    Great to see another upload from you! Even though I keep different species that have different habitat preferences I can still learn a ton from keepers like you. I'm sure your tegu is very happy in her new enclosure

    Great to see reptiles get the cages they deserve. Take care of your reptiles. When you make a nice enclosure it makes having them and viewing them 10 times more enjoyable if youre not in to it youre not a reptile owner and shouldnt be keeping them. This was a great video 👍

    Dunno if you will see this post or not buy I loved looking over your vids. I was going to sell my ackie monitor and stumbled on your vid about them.. i've changed my mind and plan to keep him now. After 2 years I shouldn't be giving up anyway.

      @@projectpet7828 Hey, you remembered 😂 Thank you. And yes, yes I did 🥳 I couldn’t decide between a tegu and a savy but I was in a reptile store not long ago and they had a savy, he was 10 months old and he looked so sad in his enclosure. It was far too small, had no enrichment, no water bowl to soak in and just one small piece of corkbark to hide under. It made me quite angry and I knew there and then that he was going to be mine. He deserved so much better. So I reserved him 😂 I went straight home and ordered a 210 x 90 x 90cm enclosure and 10 kg of cork rounds 😂 and I built him a castle. You were actually with us when we went shopping for substrate. My husband and I were in the garden centre and while we were looking at top soil, I told my husband what had happened with your savvies and the dangers of hidden ingredients not being clearly labelled. That was it. We went straight to the reptile store and bought everything we needed from there. Yes, it was a lot more expensive but I think you’ll agree, it was money well spent. And I finally got my savy 2 weeks ago. And he hates me 😂😂😂😂 It’s not that bad but it’s going to take a lot of patience and bribing with locusts to gain his trust. 😁 But that’s half the fun isn’t it. I think feisty animals have so much character and it’s so rewarding when you can finally get them to trust you. He hasn’t bitten me……yet 😂
      Anyway, it’s great to see you posting again and I look forward to more upcoming videos. ☺️☺️☺️ P.S. your new enclosure looks fantastic 👍🏼

      @@mrsb1212 Ofc I remember :) Congratulations! I didn't know if you'd do it but I really hoped for it. About the top soil: Like this you can be 100% percent sure there won't be anything harmful in the substrate indeed. Don't get me wrong there are 100% natural top soils as I had a really good brand that I used for years ... unfortunately the company went bankrupt and I had to look for a replacement. That is when the problem happened :( Since then I don't take any risk either. About your little devil: I would advice 2 things: First is to handle your animal in a bath tub with a little deeper water. Why? Cause once your lizard gets tired of swimming your hand would be the refuge and he would connect your hand with safeness. Obviously this method you must do under constant supervising so your lizard always has a place to retreat from the water. The other method is to handle him in the mornings before the monitor gets heated up. Like that your body heat will be a pleasant experience and yet again the monitor will connect your body, your smell to something nice, which is the heat ... not even talking about the fact that a cold animal is an animal that is easier to handle ;)

      @@projectpet7828 I wasn’t sure I was going to go for it either 😂 but sometimes the opportunity just presents itself. I gave him a bath earlier like you suggested…..I think he was trying to swim back to Africa 😂 I think I might call him Dory, just keep swimming…..just keep swimming 😂

      @@mrsb1212 Hi Mrs B! That is good, just let your savy swim till he gets tired, then he will appreciate your hands for sure. :) I'm curious how the progress will go, keep me posted ;)

    What size enclosure is this and where did you get it?

  • @pain002
    @pain002 2 года назад +1

    I had a lot of problems with building my tegu enclosure. Especially with keeping humidity. Yours looks a lot nicer than mine because I had to scrap most of the design in favor of a temporary ugly, but waterproof enclosure with less airflow

    • @projectpet7828
      @projectpet7828  2 года назад

      I have a little easier job because the enclosure is made of glass and I have an additional glass piece to cover the frames when humidity falls. I even have to change the substrate to a bio-active layer cause humidity can go so high I start to have issues with mold in places where water gets collected after a heavier misting.

    When you make a water bowl like the one in this video how do you clean it? I'm thinking about making a water bowl like this for my boa constrictor so I'm curious how I'd do water changes.

    • @jamestully156

      Never mind I found the answer in another one of your videos. A bowl inside a bowl so the top bowl can be removed. Your videos are great and I like that you are interested in advancing and improving husbandry and increasing enclosure size for your animals. I'm on my own journey to do this as well.
