I heard that there is a market for the beach black sand from Washington . : Tatara is a traditional furnace used for smelting iron and steel. In this clay vessel, a charcoal fire is started and, over the next few days, several layers of charcoal and iron sand are added. When the furnace cools down, the clay tube is broken and what remains at the bottom is steel bloom known as kera. If kera is large enough and if the craftsmen maintained the correct temperature, it contains a small amount of bright silvery alloy called tamahagane (which translates into “round and precious steel like a gem.

That would tickle me to death ;) They have reserved the entire beach for you!! Find yourself an orange road cone and a high volumn bilge hand pump. Turn the road cone upside down (make a stand for it) and fit an inch or inch and a quarter pvc pipe in the bottom about 2 inches inside and hook your bilge pump to the bottom. When you pump you will create a pulse up into the cone, starting from that 2 inches of pvc, holding the heavys and tossing out the lighter black sand over the top. Then you need a seat and 4 or 5 buckets of black sand and pump with your left and feed with your right. Every 4 buckets, stop and rest and take that concentrated black sand home from the cone. 4 buckets of that concentrate and you will be back in the beach mining business!!!! I would suggest your take will increase as you can concentrate faster than with a battery pump!! Pulse jets work very well!!! 2 people can really do well as one can pump and the other feed the cone. Screw the politicians!!!!!

So with the extension of the jetty a lot of blonde sand has built up on the beach. So you have to dig down pretty deep and even further to get to the good lawyers. So basically we have to wait for the jetty to be completed and then we need a lot of big storms over multiple years to get the conditions that we had when we were getting up to a quarter gram per 5 gallon bucket. But is it worth going down there right now to get some sand to take home and play with yes it is worth it. It’s just not profitable like it used to be. But I will be getting my HPA permit so I can run on the beach again.

I've thought about this a lot. When looking up charts on pcs of gold per oz/gr they vary a lot. For 100- mesh I've seen estimates anywhere from 98,232 pcs/oz (gpaa) up to 800,000 pcs/oz. (Gold Panners Guide To Washington State). So first one would need an idea of the size/weight of an average pc of gold from the beach area. Then it would be easier to estimate results of different methods of recovery. After watching many videos on different methods of recovery a couple stick with me as ways that might be somewhat practical for regulated beach sands. If you get a chance watch the videos on Indus river gold recovery. A good one is by Royal Tiger Cottage BORN TO COLLECT THE RAW GOLD. I actually tried making one of those wooden panning devices but the wood was too heavy to be practical. But this idea coupled with a plastic beekeepers honeycomb instead of the wooden pan device might be effective. See- Blade Attila-How to Catch micron gold easily with a plastic beekeeper's honeycomb?! I see people using large shovels to fill their 5 gallon buckets (at the beach in the vids), one would definitely need to scale that down and spend more time processing out/panning the black sands.

I've been wondering, because I found a beach spot outside of Tillamook where I live with concentrated black sands. I did a 1.5 cup sample pan and it had 12 flour pieces. I'm wondering if there is a way to run a gold cube or sluice system into tubs and feed it water manually with buckets. Like create a shoot on top or something. Or with a gavity fed hose and then remove water from tailings tub before it hits the beach. It's a spot you can drive to, so you could load a water tank in the back of a truck

    • @pnwprospecting

  • @Chuxgold

Just concentrate the sand before putting it in the bucket. Could use a large gold pan or a hand rocker for that and put two or three buckets in one. Been thinking about working the beach this year with a Micro washplant I've designed around the rockerbox design of seperation through specific gravity.
Also I need to ask if you have seen the ribbons of gold on the beach. As if you look at the sand with the sun infrount you and low 9n the hurision. You can see them only then. But only on a reseeding tide right where the waves can't reach no more. And it only last a little while until the sand dries a bit and shifts the surface as it settles so then it can't be seen no more. But for a moment it looks like a solid layer if viewed from the right angle with the light casting on it. And I believe it is caused by a static charge of the water running out inbetween the iron. With the last waves depositing the gold in the odd ripples the static produces.

Excellent video. Would the new regulations prohibit speed panning on the beach with a gold pan into a panning tub and then just taking the rough panning concentrates home to work further with a Gold Cube or cleanup highbanker? By speed panning I mean using a 15 inch Garrett pan and saving the cons when you get down to say one quarter of the Garrett pan volume. Or am I missing something obvious about the new regulations? Thank you for sharing.

dirt. Nice video. Was the 0.11 g from all 5 buckets? If so the gold content is not as good this year. If from one bucket, that would be decent. 0.25 gm per bucket is about as good as I e seen in 5 years.
Finally have you explored non motorized techniques? The hand cranked wheel might work. Some quick panning methods might concentrate the gold 10- 20 times without taking too much time. Then the 2 concentrated buckets you take home would have the gold of 20.

So they did remove the section in the new pamphlet. In the old pamphlet it said you were allowed up to 10 gallons of concentrated material.
Even though they removed that from the pamphlet it does not mean that removing sound from the beach is prohibited but the Rangers are still going by the 10 gallon rule so I would not be removing more material than two buckets per person. If the sound was as good as it used to be I would take my whole family down there so I could come back with a bunch of sand. Yes but I’m happy to say that I just got off the phone with the people they give out the permits for mining the beach and they’re being extremely helpful in the process! I’m working on documenting how to do it because it doesn’t cost anyone anything other than the time filling out the form

@@pnwprospecting could you make like a hand cranked wheel system that will pump the water through.. or would it not produce enough flow?

It can work I’ve seen people build stuff that works ok but it adds work to an already. Busy day. Honestly the sand isn’t good right now. We need some really big storms to tear up the beach and the jetty construction as it’s brought in a lot of overburden.
