years by now that it can't change anything as how the idea is executed. You still just throw 500 players from different timezones and with different daycycles into a bucket and will see one side having more people than the other...
Once thing I don´t see anyone addressing is the language barrier this will create across EU servers. Many of EU servers where country specific, where coms in chat and voice were had in the language of the region. By mixing all EU servers up, you are forcing a large population of players to use English as the vehicular language, which is not ideal for many players.
ArenaNet did address this in their QA on MightyTeapots stream. Back in the day they only used to link germans servers with other german servers etc. At one point it was changed and they used that as a test to see how the adaptation from the community was. Overall they concluded it didn't make a huge difference and that communities cross-language was able to get along fine and still communicate. I mean, I've been linked with national servers many times and I try to learn their basic calls on comms for "left", "right", "bomb" etc., such that I can follow their commanders too. Sure some will be pressured into speaking more english and that is unfortunate, but they still have the ability to create their language specific alliances and guilds if they so desire. And when it comes to adapting to other languages, then it goes both ways. Anyone saying that germans, french and spanish players *have* to speak english now without themselves trying to learn simple words in those languages too are honestly not people that should be listened too.
This is now available in wvw now? Bicose mi server alwais is low in numbers, and wen the otrer server has more people forget abaut have fun in this gamemode, there is gona be enemis every were, olmost imposible for low sergs to enter the castle and imposible for take tawer, fortres or camps
I don't want to say I'm elitist, but the thing is there aren't a lot of hardcore WvW players. So, let's say they make a small guild of ~100 of the best players. They could potentially offset the time bracket. Although I'm not sure if they would offset the entire server link. When I ran with Sky and Cellofrag, it wasn't unusual of us to do 25v50+. Cakewalk also run similar numbers.
For the moment i know a player in my guild that have a issue. He is mostly a wvw solo player in level 10.000. He likes to transfer for servers and matchups freely, but now he is feeling that he is going to be forced to participate with one guild or an alliance for 8 weeks at the moment.
Sounds like a bandwagoner (sorry if he's not, but that's definitely what it sounds like) and it is *very* good that it will no longer be a possibility.
It does suck that first beta came and went so quickly. Those things can happen when new systems are put under load sadly. I do really appreciate their quick decision to simply roll back to the current system and look into what went wrong.
Its crap and I will be leaving gw2 as this was only thing that kept me. I spend a lot of real money on this game in the past to. Worst idea for MMO so change that something as been fundamental to a game from the start

Really nice overview!
OMG LOVE IT!
really like the asura over the web pages etc in the intro and all. cool little effect there :D
Thank you :D
I recently released a video on how I do it if you're interested. You can find it on my channel :)

Hi my favourite asura!!! WvW is better because of you!!! Hugs!!!

Nice!
I play at a weird time when the maps are usually empty. How will the restructuring effect me, as a solo guy?
I'm here for the masterly green screen use
BREAKING NEWS: I actually use a bluescreen since the green backdrop causes some issues with some visuals on my character.
The only way to balance wvw is to join na with eu so we dont get the pvdoor times

I think for any change that can be made, there will always be some downsides. Definitely agree that they are outweighed here by the positives.
ALLIANCE HYPE \O/

Quick question what will this do to roaming specifically?

Better join a guild then 😬
