How big Youkai Mountain is takes some explaining It's based on a small mountain range called Yatsugatake, which is a collection of middlingly sized volcanic peaks. Legend has it that they were once just one mountain, but the goddess who lives at the summit of Mount Fuji smashed it to pieces because it was bigger than her mountain, leaving it as the cluster of humps it is today. Youkai Mountain is based on the unsmashed version of Yatsugatake, so a tldr answer for its size is 'bigger than Mount Fuji'
1:50 Well it was usually shown that Youkai Mountain is so big that just about anyone who isn't Aya takes so long to fly to the top that all games that involve climbing the mountain during the day always end with the characters reaching the top at night. So it's *VERY TALL* if you ask me.
fun fact: in Takane's second spell Forest Sign "Innermost Forest Region", if you get too close to her during that spell she counters with aimed large bullets.
This is actually not the first appearance of Yamawaro in the series. They previously appeared in chapter 13 of Wild and Horned Hermit. Takane is just the first named Yamawaro to appear.
Worth mentioning that Takane's card reduces cost by a whooping 50% which makes some cards extremely cheap and some expensive ones (such as Mokou's phoenix tail) very reasonable. As her spells are tricky, but for her non-spells (and first card) I find it easier to stay near her rather and move than stay down.
Small details some people already know by now: The green yin-yang orbs near the beginning of the stage aim their bullets at you, so it's actually just streaming. Speaking of yin-yangs, in stages 1 and 2, they shoot revenge bullets at you on Lunatic. As mentioned in the comments already, Innermost Forest Region shoots mentos bullets at you if you get close to Takane. Green Spiral is definitely a wake-up call (what the heck is this doing in stage 2...), but funnily enough, that spell also has aimed components. 5:12 "You may only be able to pick one of each character card" Takane in Reimu's scenario: "Speaking of information, there's actually one more rule when it comes to buying and selling cards. You can only buy one card with each transaction. Apparently, you get in BIG trouble if you break this rule." *evil grin* We'll get to that next time...
Takane's non-spells are rather simple in execution yet hard to dodge at the same time. Horizontal danmaku is right, even on Easy I can't let my guard down. Also some fans absolutely adore Takane's hairstyle, so wavy and billowy
Bad things happen if you steal them or buy more than one... We never see that but it is kind of hinting at their true origin and what person is behind it all
According to the plot, they're just paper if stolen for reasons. You have to buy them for the powers. Unless you use that shoplifting bug in the demo. Heheh.
3:40 - **Family Mart Flashbacks** Also sorry about not making the corrections on my comment on the stage 1 video. Every time I try to edit it, it says “returned error.” Thankfully you can just look at the replies and see the corrected info.
Takane's become one of my favorite Touhou characters! She's super cute and her spells are pretty cool and unique! It's also quite funny how much this game parallels Touhou 10. Not EXACTLY, but it's pretty close!
Takane reminded me of something: There was never a specific character who was specifically said to lead the kappas. Unlike the Tengus who have (the still unseen) Tenma (at least we finally have an idea of what a Great Tengu looks like) The closest we have is Nitori, who generally bosses the other kappas around like she owns the place. Say, would Nitori count as the (unofficial) leader of the kappas?
This is addressed in one of the manga. Kappa society is basically a bunch of nerds doing their own things. It's a lot flatter than the hierarchical tengu society. I guess you can say Nitori is the "leader" in the way how in a group of friends there's the one guy who takes more initiatives.
2:26 Oh so you know about that game, huh? Do you know how much time my little sister has spent on WW Smooth Move? ...Yeah...I don't know either. She *LOVED IT* for sure. And I played just about every WW game that came after. I look forward to this game too :)
I think it's more accurate to say that there are safer cards for getting more money, rather than better cards in regards to the miracle mallet. None of the other cards really compare to the MM when it comes to sheer money turnout, but you have to play aggressively and pretty thoroughly plan when you use it to make it work well (you're also pretty much forced to use Sakuya if you intend to play for score to maximize money gain with her bomb) Also fun fact: Takane's final is actually static, so once you figure it out you can dodge pretty much the same way every time
I still love the fact that Koishi and you are still somewhat linked together at every chance, like fate is pulling your leg. Anyways, is still curious that Takane is considered a different yokai just because she changed location, but i guess is accurate seeing that Yamawaro are believed to be kappa that migrated to mountains on cold months.
I don't like how swirly her spells get, but I think I found getting closer makes them more narrow. It just frustrates me when my brains thinks hanging out at the bottom of the screen is the safest place but then the game gets smart and makes stuff that plays against that. Next stage especially has some annoying stuff. Not a very hard stage but I do like that Zun added a forest kappa to the lore. That UFO I find is very useful for the last boss. Everything ends up being helpful in the later stages of the game or how 5th stage likes to use lasers to negate over relying on just deleting bullets. Though I wish shooting backwards with Okina's card was more helpful.
The Tanuki card is SUCH a good card, especially if you take it with you at the start. The +1 power effect takes effect then too and having 2 power stage 1 puts you way ahead of the power curve in a fun way. And if you're someone (like me) who dies a lot then raising the floor to 3 power (if you're below 3 power i think it floors it at 2) will do way more good than only losing .5 power per death.
I feel arguments could be made over which one may be technically "better" than the other, but the biggest thing is they serve the same purpose. But also, I feel the biggest issue is that if you start dying enough _for_ one to be better than the other, you have a bigger problem on your hands. Since, say you have Koishi's Hat. To fall below Mamizou's 3.0 floor range you need to die three times in close succession. If you're dying that much, that fast, you've got much bigger problems to contend with.

Yep. That's why I hate it even more-
That's a thing for quite a few bosses actually, as a "stay the fuck away" mechanism.
@@Wizzard220 Hecatia have that mechanic too.
@@Wizzard220 yup, stage 4 bosses nonspells in this game also does that if you get too close

That last spell had me scratching my head before I realised how it worked.
Mr. Omega. You do realize that the Shopping technique card also affects itself when selected, reducing its price to 40 gold.
Ah yes, Koishi and Nitori just had to do an equivalent exchange just to make Takane.
Include Tojiko I guess

4:13 Typo located.
It should be "Can't take 'em by force".
Green Nitori
If she knew you were calling her a Kappa she'd put a hit out on you, Omega.
4:48 The description is almost mocking your playstyle, in fact.
Don’t know why I misremembered you uploading on Friday and not Monday

To be fair I always go for Takane's discount card just to make buying easier.

I guess it's similar to how domesticated pig and wild boars are considered different even though they're the same species.
NitorInc's rival company - YamaWare
the feeling when marisa had to buy things she wants instead of stealing

Oui where did Koishi go
Is it me, or is one of her idle sprite offset incorrect because its like: ⬇⬇⬇⬇⬇⬆⬇⬇
A lot of the blinking sprites are offset by 1 pixel down in this game because ZUN messed up.
@@LushieTilde I thought so.

Am I the only one who thought Green Spiral/Green Tornado was the hardest spellcard in the trial?
