Rules from what I have observed: (Note: Some details are personal fillers as we don’t see everything.) Set up: Each player will choose 1 class, and will place it on either the red or blu side of the board depending on which team they are on. The middle ground is to be left untouched until the game begins. Game: Turns are split into multiple phases, move, attack, and build. During the move phase, both players can choose to move their own units, if they decide they want to move a unit, that unit depending on class can move up to a maximum amount of tiles of which is specified by their speed stat on the class card. During the attack phase, if two opposing units or more are within range of each other, both players role 2 dice, the player with the highest role will attack. The attack will deal damage based on the class card, that then reduces the opponent class, so for example, let’s say Demo deals 10 damage, and sniper has 12 hp, sniper is left with 2 hp. (Smaller numbers so it’s easier to keep track of in an actual game.) Each unit’s range is displayed on their card via a gray grid pattern with yellow squares representing the range. If a unit has a longer range and looses, the shorter range unit will have the choice to move, and if it moves close enough to attack, it will. For example, Sniper has a very large range, but Pyro is short ranged, if Pyro wins the role, and is able to move close enough, Pyro can damage Sniper. After the first part of the attack phase, the looser if still alive will role a single die, and if the die is a 4, 5, or 6, the looser will draw a card. If the role is any other number, and no other unit is available, the attack phase will end. The card will be drawn from the rebound deck of the specified class, with effects such as a heal, an attack, a free move, or any other ability that class is capable of. For example, Sniper lost the fight with Demo, but since he survives with 2 hp, player red roles a die, he roles a 5, so he gets to draw a card. Player red draws the headshot card, and chooses Demo, as he is the only available target. Headshot allows sniper to do 3 times usual damage, meaning he does 15 damage. (Yes, Demo should survive that since he would have 17 hp, but screw logic.) In an actual game scenario, Demo survives but is very vulnerable, which may force a retreat on the Demo. Sniper is now unable to move next time the move phase begins, and cannot attack enemies behind him (towards the red side of the board.) This is the end of the attack phase. Now begins the build phase, the winner of the attack phase will place two units, while the looser only places one. Then the winner will draw a card for each of those two units. For example, engineer gets a card that lets him add a sentry unit to the board. The build phase is now over, and it’s back to the move phase. (Challenge: Try to identify the exact time stamps of when each phase begins, and then when the move phase begins the second time.) End goals: Both players choose a game mode to play, then role 2 dice, the highest role decides the game mode. There is three game modes, Death Match, King of the Hill, and Capture the Flag. (In the video we see maybe death match, but it could be KoTH.) DM: Classes don’t respawn, last player with a living unit wins. (Traditionally a unit respawns 3 turns after death, but in DM death is permanent.) KoTH: If a unit stands on the middle middle point of the map and there is no opposing unit, it captures it, Captures occur during the start and end of the attack phase. First player to own the point for a total of 10 turns wins. CTF: There is now an intel piece on each players side, set up sees each player placing the intel piece where they wish for it to be located. A chip can be used to remember this spot if needed. If an opposing unit is vertical or horizontal of the intel and is directly next to it, that unit will indefinitely barrow the intelligence, and it is now that unit’s job to bring it back to their intel to score. If the unit carrying the intel is killed, the intel is dropped and will return to its initial location after 3 turns. During this dropped period, it can be picked up by another opposing unit, and if dropped again the turns timer is reset to 3. First to 3 scores wins. I believe these are accurate to what we see in the animation for the most part, with some slight adjustments and filler to make it work as an actual game. Let me know if something seems inaccurate and how you feel about these rules.
I have a big feeling this was heavily inspired by the Age of Empires 2 intro, which is honestly such a GREAT reference, everything about this animation resonates with a creative aura, I love this!
