- Hello there, and welcome to another embarrassing AF cleaning video! HA! Okay, so this is technically round 2 of closet decluttering/organizing/deep cleaning here on my channel, but this time I got serious and completely gutted my closet and started from scratch! I need to do this. My biggest advice for anybody decluttering clothes is to ask yourself: would you wear this if you knew you were going to be photographed? If these answer is no, you probably don't really love that item. Obviously things like work uniforms are not subject to enjoyment, but in general, your wardrobe should be full of things you enjoy wearing. Your clothes should make you feel confident and comfortable.

That closet is as big as my sisters whole room. I still couldn’t live with that many clothes, way too many choices to make each morning. I just end up with like 3 pieces i wear over and over until they break haha
The advice my dad gave me to fancy outfits: wear them at home. You wear it or leave it to decay.

I would love to do that, but having to big dogs, especially when one's a husky and they're cuddly makes it hard to wear the good stuff at home. 🤣

That's really good advice. My family on my mother's side is the exact opposite - "saving" everything because it's too precious - up to the point of hoarding because they wouldn't even burn candles if they are "too pretty". I'm now actively trying to learn to have a different mindset. I want to enjoy life and the good things in it and not let it all go to waste by begrudging myself.

Love a good bit of tights storage! My current method is to tuck a pair into a loo roll tube so I can label what tights they are as I got so fed up of digging through a heap of black for that one pattern that fit the vibe for the day
I'm using small freezing bags from IKEA to store my thighs so they are not scratched and I can label them, quite the same Idea :)

YESSSS I'm so fricken happy someone can relate! I thought I was the only one not doing a capsule wardrobe these days, but it's honestly not for me.
I have like 30 plain black shirts. I can’t even fathom 30 pieces total 😳
30 is usually for one season ! I have 60 items including shoes and coats (not pajamas/accessories) etc and that does not keep me from dressing super fancy with corsets and long skirts and platform boots (I am @the.catharsis you maybe saw my photos around instagram). It is enough for me and i feel happier with less. Although noone should shame Someone else for wanting more clothes. I just think that over 100/150 items it becomes a bit excessive and you cant have a use of everything

Girl I feel your pain lol. I used to be so much more organized but over the years I got really off track and I need to get back. I wish I could say my issue was clothes but mine is boxes of stuff. I moved in to take care of my mom when she was terminal and then I just stayed to help my dad out cause it was just me and my daughter anyways and he never really lived alone so I went from a 3 bedroom house to trying to fit my stuff in the closet and garage along with their stuff. I just need to go in and re-evaluate what I really still need lol. Great video I love the before and after!

Dee Hyche lol i don’t think my closet have ever actually been messy before. i don’t know how other people’s closets get like that since 3 out of 4 of the bars where i hang my clothes are empty as well as several drawers. but i guess it’s because i choose not to participate in fast fashion and over /mass consumerism. it’s ok tho my sister makes that up for me and buys a ton of clothes lol.

Mint ends sound cute though!! For this color I used the Gargoyle color from Lime Crime and mixed it with their conditioner and left it on for about 15 just to freshen the color and love how it turned out! Gargoyle by itself is darker than this but the conditioner dilutes it enough to get a nice silver!
@@JadeTheLibra Ohh thank you so much for the information!!! I'm gonna try that!!! I tried the Arctic Fox Sterling color and it just flopped. But I also knew my hair wasn't light enough fully for the silver EXCEPT my ends... which went mint, lmfao.

It's apparently due to a color you have underneath your white reacting making it go green. oVertone made my hair go more silver then arctic fox but still didnt get exactly the silver I wanted. I recently gave up on silver and dyed my hair pink if you wanna go watch that video on my channel!

The closet is the most emotional declutter in anyone's life and you really gave great inspiration! Love your folding techniques and the fact that it now looks like a boutique 😍 it in turn, keeps inspiration by noticing quicker what's "out of place" and fixing it in that moment! First off, love seeing a video like this from someone with a more ~alternative~ aesthetic, a lot of the people that do these kind of videos are very "normie" lol
I was never an organized person at all, and I used to be an actual literal hoarder. The Netflix KonMari show literally changed my life, and helped me find minimalism. Organizing is just a skill and anyone can learn how to do it. It is just harder for some people to actually want to. I'm totally obsessive about it now though hahaha tidying and decluttering has become a bit of a hobby for me.

Ghooouuul, I cleaned out my closet too for the new year, but I kept most of my clothes and shoes, AND STILL BOUGHT new stuff 😅 I may have a teensy problem. I want to get rid of more, but I wear the majority of my closet! So conflicted!

if you're wearing it I don't see the problem :)
Something you could try doing is taking everything that you don't wear on a day-to-day basis, put it away somewhere for a long period of time (like half a year, but you could set your own time limit) and see which items you miss during that time. And then get rid of those items that you didn't think about wearing.
And I've also people have a rule where for every new item of clothing they buy, they sell or donate an item they already have.
Maybe one of those methods could work for you, good luck ^^

So I'll get inspired and not have anything to work on, which drives me crazy. I've moved a TON, including back and forth out of state in a short period of time, so I've got my own thing going that I know isn't for everyone. This is like closet porn. Serious goals. I only wear black and white really so I like to separate things by type rather than colour but I loved all of the storage solutions you came up with and just how much of a dramatic difference there was between your before and after. Also can't imagine anyone not loving your voice overs, especially the part about the Dyson 😂

This is the hardest part!! Style is so personal it's no wonder my kitchen stays so clean... 😂 getting rid of a cantaloupe knife is so much easier than anything in a closet... even if it's broken!
When I don't use an item but I love it for sentimental reasons, I take some photos of it, or of me wearing it, print them out, stick them in a scrapbook, and write up why I love it. And then I let it move on. Or, for old graphic tees, I cut them up and sew them into a blanket 😉

never be ashamed of your clutter, we are all hoarders and i am proud of it!!! i would rather have tons of junk to look at than to have nothing and be bored and go out of my head! at least with all my stuff and junk i will never be bored!!!

I totally agree it's different for everyone. I have a third of your closet lol. I organize by type first, then from dark to light. It works for me because the weather where I live can be unpredictable and/or sometimes I'm just looking for a vibe. Like, "today I want to look casual sophisticated and it's only slightly chilly", so I go to my long sleeves to my portofino shirts. Or "today is hot af and I want to look cute", so I go to my shorter dresses or short sleeved shirts.

Hey Ghoul hey! I love my Dyson vacuum. It makes cleaning up so fast and easy! I swear i get tears in my tights just by blinking while wearing them. But i like to keep them for layering underneath pants on cold winter days. It prevents me from immediately throwing them out.

I loved your video. My closet is waaaay smaller. I lost quite a bit of weight and had to go through my closet (still doing it) and got rid of sooo much stuff and donated it. I got my daughter and her friend to be critical friends on items I was on the fence about and told them to be brutally honest. I realized I just didn’t keep up with my style because it was so hard to find things that I liked and looked so frumpy and not me. I am finding it very therapeutic and trying to get back to what I really like/brings me joy and screams my personality and aesthetic. It definitely has been eye opening and quite hard.
You did a good job. It's smart for someone like you who gets so much from brands to declutter seasonally and sell of stuff. If not you will end up in the same mess again and again. Set a date on your phone every 3 months and sell stuff on to others. That way you never end up in the "before" again

We decluttered after the first of the year, and donated about 3 big lawn bags full. It's so satisfying to go in the closet and seeing it clean, and have room left over (no, we're not going to fill it with more stuff). It's a big stress buster when it's all done. My husband did his, and I did mine. It took 2 days. (Jan Griffiths).

Oh dear. I just decluttered my own wardrobe and filled 2 bags with stuff to sell... and 23 bags with stuff I donated 😂 in my defense, I'm a Leo with poor impulse control and a late-night shopping addiction.
I have a minimalist wardrobe with almost only one of each but in my defense I am a Virgo with OCD 😂 these amounts of clothes give me anxiety but I looooove decluttering videos. So satisfying.
About the shopping impulse problem. Try this, make a “Wish List” everything must go on the list for at least 24 hours. Worked great for me! I made a goal of something I really wanted after just a few months couldn’t believe how much better my money situation was! Mostly everything that I would put on the list, lost its appeal the next day!
@@ginamiller6754 oh I'm certainly curbing my impulse these days. I've put myself on a spending limit, in which I only allow myself to spend money on one specific day a week. It forces me to plan out what I actually need, and by the time I think of clothes shopping, the day is over and I have to wait a whole week to even consider it again 😂
Also a Leo, same on the lousy impulse control. Would be why I've got seemingly 90 million coffee cups and mom grumping every time I so much as *look* at them.
Oh i feel this so hard. I recently purged my entire closet and got rid of like 12 trash bags for the women's shelter and another trash bag or two to go to a friend who doesnt have much. I also got rid of about 6 boxes of shoes and a few boxes books. Yes i had a massive spending problem but ive got it for the most part under control now.
Even though this was uploaded a long time ago, I just discovered the video and have to say you have inspired me to get rid iof so much crap that I have been holding on to. It is such a freeing feeling seeing how clear your living space became and mine is getting like that to.

for me when I cleaned out my closet I put my "maybes" in a bag in the garage, and if I missed it then I would keep it, but if we are being honest... if your going back and forth with yourself on whether or not to keep to, you should probably give it away

I use clear divided containers from the hardware store, for my jeweley storage. They stack & can be used for different size items. They are used for nuts, bolts, & screws. Easy to find certain items because they are clear. They don't take up that much space. Highly recommend them!
I love organizing my closet by colors too, I am so particular about too, exactly like you are doing, it has to be a gradient 😂💕 and Jade I am OBSESSED with my Dyson so I am with you there that thing has changed my life.

Yeah, only take what you really need to college. Back when I went I regretted taking soo much stuff bc it was such a pain to move it in and out of dorms.
Great job! How ever long you worked on this: You can really be proud of yourself for finishing such a huge task. I don't have that many clothes but I can relate both to the forgotten stuff on chairs/ laundry baskets and the gradient color scheme.

Storing scarves in the boxes also keeps them from getting dust/ animal hair on them; or from falling off and getting trampled, snagged, or ripped. 💜🖤💜🖤
I absolutely love your closet. That's one of our big projects this year is to make our closet bigger. I think I've said this to you before, but my biggest things I have a problem getting rid of are my boots and deck shoes and of course my band/ concert shirts. I started folding my thing's using her method last year and it's so nice to be able to see everything. The way I organize my shirts are similar to your method as well. The only difference is I color code by what type of top it is. So hoods and sweaters go from lite to dark etc. Also this isn't a organizational tip, but it helps to keep my more delicate clothing safe. I have antique dressers. So the wood in the drawers is a little rough. So I will use either old gift boxes or anything like that to put in drawers, wich also work as dividers for my sweatpants and leggings kind of situations. For bigger drawers I will lay a cloth down as a buffer. I really want to sand and maybe paint or do a clear gloss on the inside drawers. But, that will have to be a big project for this summer because it is just way to cold for all that. Lol
And I get told that I have too many shoes, when I have 5-6 of them and the ones I wear the most have been broken (they don't hold out water anymore) 3 months after I bought them. And that was 2 years ago... The rest are my "serious" adulting type of shoes that I wear to work by season/weather or my winter Icebugs. I mean, okay... :D
Very nice declutter. You have still 3 times as many clothes than I do probably, but I like watching organizing videos as I can't do that myself as much.

Ok, holy smoke, how loaded are you? :D I personally don't comprehend how someone even can be happy with as many clothes, but we're all different. And as uneasy I feel watching the start, it actually makes the video really interesting with such a drastic change and oh-my-god I love the organisation situation you got going on! My OCD is extremely happy with watching things being fitted into a perfect size boxes and shelves. I do that all the time and I tweak and declutter my wardrobe few times a year - and making everything visible and accessible is such a game changer. And colour sorting
