It's the height of the Cold War, and famous archaeologist Indiana Jones (Harrison Ford), returning from his latest adventure, finds out his job at Marshall College is in jeopardy. He meets Mutt (Shia La Beouf), a young man who wants Indy to help him find the legendary Crystal Skull of Akator, and the pair set out for Peru. However, deadly agent Irina Spalko (Cate Blanchett) is searching for the powerful artifact, too, because the Soviets believe it can help them conquer the world.

I could be wrong, but I think the lady being killed at the end was their way of saying that Humans wasn't ready for that much knowledge yet.
The Kingdom of the Crystal Skull is one of my favorite movies! The action, the adventure, the characters, etc! Sometimes, things get left out on purpose, which is fine. And the fact that this movie is different from the previous movies of the Trilogy is not a problem, IMO. Honestly, I can't wait for the fifth movie to come out!
I personally still enjoy this one quite a lot. I think it captures the same energy and fun of the original trilogy while still making it feel fresh. I go back and forth on how to feel about the inclusion of Mutt and his purpose, but I completely understand why he was written in.
My guess is (based a bit on the Marvel comic of Indy after Raiders), Marion hung around, they got engaged at some point after Raiders (1936) but broke up prior to Last Crusade (1938) - and before she left, she got pregnant which would explain Mutt's age in this in 1957 being around 18 or so. A lot of people combine aliens and crystal skulls, and their ties to archeology and Egypt and Mayan culture, etc. I always thought it was a clever way of combining archeology and Indy with a 1950's era "alien/spaceship" movie. I like to think of believing in aliens is no different than Judism (the Ark), or Christianity (the Grail), or Hindu mysticism (the Sankara Stones) and all their ties to archeology.
Let's face it, back in the 80s the female love interest was usually just an expendable character who could be disposed of by the next movie without another word, Kingdom of the Crystal fortunately went against that tradition a little. At least films like Puss in Boots had the decency to keep Kitty Softpaws a valid character in the second film while explaining her absence in the Shrek films without presenting her as a throw away female love interest.
I wouldn't want to grab a snake to pull me out of quicksand, I'm afraid I'd hurt the poor thing.
This movie received mixed reviews by Critics and fans hated the movie
It took them 17 years to make a fourth Indiana Jones movie.

It did make a lot of money at the box office, $770 million dollars against a $100 million dollar budget.
This was the first Indiana Jones film I ever watched. I don’t think it deserves that much hate. And the ant scene still scares me

It’s been 15 years since, I first saw the kingdom of the crystal 💀 in the theaters. Also, I’m looking forward to seeing the fifth movie as a last Indiana Jones movie.
Fun fact: this movie, unlike the others, takes place in the 1950s during the Cold War. The other movies all took place in the 1930s in the inter-war years between WW1 and WW2. The Cold War was a non-violent "war" of ideology between the democratic west and communist east that began after WW2 in 1945 and ended with the fall of the Soviet Union in 1991
Personally, I liked Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. It was the first Indiana Jones movie I saw before seeing the first three
I think the Crystal Skulls didn't kill the doctor, I think her mind just got overloaded with data that she could no longer process it all.
for me, the back story between Indy and Marion needed a bit more work, and Ox needed a back story as to HOW he found the Skull in the first place
amnd i recon they killed her because she had TOO much knowledge and her body couldn't cope with the influx of it all
I personally loved this one when I first saw it, the CGI may not have aged the best, but the plot with the aliens is fun while also being very creepy. John Williams once again is an absolute hero.
The scream transition got me 😂👏🏼
This is my opinion, was the weakest in the series, but at least it has some fun moments.
The Young Indiana Jones Chronical told a few more Indy adventures but they never touched on the gaps you miss between the last movie and this one. I think only one or very few episodes were set post-last crusade,
Since you like the actor that played oxley you should check him out in Hellboy
I think it would have helped if they gave flashbacks or something. Also in all indiana Jones movies as big bang theory stated everything would have happened the same without Indiana.
While it obviously isn't as good as the first three, this movie was still amazing. It does not deserve any hate it gets.
I know many people didn't like Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, but honestly, I thought it was okay, much like Temple of Doom.

It's a shame that Sean Connery didn't want to return for this movie because he loved the last crusade
I think he retired from acting in 2003.
@@RB01.10 he retired in 2006 but briefly done some voice over work in 2012 but there was a chance he was going to be in the movie it's just that in the end after Connery's previous movies before it didn't do too well he thought it was time to stop as he didn't want the movie to bomb

I really liked this one. I don't think any of them take themselves too seriously and all are enjoyable in their own right. I think at the end, what I took from it, was that humans only use a small % of our minds and opening hers completely when not created to have that knowledge caused her to combust but the alien wouldn't stop because that was what she had asked for. Play stupid games...
I don’t know if anyone remembers this, but there is a TV show called the adventures of young Indiana Jones best show it was just so amazing you get to see how his relationship with his dad starts out and meet his mom and go travel. The world it’s really cool.
I remember reading from somewhere that Disney is going to make remake that series. Not any idea if it's true and when it's gonna happen

This movie is still my personal favorite of the franchise. The same with the mummy, the cg is alright but i cant help but loved the characters in these two film
I love this entry I don't get the hate for this one as I think it's very well done I get the adventure doesn't involve something supernatural or religious which is what indys adventures are mostly but I think having it be alien's is interesting as that's a possibility and it harkens back to area 51 just like in the 1st movie I think it's alot better than most people give it credit for Imo
Interdimensional beings, in point of fact.
Still, I love this film and the whole franchise, including the Young Indiana Jones TV series.

iirc. they didn't kill the russian doctor intentionally. She wanted knowledge ... of everything ... so they gave her what she wished for. And that killed her.
Get a backpack and put books inside. How many do fit? Maybe a dozen (depending on book size and backpack size)? Well, now try to fit an entire library into that backpack ... the backpack will burst, because there is simply not enough space for the books to be.
Same happened to her ... there was not enough capacity in her brain to encompass literally everything, so she burst ...
At least that's what I get out of it ...
Her death scene was pretty cool though, for reasons you said.
She wanted it all, and it costed her her life.

hey cody, loved the rractions to this series and i just wanted to clarify that the angle they were going for with the plot is that its based on an actual mystery of the crystal skulls which are real life historical artifacts thst have been discovered throughout time and they dont look how they do in this movie, but more like human skulls but crystal and there are documentaries about them and there is a lot of speculation and theories saying that they could be alien and i love that they incorporated that with them being ancient interdimensional beings and if any franchise or person is going to explore that its going to be Dr. Henry Jones Jr. and i love that the franchise went there because it think it makes perfect sense. as far as Marion, the franchise has always introduced characters with little backstory and not elaborating a lot about things like that and even the old ones will just introduce new characters randomly that have history with Indy but to us they are kinda just dropped in for the story like Mac or even that guy at the beginning of temple of doom who gets shot and claims to have been on many adventures with him and same goes for short round and Sallah
my favorite film in the series is The last crusade but this is a close second for me because i love father and son stories and they both are after that it would go raiders and then temple thats just my opinion. but I also have a lot of nostalgia for this one because i grew up with it as a 2000s kid.

I never understood why they couldn’t just go with aliens, why make them inter dimensional? The movie doesn’t make sense, but it has good moments. The hat fake-out at the end being my favourite
This movie maybe the weakest out of the Indiana Jones movies, it still has its thrilling moments, especially the scene where they get attacked by the natives.

The crystal skulls are a real thing, found in different parts of the world, one was found when excavating the Mayan ruins, no one knows where they came from or how they were made

I’m conflicted with this one. I’m Peruvian so it was nice to see Indy come to my country, but the way they portrayed Peru in the movie was nothing like real life Peru. Still, it’s a fun watch!
Personally this film is my favorite of the Indiana Jones films, but I get why people don't like it. Not gonna stop me from liking it

Apparently Critics say the CGI is really bad and it has not aged very well.
And the CGI is a bit overused and distracting at times, not to mention some scenes are just stupid and far fetched even for this series.
Such as the infamous Nuke the Fridge scene that Indy somehow gets no injuries from, the monkey swinging scene that looks like something out of Tarzan, and the shot of the branch holding the tank which is a bit ridiculous.
But yeah the film isn’t bad, it is nice to see Karen Allen as Marion returning (even though she is a bit underused) and the overall cast does well. The action scenes are still well done too.

The idea of aliens, the legend of El Dorado, the return of Indy and Marion, the twist of Mutt’s relationship with Indy, and Irene and the Russians was what I enjoyed about this film. I wish the story would’ve been better written and in depth. For example, they could’ve given more details of Oxley and Indy’s friendship other than they were colleagues,they could’ve had an additional scene between Indy and Marion discussing about their relationship now that Mutt’s been revealed to have been Indy’s son, and that at the wedding, they should’ve made the kiss passionate and not like “I’m marrying Indy and forget Collins.” If you’d like more adventure films, I recommend Dreamwork’s The Road to El Dorado, Finding Ohana, The Goonies, National Treasure 1-2, and Cutthroat Island. 🤠💎👽🛸💛🧡🤎

i know we gave this one a lot of flak when it was released but aside from some BADLY dated CGI there's really nothing in this story any more unusual than the previous entries.
I Sorta don't really like this film, its giving it a Sad Feeling because of How its Showing Indiana Jones being old and Weak a bit in the movie,

I didn't mind the alien plot line in this, I just thought that some of the stunts were too showy. It felt like they were trying too hard. The whole jeep fight in the jungle scene was a bit much. The Tarzan bit, the rapier fight, the giant ants.. eh.
I still enjoy watching the movie, but I can see why people don't like it as much.

I did not expect to take one big chunk of the movie and just skipped to the end of the motorcycle chase. See this is what I don't like about reactions with movies they just cut away from the best parts of the scenes involved
