- Here's my 220 Days in the Madworld of Elin. This is a Not So Cozy life sim of the most extreme variety. And I think I really like it. Don't let the anime vibes, and Stardew Valley approach fool you. This is anything but cozy. Yes, there's all the hallmarks of your standard life sim. Like fishing, farming, crafting, building, etc. But the humor is twisted, ideas & concepts twisted, the mechanics esoteric, and the combat...well actually, pretty fun, ngl.
If you're into some twisted spins on the life genre, this is it. Don't say I didn't warn ya'.

I learned about Elin the same day it got put on early access and decided to play the game before it Elona(Specificly Elona+ Custom GX, a fully translated fan made expansion of Elona that is approved by the OG Devs soo much they added some stuff from it to Elin)
And yeah, Elona series is basically just Japanese Dwarf Fortress but somehow more unhinged than Dwarf Fortress

For the escort quests getting some spare bandages or a couple of rods or scrolls of healing spells could help just press "R" or middle click to gift it to the npc. Don't forget to feed your pet as well they go hungry after a time, also the way to level up their stats, and yours. Dodge's raw stat is Perception too btw, I enjoyed your playthough. My first year in the game wasn't as cozy when I started farming without knowledge of anything XD.
Oh, I didn't realize you could also give escort npcs bandages! And thanks for the R for healing tip. I'm still trying to make sense of the keybinds and reassigning them 😅
And dodge is perception based. That's interesting 🤔

you can get an early gun as soon as you start by going to derphy, which is northwest-west of meadow, near the shore, and the gun will be on a "remains" in one of the houses, its a grass pistol, but still an early gun.

I think the material may be random. I gave mine to my little girl and I think it was iron, or wood.
Actually, I think there is two guns. Mine was from remains in someone's house. Could be RNG. I haven't tested it to see if it is there every playthrough.

Firstly love the content and thank you for making it, i look forward to seeing more! Secondly id like to offer some unsolicited but life saving advice. Escort quests can easily be completed by abusing the fast travel system from the overworld by clicking on the map icon, just make sure to check you have the rations and time to complete the trip. Farming quests are easy if you have an ally parasitize on you (the wiki page for this game is your bible in this game) and thirdly if you struggle paying taxes early an easy way is to search random field tiles for the altars that sometimes spawn and if you haul the pillars back to town they sell for hundreds apiece and help you level weightlifting and the tiles dont refresh for a few days if you need to make multiple trips! On my first character his shirt was made out of food and by the time I realized that, it was already rotting. So I had been walking around with rotting food scrapes hanging off me. And the first random question I got in my town was to acquire 10 “shit”. …. I still don’t know where to get “shit” at
Omg same!! In my test playthrough, I got a raw food shirt and didn't realize it until it was too late 😂
As for shit, I think I've ever seen that once lying around my base. But the fact the NPCs request that stuff is so funny. This game has such charm.

Also harvesting cobwebs in Nefia's provides silk, which has a healing trait. This provides decent healing when used to make bandages.
Haha! I'm so confused why they'd give me a chest like that? Later, I saw a video talking about the theves guild and picking up lock picking there. Maybe that's something I'll have to do to finally open that damn chest 😤

In ability tab use host(symbiosis) on your pet and give it a throwing weapon
Congrats now its on your head and same tile as you (it will never die) and while you run it can keep throwing boomerang/use bow (pets have unlimited ammo) - so wallah you dont have to fight enemies you can just run and your pet will slowly kill it also you dont have to worry about your pet dying anymore. If your pet has taunting ability then enemies will first attack your pet most of the time so you will have two health bars(you pet wont die if its health is zero but it will go unconcious for a few turns and start healing). You can purchase taunting book from or get it from nefia shrines rarely
Guns can only be used if the pet has a skill for it tho

Well, they don't really have unlimited ammo, they can still fire after they run out. But they do less damage that way.

@@januariestories It's actually makes sense... guns have a damage and ammo has a damage so when firing with ammo it deals both damage and without ammo it deals only the damage of the gun/bow

Taxes are based on how many years have passed and how much fame you have, property value increases what people pay YOU in taxes when you activate tax collection from your residents. there are different things you can tax your residents for and you have to find books for most of these and the tinker's camp hase a trader that sells books with policies but those are random.

The cats' my preference. As far as I'm aware, choosing the little girl is the strongest companion you can get. If you're on the fence and would like to see that in action, I'd suggest watching "Elin - New Player guide - Day 1," by Rumplenutskin. He covers the games' mechanics well and succinctly.

I feel you, bro. If you ever played Elona, Elina is basically just a better version. It is basically if Elona and Stardew Valley had a kid. Also, the base options seem fairly optional. I've been playing for quite some time and have barely touched the base. Make my money off mining stones, or singing. Bases can be decent passive income by the looks of it though.

I remember ashland mentions after giving you the land deed that he doesnt care if you throw the deed away so maybe if you never redeem it you can completely ignore the base management part of the game and have a nomadic lifestyle? Might be an interesting playthrough.
Yes! He does say that. And things like tents help with a more nomadic lifestyle.
Oh my, i built a house in the "punk place" before the punk quest, didnt find the place "behind the board" and was rather confused to find gallows right at the entrance and have to fight just because i wanted to sleep. Instead random chickens at the edge were enough to finish the quest, but that was also before i entered my home for the random surprise.
That's hilarious. The gallows to teach to fight are so random 😅 But that's the humor of this game. And I kinda like it.

I haven't played Elin yet, so I'm speaking from my Elona experience here. Harvesting is a racket. It's possible to starve or crush yourself if you aren't paying enough attention. And it takes a lot of strength to harvest anything in a timely manner. I've heard you even lose karma for "stealing" crops if you are still carrying them when _the game forcibly teleports you out._
That said, if you exceed the requirements by a lot it can be an easy source of platinums. I think the rewards go up if you harvest a lot more than the minimum?

but yeah, I agree with you that it is a racket. I'm making the second video rn and incorporated some tips like having allies run defense while you harvest. Ultimately, if you can't harvest the large fruits fast enough, then you tend to fail them. I've pivoted to just using those quests to harvest seeds and just rerolling the quest board to hunt monsters. I don't remember if you lose karma for taking stuff with you, though 🤔

Lol the humor in this game is so unreal 😂 As I literally kill things and progress through the game I sometimes stop myself and think "I'm being mauled by puppies, hermit crabs and psychos calling me a pervert."
Just curious. Is it building a base is mandatory? Can we just become a Travelling merchant?
As of right now, yes. So-to-speak.
Every new game starts with you claiming land and building your initial setup. The primary game loops emphasizes building workshops, working on your land to some degree, and paying taxes. There are ways to go around this, like leaving the tile right at the start. You can even buy tents to have a mobile base later. But initial, it's to your benefit to build a base. This may be changed later on. And there's guides and tips out there for folks who are more into making the game a more nomadic lifestyle. However, at game start, it's not promoted as an initial choice.

If your character has negotiation skill then talking to npcs will increase it
if not you will have to learn it from trainer in merchants guild which is next to mysilia
Ahhhh, okay! Now, it's starting to come together for me. That's why you need to buy skills. For whatever reason, I thought they all passively level up. Thank you for that. If that's the case rushing to purchase skills you want saves you plenty of time!

Fancy stuff in your base gives you money not increase tax.
Think of it as a reward from the Home Owner Association.
Tax increases with your amount of fame at 2 coins for every 1 fame I think.

Only 30 days in game and I keep dying. Thankfully, no death penalty for me yet.
It's such a learning curve, haha. The days fly by, so make sure to go wild in that grace period. The penalty is tough early on.
If you find the place you die you can get your coins back.

i recommend you disable exit warning.... then while leaving if escort npc is with you it wont show warning and show warning if he isnt with you
same with some other quests
Hmmm, does that mean without the warning NPCs would leave with you despite being out of sight range? I tend to leave it on because I have a bad habit of accidently leaving 🙃
@@januariestories no no but you wouldn't accidently leave without them... i got into habit of having the warning and then sometimes if npcs are a lil father it will show the warning and i will exit and lose the quest!! I think in an update the distance of how far they can be was increased too so its 4 blocks right now i believe

crafting isnt fully fleshed out and hence you will see items made from weird shit? i wholeheartedly believe this was intended and i hope it stays in the game. On another note material converting hammers exist so it will still be possible to change materials and conveting material does change some properties of it
Me too!! I know it's kinda a quirk but I find it super charming!! Plus, I think it can go without saying material you'd want over the other. For example, you wouldn't want a grass rifle. But it's fun to think you can make it from grass 😂
How do you actually see the dmg numbers you do and see those little spell icons on scrolls?
It's in settings, perhaps in the experimental settings? I can't remember 😅
elin is pronounced like ee-llhin(kind of like how you would say chin but with with e and l in front) //a nordic person, the name elin is fairly common here
my only issue is the portrait dont match the age or gender sometimes i wish you can disable portrait of npc untill they fix it

So it¨s like ADOM but anime and stardew valley and uh... tailchasing?.... Looks great. Kinda reminds me of those fire beetles those hermit crabs. Not something you would want to fight with 7 strength as a archer.

You mentioned escort quests being shiet and there was only one game that did it right; Silkroad online had the greatest trading and escort to ever happen in my gaming history with Star Citizen becoming a close second

@@januariestories So Silkroad was an mmo from years ago that was heavily based on, you guessed it, the silk road. It was a trading route in the east and the game focused on this by having you able to buy goods and march from town to town selling them. The 3 jobs (like lifestyle jobs) were trader, hunter, and thief. Thief players attacked the traders and hunters attacked the thief's. It was like the pinnacle of my mmo experiences but also being my first mmo had a large influence haha

I understand your sentiment. I used to do more uninterrupted LP series. However, I'm turning away from that for now. For this video in particular, I recorded over 10 hours of gameplay.
Typically, if I were to spread that over multiple episodes, I've seen a decline in viewership and reach. My plan for this video was to make sure to include all the important bits while being mindful of pacing. I like to watch LP series' that can show a good amount of gameplay for context while doing its best to get to the point.
Unfortunately, my editing ability is poor, so I may not always do the best job at that. However, I'd like to think I'm improving. Apologies if the video is more difficult to follow because that.

Crafting is pretty well developed, there are only a few stations like Alchemy that are not yet fully implemented. Being able to make guns and armor out of grass or any other material you can conceive is definitely a feature, not a bug :)
Haha, yes! I also think it's a fun quirk in the game. I think I've been seeing in discord/steam discussions that crafting is still up for major rework. Perhaps the info I'm reading is dated.
