Whenever I create a character, I tend to blend two arche-paths together. They seem a bit more multifaceted that way, so not just a soldier but a spiritual soldier, so they're on the path of the priest AND of the warrior. Or a scientist AND a lover. This in itself provides conflict within and without the character, inner turmoil that is delicious to dig through and have the character teach you about themself.
She’s such a great speaker. And her perspective on this stuff is like right in line with what makes things interesting for me. Loved this interview! I’ve never heard someone speak and immediately searched for the books they wrote until now.

Just a warning the title is inaccurate, it should be called *"Mythological Archetypes in Fiction"* ... when I clicked the link I was not expecting a discussion on the leveling systems of the occult.
No. But I do expect people to label their video with a more specific title. The archetypes she's referring to are more reflective of a specific subculture of mysticism than it is a overarching cross-section of all, or at least, classical, mythology. Only a small portion of the intended audience would correctly guess the subject based on this comparatively vague title.
I really enjoy her perspective, it mirrors a lot of the ways I strive to add lasting depth to my writing. I particularly love the bit about the enlightened soul that falls. Thinking of buying one of her books.

All that chakra talk is the gradient between the loin and the head. You don't have to believe it to find it useful. After all, this is to help write fiction, things that didnt happen. But maybe we should run JK Rowling up a flagpole by her underpants for letting her brain fall out writing about magic and other pseudoscience. We dont want to lose our Skeptic Card.
The use of symbols and archetype is not the issue. It is the fact that she seems to apply that type of astrological thinking to real life as well. Again, quoting a change to the era of the mage or something, as the explanation for fantasy going mainstream. There is a nuance there.
I bought her book The Power of the Dark Side. So dissapointing. She is cataloguing the types of villains, telling things we already know; she is misleading us to stereotypes instead of making us question the complex human psychology. She is neither taking risks nor making a real effort. Even the way she talks; is she babysitting someone? It is making me so upset she's got a room on this channel, where there are some real experts instead, like John Truby.
