- The class visits gold miner Rob Repin near Liberty, Washington.
Rob featured in PBS television short video: • Liberty Gold Mines | N...
Rob in Nick's backyard in 2020: • ‘Nick From Home’ Lives...
Any time I see a Rob episode pop up it feels like Christmas. I could listen to him talk about gold and mining all day.
Very generous of the Gold Miners to spend a full day with our students. They are also Students of Geology as they share their knowledge with us.
My thoughts exactly! Rob and the boys generously showed their work and it was great to see that the students were really excited.
Where’s it’s?
This episode is as much about "Ancient Rivers of the Pacific Northwest" as it is about "Liberty Gold." It was very generous of the miners to share their time and knowledge.
Rob Repin, you are IMPRESSIVE! This was such a treat and so extremely interesting. Thank you for your generosity, and thanks Professor Zentner, for sharing the amazing learning opportunity.
.
This episode was pure gold. ⛏️💰
I have no words to describe how incredible this segment is. Absolutely fascinating. Thank you, so very much, for posting this video and letting us all experience just a piece of what your students got to experience. Rob Repin is so knowledgeable and insightful. He's a pleasure to listen to. Thank you.
My absolute favourite phrase: "I can't just accept that something is, I have to know why." DAMN, that is WHAT SCIENCE IS ALL ABOUT! He didn't HAVE to go and get a doctorate in geology, he was so curious, that he found the sources and learned it on his own. The pioneers of geology, back in the 1700s in England (like William Smith), were like this guy. An insatiable curiosity is the first requirement . . .
Wa. native here, Cudos to you and Rob for putting out some great instructional videos!
Thanks for taking the time to share your knowledge fellas!
Educated reactions (wow moments) from both the teachers, students and fans= Priceless
I am in awe of Rob's breadth of knowledge, enthusiasm for teaching and his generosity for sharing. Oh and his mining partner also gets the same kudos! And thanks Nick for sharing with the rest of us. Cheers from Minnesota!
What an incredible Rob Repin gave to the students and to us the viewers, to see his operation, I am so impressed with his passion for knowledge, to be self taught is a wealth and a gift. I hope he writes about it all. I could tell the energy was so high with this group, I was impressed with the microcope, the tools, the machines, the walk inside a real mine, blew my socks off.
What a great field trip for everyone! How cool of Rob to invite all of you and share all of his knowledge and experience. Thanks for bringing us along!
Watching this has been a thrill for me and I'm positive the students will definitely have this field trip at the top of their list. THANK YOU ROB AND HIS FELLOW MINERS for sharing your time, knowledge and experience with all of us! And THANK YOU NICK for making this possible.
Nice to see Andrew was there, nicely protected and equipped. Very generous of everyone to share their time.
These are the common "in the field" experience that MAKE geologists out of students. Similar meetings took me into the field many, many years ago, and I'm grateful for a career I never imagined in geology, mostly in energy and mining and a bit in environmental work. It is fascinating stuff. Hope these students are inspired to major in geology... Well done Nick Zentner for making this happen.
That was sooooo interesting!!! It’s wonderful that Rob opens his mines to share his wealth of knowledge.
Not everyday you see inside of a working mine. I had no idea Rob was digging out the bottom of an ancient river bed. It make sense that is where the gold is.
Thank you Rob and good luck!!!!
Thank you so much Nick for sharing these trips with us!!! This one is especially exciting!! 😁
Could say this about all of Nick's videos, but especially didn't want this one to end. I grew up around old mines and miners in Eastern Oregon and it's always fascinated me. Spent time combing the Sumpter Valley Dredge tailings in my youth.
Thanx for bringing us along, Nick! 👍🏽😍🤩
Nick, this was/is AMAZING!! Randy is a treasure! Great addition to the Geo 351 class. Thanks Nick.
Cool! Loved the bit about indicator minerals! This is why it is so fun to learn from successful hunters. Thanks, again, Nick and Rob, for letting us be flies on the wall and get the chance to learn so much!
Rob is such a great guy. Big thanks to him for all the stuff he's done with you over the years, from the viewers at home.
I worked 14 years in a limestone quarry, part of my job was to run a CAT 330 excavator with a hyd hammer on it to break up boulders too large to fit the crusher. The gad on the hammer was 3' x 7", the boulders were anything from 6' to 25'. Yes the excavator will beat you up! When friends and relatives would come to visit, I would make them each stand with a hand on a different boulder, then tell them they were the first human to ever touch that rock. Some 20Ma old formation. Thanks Nick and Rob and Crew!
What an amazing opportunity for these students! Wow! What a guy. So generous with his time and stuff that he took time to save. Those fossils as gifts are so rare.
Always love learning from Rob. He's got some pretty cool old equipment there too.
Love this video so much! Drove by Rob's mine two weeks ago and wanted to stop by but didn't want to bug him. This video does the job. Thanks, Nick and Rob!!!
You built Rob up pretty good in class yesterday, and he came through beautifully as usual! Really enjoyed it.
You got to love it!
Such beautiful souls associated with this channel. Like Nick, Rob is a giver. The most amazing people are those willing to share their knowledge. He could’ve been a great teacher were it not for his pirate like love of treasure.
Great video as usual. So good of Rob to open his mine and knowledge to the students.
Very apparent to see the youngsters rapt attention to him in his openness about his occupation and wide self taught knowledge.
Good to see an actual application of the content of Nick’s lectures.
Thanks to both Rob and Scot for sharing their time and knowledge
These videos are the best. An archeologist friend turned me on to Nick and I am hooked. We have traveled our state for 50 years and now look at it from a Nick Zentner Point of view!
Rob will be remembered as the diamond godfather, once truely discovered,
I am very impressed with your students. What an honor to meet them in this format.
Last time I drove through Swauk Prairie, I watched a herd of elk feeding. One of my favorite drives when I am in that area.
A million dollar tour for free that was out standing ! your crew is made up of grate people reflected by a grate leader thank you
Wow, what a great episode. Love how the lectures tie in with the field trips. What a great way to learn and put it all together. Rob is also such an interesting guy. Could listen to him talk all day. His aspiration to learn and get the "why" to the origins of gold is so impressive.
Great video Nick! Thanks for taking us along with you. Just wish I could have been there in person!
I could listen to Rob talk for hours. Thanks again for taking us along.
Wow! How cool, a fireside talk!
A really interesting guide.
Congrates! Snickerdoodles all around in Geo-351 from Vinman's Bakery. Enjoy a thank you for an outstanding video.
Have been watching the Iceland eruption with utmost interest, looking back at all your lectures back with regards to the flood basalts and its all happening live,. you are the reason for my curiosity ! .. love your work
Thank You Nick and Liberty. Awesome video.
Thanks Nick, Rob is the best, hard working intelligent gentlemen! I would love to buy him a beer or three and talk with him! 🍺
Oh to be 30 years younger and taking your class. What a treat to sit at the feet of a master miner.
I'm glad you and Rob have hooked up and become friends and collaborators. Very valuable and very special. Thank you.
What an astonishingly generous person that these geology classes are so fortunate to have in their careers. Rob in his own way has the vocational attitude that also makes s great teacher and selfless to boot. How I envy those students
Kevin Fox Sligo Ireland
Thanks for sharing this with us Nick.
I love to hear from those who work the earth/hands on.
Kinda shocked how clean the mining areas are.
Beautiful presentation.
Brilliant. An info packed episode with loads of context. And Nick, if this was filmed on a phone then you're getting pro. well smooth.
A big thank you too all! Hopefully someday the students will be the ones to answer many of Rob's questions.
Nick! 👏👏🇺🇸
You should do Paulina Peak (Ore.) one of these days! “the OTHER Crater Lake”!
Beautiful day!!! Always enjoy all programs! Esp. field trips! Wow a fire and souvenirs! What a nice gold miner and friends!! I hope they get some kind of $ compensation. Mining is hard, expensive work...
Hey Rob and Scott, that was really nice of you two to do this for the class. I will be out again this summer with my kids and grandkids to look for more gold and as usually I will stop and get more of your paydirt. I have missed meeting you in person but Scott's really a nice guy too..... Scott Wheeler
Thanks Nick. That was fun! and educational.
Remarkable footage and Rob is a complete gentleman and gracious to share his mine and knowledge to the next generation! Thank you so very much for sharing that with us Nick!
Hey Rob- I'm a few hours down 97 and hearing you talk about your early days was awesome. You're an inspiration! I have my own mine down here and I totally feel you on the broken toes. HA! The guy you want to talk to about diamonds is a Dr. Dan Hausel. He has a couple books out you will surely find interesting.
Love that area! I’m really glad that you’re helping to create some more gold prospectors we need as many people as we can get
What a great field trip. It’s my first time hearing Rob talk. What an amazing wealth of understanding he’s build up. Let’s get more interviews with him! Thanks for sharing this!
Awesome to see a working gold mine. Thanks Nick, Rob and Scott!
Thank you for the wonderful field trip video, Nick. In my mind I was mesmerized by what was being said and shone about that gold and how it is mined.Thank you Rob for sharing some of the knowledge you have accumulated with everyone. I'd like to watch and listen to this all day if I could. Thanks again Nick, this has been great.
You student was very correct in the last episode. This was a once in a lifetime opportunity. So thankful to you and Rob for the chance to be a part of it!
yeahhhhhh, getting THIS one now!!!! this will be very new and interesting... thank you, with all my heart! for sharing this.. 🙂🥰... playing tag, still...
Lucky Kids! Professor, you seem to be measured by the generosity of spirit you attract.
Thank you Nick!
Mining and geology are the reason we have an industrial civilization. Good luck to all of you. 👍
I hope the students really understand and appreciate the opportunity before them ! Awesome.
Needed to add it was a wonderful wonderful show. Mr Ripin is so nice and knowledgable. I hear his voice every time I pandemic and start to sweral
Sorry about auto correct. Was trying to say when I am panning I hear mr Ripin say side to side not sweral
@@jeffbybee5207 I'm so glad you came back and explained that! ;-)
Thx for the trip to the mine, Nick. Interesting stuff. (The only problem with the video is it's too short, and I wanted more when it was over!) And thanks, Rob and Co., for letting "us" in. Hope
to read about a huge Liberty diamond find in the near future.
How wonderful! Thanks to everyone who made this possible for all the students.
O how i'd love to go in that mine and find a piece of gold myself!
Listening to Rob, one cannot help but get enthusiastic...
Outstanding Field Trip!! Thanks for taking us along.
You should do a geologic hiking guide book Nick! Teach people geology while they hike around here. I know I would buy. 👍
Watching full screen and volume up. Thank you Nick and Rob.
Really cool that Rob is willing to take time to explain why gold is found in certain places . Layman's terms
Outstanding
Fantastic episode this is so great for people who are on other parts of the planet thank you
Fascinating stuff.
Rob Repin is so free with his knowledge.
Not something one might normally expect from gold miners ...
I'm sure little nuggets of knowledge come back the other way too but he's a generous mine of information.
They clearly put some thought into the prep for the visit.
Very nice touch.
Ah thanks for sharing this one, I love listening to Rob and all the students interact :)
A must see for Jack London fans, makes it a lot easier to understand and envision his tales.
Fantastic: the tour, the openness, the knowledge, all of it so special. Thank you, Rob Repin and Scott, for this in-depth look into your gold-mining life. I'm glad your hard work pays off.
Wow, that was awesome. Rob's a great guy...you don't find many folks willing to share their prospecting secrets in such details as was demonstrated on this wonderful field trip. Thank you.
Simply amazing!!
I hope Rob finds purple garnet someday soon, that would be awesome.
Oh so nice. Fossils
I remember well my visit to Rob's mine, they were in the process of breaking thru on a tunnel, I didn't go in very deep as I didn't have boots suitable to handling all that mud but Rob showed me how to pan for gold and I bought a scoop of pay dirt and I got a little gold for a souvenir. Well worth the visit and I learned and saw stuff in this video that I didn't see when I was there since I really didn't go in the mine. I've gotta admit, I'd love to work there long enough to have a piece of wire gold to call my own - that stuff is way too expensive for me to buy
What a great day studying Earth Mother!! Thanks for letting us tag along :)
Who hoo what a wealth of knowledge in those miners...cool
I really admire you Nick. I'd love to do what you do, helping young minds develop a love for geology. I gotta get off my butt and go back to school...
This is exactly what academia needs.kids pay attention.
This is how people used to learn trades, skills, a specialized profession. having it passed down from elders of each generation.I hope you all absorbed a wealth of knowledge from this old timer.he did the same from someone at one time.then aquired more knowledge to hone his craft with desire .
NICK!how lucky your kids are to get this privilege.its lost on so many youth.keep kicking ass fine sir!
469 upvotes on RUclips, and ZERO downvotes??? I don't think I've ever seen that before!!
Rob...the excavator would not beat you up if you ran it with the blade facing the front and down on the bedrock...it will help take the rocking motion out of it. Hope that helps you and thanks for showing the students and us your mine. Best of luck to you sir.
What a gift to your students!
So cool so much gold they just pick it up off the ground! Would.love.to spend a day just helping.out.there once in a lifetime experience!
I know it's a silly thing to notice, but at about 24:00, that conveyor belt is in great shape! I've worked around MUCH worse!
Feeling a bit low today. This was just what I needed to distract and enrich my malfunctioning mind.
Honestly, though, I’d more interested in the palm fossils than any gold but that doesn’t make this any less interesting to me overall. It is fascinating to see where gold comes from, in its natural habitat, so to speak. Thank you.
There were palm branches and leaves in the roof of Donny Johnson's No.2 tunnel. I saw them.
That man knows his business. Wow
Awesome field trip!!
That was truly inspiring and informative Dr. Zentner. Thank you.
Thanks for this! Really appreciate your videos
Great stuff, great guys and wonderful students thank you for taking us along👍🏻
With out a doubt that was a great field trip -- those old rivers roared with water -- looks like braided river deposits in AK.
Hey Rob, I had some beautiful Pyrope garnets on my "Ten Cent" claim out of Granite, Ore. They were long ones about 1/2 to 3/4 in. long and were right on bedrock.
Thank you all.
