"In a part originally written for Adolphe Nourritt, the American tenor Michael Spyres caused a sensation. Both his scenic and vocal agility was remarkable and his Masaniello could already enthuse with his barcerolle. His singing is amazingly natural and the low Ds, and there are several low Ds in the score, impressed with their projection. "Ferme tes yeux" was also mastered skillfully with a sophisticated use of the "voix mixte" and an ability to diminish his notes which made a veritable moment of poetry out of this Neapolitan lullaby. The French pronouncation shined with its clarity and the volume of his voice as well as his courage was notable, too. The cherry on the cake, a resounding high C in the end confirmed that Masaniello is the firstborn brother of Raoul in Les Huguenots.

Spyres was amazing in this opera, a very successfull production. A pity there exist no complete testimony of these so gorgeous nights at the Opéra Comique. It deserved a tv broadcast

What wonderful accordion playing! It sounds just like a real orchestra! Seriously though, could you please mention who is playing? It is the Symphony Orchestra of La Mnnaie/ De Munt, who are based in Brussels, Belgium. How do I know? I was playing, and there was not an accordion in sight, though we had some wonderfulaccordion playing in "Wintermärchen", a wonderful opera by Philippe Boesmans, based on Shakespeare's "A Winters Tale".
Un anno dopo nel marzo 2013 la stessa produzione di Parigi è stata rappresentata al Petruzzelli di Bari. Io c'ero! Che fortuna.Una pietra miliare della musica e dell'opera che il coraggio del Sovrintendente del teatro Petruzzelli ha permesso di farcela ascolatare da VIVO......Ritornerà nell'oblio o qualche coraggioso teatro la rimetterà in cartellone ?....Spyres c'è ancora,affrettiamoci teatri italiani.......Superba rappresentazione dalle scene alla regia,dall'orchestra al coro,a tutti sul palcoscenico con la Muta,bravissima.Su tutti un quasi sconosciuto,per me, Michael Spyres in una parte difficilissima.Mi ha entusiasmato.... e da allora ho imparato a conoscerlo meglio...sempre bravissimo e in taluni momenti eccezionale....come ritenuto dalla maggior parte di tutti come si evince dai Vostri commenti......

Hay una versión por Kraus no esceneficada..Revuelta de Masaniello contra la monarquia española 1647. NAPOLES ¿ derrotada en la lucha de los treinta años y enfrentada con Francia...
La mujer nunca se quea quieta con la mano, no se como no se equivoca al cantar con tanto manoseo.
