Douchey is definitely a good word for it. Too many wannabe 'influencers' showing off their butts and six-packs as if that makes them interesting. It's a boring cliche by now really.
We used to go to Canggu about 15 years ago or so. It was a very laid back place, a few villas surrounded by rice fields and a couple of bars at Echo Beach. Last time we were there was 2 years ago. It now is a concrete jungle full of traffic and noise. I would not stay there. Basically, I am so over Bali. I remember how it was and don't like what it has become.
Are you over Canggu or over Bali? I have already witnessed a handful of people saying they are so over Bali - well, guess what? They were basically back in Bali at most 6 months later.
I am well and truly over Bali. Eight trips in 4 years, we always loved it, and loved chilling out with massages, beers on the beach and shopping, going out with a local driver to your the Island. We visited Vietnam in 2019 for 3 months. We will never return to Bali now. Vietnamese are like what the Balinese were 30 years ago. Tourism in Bali has spoilt the Island and the friendly attitude has gone well before Covid hit. It's quite seedy in Bali now, and too many narcacistic social media influencers.
These tips are awesome! Moving back to bali after being away for a few years. Even when I was living in Canggu for a short while, I definitely got that impression
Sounds like a perfect move Adrien to move out of Canggu and onto your next destination ✅ of Kerobokan. Wishing you all the best there. Only 26 more days until we arrive in Jakarta WOOHOO 🥳🥳🥳
I think in the current climate , people doing vlogs about how cheap it is to live there is tasteless . You tubers showing themselves enjoying a good time while Balinese starve is as low as it gets .
Every Great place in the world is being over run by the "mainstream public" it's just a by-product of the internet which will eventually ruin all travel. Travelling pre internet was glorious for real travellers and adventurers, sadly now just a memory.
Every time I moved to Bali for my winter vacation for 5-6 months,I have always lived in Seminyak. I needed to be near the Seminyak/Kuta beach to do my morning jog. If I cannot go jogging I need to swim in a pool with a good length. I had visited Changgu many times but it was not my vibe either. The place I want to live the next time I visit Bali is Loveina, up on the hillside with a pool. Hopefully I will be able to live my dream in the future, whenever they drop the restrictions.
Wow, Adrien, I concur. I'm here now...finally made it over a month ago and I've been in Ubud for 3 weeks and spent 8 days in Ungasan perched on a hill with views of the Sea. Love Ubud, but I'm really an ocean creature. In 2019, I stayed in Ubud and Uluwatu, visited Nusa Dua, Sanur, Jimbaran, Kuta and Seminyak...was not impressed with Kuta or Seminyak. Spending a few days now in Canggu for the 1st time as I have to renew my Visa... However, once that's done, I'm heading to the Sea where it's quiet, filled with locals! You're right, it's Bule-ville...not my thing! So happy for you and your new place!! Yeah!! 🤗🤗
Hi Adrien......would love to know if Tennis courts are easy to find in the different areas in Bali. Are they affordable or on the pricier side? Looking forward to you covering different places in Bali! Thanks!
Hi, Interestingly.... I have been avoiding Canggu due to the same very reasons for last 10 years yet I started going there more often recently for the interior design shops, bouji organic supermarkets and vegan restaurants. Never lived in Canggu though..... Uluwatu is my happy place now. Shame Ubud has been decimated by the virus while still maintaining some of the best vegan places in Bali. Wish you all the best.
I lived in Brawa for 12 years from 2001.My wife is Balinese,we moved to to Oz for kids schooling. When we go back now,it's only up Nth.Last time l was in Canggu to see a friend ,l said I'd never be back.I agree with you.We built 5 houses in Canggu area, the road from Brawa past the then Canggu Club was just opened and the short cut from Brawa to Canggu didn't exist. That crowd there now never integrates with locals, like you said, they could be anywhere.
You do know that there are over 10,000 islands in Indonesia and Bali is just one of it, right? All you need is to learn some simple Bahasa and you can get a much cheaper McMansion anywhere in the country other than in Jakarta (which is also full of business expats, the serious fortune 500 employees kinds)
@@AdrienField nice. Love you channel, something must be wrong with the algorithm because you should have way more followers. See you when I get there 🐕
Bali was nice 30 years ago until they buit the Kuteda. No Canggu or Seminyak of course at this time ! No hipters, digital nomads or expats with the need of a cooker, driver, pool guy, gardener, cleaning lady, nanny, trendy bar and restaurants... I guess I experienced the good time. I left the island 15 years ago, its now became an open air Disney world with the same kind of customers.
Hi Adrian, I just found you and I am enjoying your videos so much. I agree with you on Changgu, I lived in North Kuta for a minute and I much preferred the quieter, more laid back and less touristy flavour.
I love your videos Your presentation Your style And can appreciate how discerning you are. Canggu has become foul. Even as far as crime / theft there. Its a hot spot. Kerobokan has been a little hidden gem for years 👌🌺 I always stay around there. And Amed too 👍 SARONG is stunning for special night out. Its in near to Kerobokan. I cant wait to see your house tour. I love your taste & style 🐒🙏🦎
Truly enjoyed. I haven’t been to Bali yet but I’m not looking for the party places. I am coming with my 9 year old and just looking for family friendly places.
Me in tulum crying rn bc i had no idea it was gonna be so expensive lmao. I'm looking for somewhere else to go esp since there isnt really anything happening here but yet everyone is charging top tier prices.
"....looking for their slice of hedonistic paradise by the beach." That's what happened to areas like Kuta, and the trend may repeat again once people find a 'secret spot' in the island, within years, they would end up the same.
I appreciate you sharing this with the rest of the world. I have lived in South Jakarta for 10 years. 18 years ago, I first visited Bali, it was much more authentic. No McD's.....just local flavor, which that is why I went there. Even 10 years ago, you could still go to Ubud, and, have space and see tourists, but not a flood of people "stealing" the culture. I am shocked there are so many bule still there during the lockdown. I understand why only the Balinese can buy land. I appreciate them trying to save their culture and history. Shame on anyone that takes advantage of the culture in Bali.
Hi Adrien great to see the new video and the move makes total sense, especially after that period of time. Wondering if you could do an update video on visa's and how your able to live in Bali for 2 years? Do you have a Kitas with a PT PMA or representative office? or a social or business visa (these are only valid for 6 months)? I am looking to live in Bali so hence the questions and really appreciate any information you have to share, thank you
@@AdrienField I really appreciate your answer as I am currently looking at ways to live full time in Indonesia, I was thinking first of a social visa and then PT PMA or representative office progressing to a PT PMA, the 250IDR is a steep outlay to start a PT PMA thats why I was considering the others to start. Thank you for your help and have a great day

Canggu started to go South since 2016. Really unfortunate actually. It was a (more relaxed and genuine) blast there until 2015 or so.

Canggu is so toxic lol! Totally agree with how you described it. It's not a place to stay long term if even visit at all!
Hi Adrien, do you find it dangerous Bali in general? The Russian thing put me a bit off. 🙃
I have never experienced anything negative personally but there are many daily stories of petty crime and robbery
Well articulated Adrien, you had my ear for the full post and very easy to listen too!
Totally agree with everything you said, love Canggu but definitely will be moving out soon 💯👌🏼

Since you can speak a little bit Bahasa, why not exploring Indonesia? Try Magelang or Yogya a week or two.

It's called tourism, my dear. The local economy lives and dies by it.
How do you stay in Bali for more than 60 days ?
There are other types of visas available to long stay residents however i don’t feel comfortable giving advice on this subject
