I think this movie would have been received better had they made it a further sequel to the first 2 movies by making each of the characters have direct link to the originals. Leslie Jones could have been Winston's niece, Melissa McCarthy a fan girl of Ray, Kristin a former student of Peter who wants to be a far more legitimate scientist than he was and Kate McKinnon is obviously Egon's and Janine's daughter.
Yeah they are. I don't get all the haters who reckon this movie had terrible CGI, I thought the CGI was actually quite good. I have to laugh at those who say the CGI was "unrealistic" - like, they're freakin' ghosts, they're supposed to be unrealistic!
The colours were all wrong for a horror scene. It was too well lit, the pallet was wrong, the spiny glow stick device and the blue lit door my me think I was at the winter wonderland in London and I'd just bought a glow stick and was about to go into the ice bar. The pacing was wrong, it was too quick. There was no trepidation, the product placement and cheap gags further helped to ruin it. The original Ghostbuster scene where they meet the ghost for the first time is a master class in film making. It was well paced, not over acted. They were in a dark, damp musty basement section of a library. I was cramped. The appeared to be in an infinite windy maze which created more trepidation the future they wondered in. Bill Murray walking a few paces behind not saying much but giving the odd look to say 'These are my idiot friends and I'm following them here to look for a ghost. They're idiots' was brilliantly done. His then change to fear when he say the ghost and pulling the others aside to have a conference on what to do next and it turning out the the others had not planned on what to do when they actually saw a ghost was perfect. They women just immediately went to shake the ghosts hand after seeing it for the first time without fear. This is one of the many reasons this is a terrible film and is hated by many. It was the wrong people, with very little movie making skill that put this together.
This scene was fine. It's the rest of the move that was a problem. Especially later on with balls-to-the-wall action and over-the-top theatrics. This doesn't need to be a Marvel movie; just stick to Ghostbusters.
I liked it, it definitely wasn’t able to top the og’s, but it still is a fun ride, the jokes, (MOST) of the cgi, the ghost designs, the soundtrack the characters and the cinematography were great, not nearly as good as the classics, but still, an fun ride! I give it a solid 7/10!
Honestly what makes Holtzmann work is that she takes something as mundane as eating chips and brings it about out of nowhere, making it funny because it's a quiet scene, you don't see it coming, it adds to a humorous effect, and she compliments it with a unique line.
That's what makes this cringe. It's such an unatural reaction to seeing a ghost that it just reminds the audience that this is nothing but a bunch forced comedy, leaving nothing interesting about the individuality of the character. Just a generic comedy relief, except the entire cast are clowns. It was not funny at all.
