RUclips is a massive money maker for Alphabet after Google bought it back in 2006, but it's arguably big enough to survive on its own. So could we see a split in the future? Why would RUclips want to go it alone? And what's still holding them back?

That just means RUclips would have to pay for the server space and bandwidth. I'm pretty sure more than a few independent businesses have their data hosted by Google.

I've been working in digital advertising for 14 years for a large UK agency. I can say with extreme confidence that RUclips benefits MASSIVELY through the Google relationship. Even though you might think RUclips could be forgotten about, there has been a huge focus from Google on developing and better-integrating RUclips within their advertising ecosystem. Especially with some more modern campaign formats such as Performance Max and Demand Gen campaigns. The whole purpose of these is to make it easier for all advertisers to tap into a wider pool of Google inventory, including RUclips. In addition, the audience data and performance tracking from Google provide immeasurable benefits to RUclips advertisers. I cannot imagine a world in which RUclips would want to part ways with Google.

I think it's more meaning political focus. Corporate operators are the focus of most political scrutiny, and subsidiaries tend to get looked over

You guys used the same image for the google ecosystem tree for the vast majority of the video. Almost made this one into a radio worthy talk. Please find different things to display to make it worth watching, even if listening is still great as always.
So 31 Billion $ from about 2.7 Billion users, is basically, 12$ a year from its audience, or about 1$ per month.

RUclips might have some problems but it's still in my opinion the best social media platform right now
Because despite it getting worse and less free all the time people are still here. I liken it to drinking from a muddy lake, because thousands are, when there's a smaller puddle next to it with just ten people but clean water.
The normies would need to move for me to move fully. I like Odysee. NEARLY there in terms of functions. Bitchute was OK the short time I used it but got fed too much political stuff. Rumble haven't tried but also haven't found a dark theme which is essential for me.
If RUclips was taken off Google's hands and made free (and fun) again that'd be the best for everyone. Then re-introduce private messages and make it possible to de-activate the algorithm and it's solid.

Tbf, the last time RUclips posted their numbers, they weren't making a profit and it's probably still the same or just about breaking even.
A part of this is that Google sees every issue as an engineering problem to be resolved in a way that can infinitely scale and be automated away. The fact it causes tons of issues for the users and content creators is irrelevant, as long as the end result benefits the company overall.

Never is Alphabet selling YT. This site is the worlds highest quality data set for AI training.
Even just for serving infrastructure, it will take years to build that on your own. Alternative is use cloud, but that will immediately bankrupt the company.

I really hope that they won't be separated from Alphabet, an independent RUclips will quickly devolve into Vimeo. Imagine RUclipsrs having to buy a subscription to RUclips to upload as "an investment" and paying RUclips to host your content, all while storage technology is quickly innovating making storage cheaper. We'd also see systematic deletion of old videos unless the channel pays for it.
There is so much that could go wrong with RUclips. I'd rather see a competitor rise.

Making RUclips go public on its own is only going to lead to more ensh*ttification. Think three minute ad breaks. And Google needs RUclips a lot, its web search function has been shaky these days.
Like any company RUclips could just pay for ad services from Google. No reason for them to rebuild it. Yes, the mechanics might change a little, but that isn't that much of a problem. Same way they could pay for moderation services. But as a separate company they would say least have the option to add other ad platforms or other moderation companies to the mix. Might be a good thing.

infrastructure costs will be a big problem if the split from google. I assume beening part of alphabet gets them a huge discount on cloud resource consumption and youtube is expensive.

Whether you like it or not, it works as essentially channel advertising and to take market share away from its competitors, mainly Tiktok.
What I think so far RUclips can be upgraded into a standalone platform within Alphabet core businesses that equals the Google and no more under Google. I think RUclips will even get bigger if they being independent from being under Google.

of all the tech services that i want broken up, youtube is definitely not one of them: google has (behind closed doors, and some events) that no matter how much money it loses, the user base simply can’t be lost. unless the government steps in they aren’t selling YT for anything

I am amazed at how the video dives into the REVENUE generated by RUclips, but never the OPERATING COST. RUclips requires an enormous of money to operate. If we take into account the operating cost, I'm pretty sure that RUclips isn't the cash cow this video is making it out to be.

How many companies could afford the upkeep of this monster streaming entity? Storage and power costs must be overwhelming. They can only add so much more advertising to support this obese monster. I expect RUclips to simply collapse in the near future. I can almost understand if Google wants to dump RUclips. I enjoy watching the videos quite a bit but I doubt I'll ever pay for it, no matter how many ads they throw at me. I have a high tolerance to ads and will just tune out. I think Google really needs the ad revenue and I don't blame them.

RUclips doesnt have to rebuild an adservice or moderation service or anything they are currently getting from Alphabet if they split. They can just pay Alpabet to keep providing the services, wich would change nothing exept that they are seperate companies, wich would make this video pointless 😅
